When does H1B visa 2020 Season start ? What is the start date ?
Update : USCIS announced on March 19th that they will accept H1B 2020 petitions starting from April 1st.
Based on past history, it would be Monday, April 1st, 2019. The rationale is that, USCIS starts accepting applications for the next fiscal year exactly 6 months before the start of the next fiscal year. USCIS fiscal year for 2020 year starts from 1st October 2019, which means they would accept applications for FY 2020 from April 1st, 2019. This will change for the next H1B FY 2021 Season as USCIS has published New H1B Registration Rule, where employers will register much ahead of the April 1st date and go through process to be able to file petitions on April 1st.
What is H1B visa 2020 Quota for Regular and Masters filings ?
H1B quota is listed below. There are no changes to the cap count, USCIS confirmed that in their press release in March 2018. Below are the numbers. For first timers, this quota is also called the H1B Visa Cap. You can read more at What is H1B Cap ? Regular vs Masters quota ?
- H1B Regular Quota : 65,000 visas
- H1B Master’s Quota : 20,000 visas. ( only US Masters eligible)
Also, of the overall 85,000 visa cap, every year 6,800 visas are set aside for the citizens of Singapore and Chile as part of the Free Trade Agreement with them. There were few bills part of Comprehensive Immigration Reform that are not active in Senate that were proposed from Obama administration days to change the cap count to 110,000 and Masters to 25,000, including potential to make H1B cap extend up to 180,000. But nothing has moved and all are dormant. Nothing new has been proposed by the new Trump Administration regarding changing cap count. To get a glimpse of historical cap count changes, you may check H1B visa cap count history from 1990 to 2017
H1B Lottery Predictions for FY 2020 ?
Update : USCIS announced on April 5th that they received enough petitions for Regular cap quota and there would be lottery.
We had H1B lottery for the last 6 consecutive years starting H1B FY 2014. Looking at historical trend of H1B filings, cap reach dates, it is very likely possible that we would have lottery for FY 2020 quota. We have written a detail article on this topic, read H1B Visa 2020 Lottery Predictions, Dates, Results, Analysis.
H1B Visa 2020 Lottery Date ? Results ?
If we look at the H1B lottery, we have three things, one is when the H1B petitions are accepted for the lottery, second is when the actual lottery is done and third is when the H1B lottery results for everyone are out.
- Applications Accepted for H1B Lottery : H1B visa petitions for next fiscal year would be accepted by USCIS from Monday April 1st, 2018 for 5 working days until April 5th, 2018 to be part of the H1B Visa lottery.
- H1B Visa Lottery conducted date : The actual lottery date depends on various factors depending the volume of petitions and USCIS load. It can be anywhere in second week of April. For FY 2019, H1B lottery was conducted on April 11th. Similarly, for FY 2018, the actual H1B Lottery was done on April 11th, 2017 . We can expect anywhere around the same dates like April 11th or April 13th.
- H1B 2020 Lottery Results for Everyone : This is probably the most asked question as many applicants wait in state of uncertainty. USCIS, only informs about actual results for everyone after they completed sending our receipts for accepted petitions. So, technically, you may need to wait for a long time to get the actual results, depending on if you were selected in lottery or not. For FY 2019, USCIS sent our all rejected applications on July 30th, with a timeline given until August 13th. So, you can hear your lottery results anywhere from April second week to August 13th..that’s a long waiting window !
- Update : USCIS released a press note confirming that that returned all H1B petitions that were not picked in lottery and you should get a mail by Aug 29, 2019. So, your final date for lottery result date for FY 2020 is Aug 29, 2019.
How to find H1B visa 2020 Sponsors ?
It can be very hard to find a good employer and convince them to sponsor H1B to work in US with major unknown like H1B Visa lottery. Depending on your situation, you would be in one of the three scenarios, if you are seeking a H1B Sponsor.
- F1 Student in US : You can find an internship or co-op at an employer who can sponsor H1B visa and ask them to sponsor your H1B. You can continue to work on OPT once you graduate as well. You find the list of H1B Sponsoring companies using the tool or H1B Grader – Sponsors Database
- International Professionals : If you are outside of US, it can be tricky with all the latest rules by Trump administration. Your best bet is to find an multi-national company ( MNC) and work through them to sponsor H1B visa. You may have hurdles inside the company with all the internal process, many waiting, etc. But, it is up to you to negotiate and ask them to take a chance. Many try the IT body shop route, where they ask them to file H1B. Rules have changed in the last few years and it is very risky move and can jeopardize your US hopes. Read comments on this H1B Companies Reviews article to get an idea and beware of such consulting companies to avoid fraud.
- Important Note : We, as RedBu2US, DO NOT Provide any H1B sponsorship or guide anyone using professional services or fee. If anyone approaches you by saying our name, it is pure FRAUD…beware !

What is H1B 2020 Filing Fee ?

As of FY 2019 season, it can range anywhere from $1,600 USD to $7,400 USD + Attorney Fee. In year 2016, for FY 2018, the H1B base filing fees, increased from $325 to $460. What is New H1B Registration Rule ?
USCIS and DHS went through 9 Steps of Federal rule making process to change the H1B lottery process and published the final rule on Jan 31st, 2019. In the new registration rule, employers register their potential H1B hires during the H1B registration window in the USCIS registration system. USCIS will conduct lottery on the registrations and inform the selected registrants to file H1B petition on April 1st. In the new process, the order of H1B lottery is changed to select Regular cap quota petitions first and then Masters quota petitions. For more info, read Summary of New H1B Registration Rule
Will the New H1B Registration Rule be applicable for FY 2020 Season ?
Not fully. USCIS is suspending H1B Registration Rule for H1B FY 2020 cap season to design, implement and complete user testing of system and make sure the system is ready. USCIS will formally announce this suspension for FY 2020 on their website. So, for the upcoming H1B Visa FY 2020 season , the current process of accepting H1B Petitions for 5 business days and then conducting lottery from the received petitions will be followed. But, one change to the current process will be done, which is the order of the H1B lottery will be changed, where first regular quota petitions are selected in lottery to fulfil 65,000 petitions cap from entire pool of applications and then master quota petitions are selected in lottery order to fulfil the masters quota cap of 20,000. H1B 2020 Processing Timelines – Regular vs Premium ?

The timeline for receiving receipts is different for regular vs premium processing. We have put together all the details in a detail article addressing all of these questions. Kumar: I have few questions:
1) Got picked up,…I am AD PP, If everything goes well, and I receive my case approved post May 20th. Can I travel to India once case approved? Or by when I can travel to India?
2) Also, my wife and kid are currently on F2 (not applied for H4 yet) but they are staying in India, What happens to their status?
3) Considering my status being changed, When can they travel to US? Do they have to get H4 stamped before traveling? By when can they get H4 stamped.
Thank you for your time.
Best,
AC
Hey, did you apply at Vermont or California? Was this your first chance? I also applied AD PP, haven’t heard anything yet.
1. Once case is approved, you can travel to India.
2. F2 will no longer be valid once your status changes to H1.
3. They need to go for H4 stamping. Once your petition is approved, they can go for stamping. Consulate will ask for a copy of your I797A/B.
Hi Admin/Friends,
If any applicant has filed more than one application by different employer and picked all then it will count one towards 85K H1B quota or more than one. Any idea?
anyone get any updates today?
It seems quiet here today.
I think all the PP lottery picked applications received receipts, i didn’t hear anything from my attorney, makes me believe my chances are dead 🙁
Same here. 🙁
No, you have till May 20th before you make that assumption.
Just received confirmation from attorney that she got email acknowledgement for H1 receipt.
OPT STEM Ext expires on June 20th – “NO UPDATE IN SEVIS PORTAL ”
3rd Attempt – AD/PP
Anyone who has Fragomen as lawyer heard back from them?
No
Dont think Fragomen applied for PP for any of their clients
They did premium to at least few
Some of my peers received receipt from fragomen
Fragomen doesn’t apply PP. Corps request to file for PP.
Also, my company did file for PP via. Fragomen.
I’m with Fragomen. Applied under regular quota but haven’t received any info yet.
I got email confirmation from Fragomen saying they got email receipt from USCIS. AD PP.
When was it? And is there a significant delay in time they get it and you get the update
This is 4th time for me.. Regular.. Mine was not picked in the lottery still.. Let’s see the luck this time..
I still haven’t heard anything from my employer yet. AD/PP
I know there’s usually a delay in receiving the receipt notice but the fact that my check is not cashed yet makes me believe my chances are dead.
Am I correct in assuming so?
I am on the same boat. You’re probably right.
I think its a safe assumption now, I’m assuming that for myself.
The safe assumption would be to wait until May 20th, after that yea you’re assumption is correct.
My lawyer told me to wait till May and to not make any assumption now
4/19/19 UPDATE: Email notifications have slowed down for Premium Processing (PP) Advanced Degree (AD) petitions filed at both service centers. This does NOT mean that it is 100% over for AD petitions filed in premium processing, but based on how many we know have been selected so far, I think we may be getting close to the end for this case type. Also, late yesterday we received or first email notifications for Non-AD Premium Processing from the California Service Center.
OMG!! is this official update?
Even I am waiting for this. Guess now all AD/PP is going on..
Guys! I received an update form my attorney that my H1B got picked! (AD/PP/VT) – Got email from them yesterday late evening around 10pm.

Oh, I do not have any info on my lottery status or anything, just being hopeful
Got Receipt notice for H1B being picked in the lottery – 3rd time AD Premium Process California Center
No SEVP update but I’m guessing that’s because my OPT ends on October 2nd 2019
Good Luck to the others 🙂
Cheers !
Yes Nick. You are not in cap gap, so you may not update in SEVP.
Guys, Have hope and everything will be good. cheers
Got news that my h1b got picked.. PP and Masters California.
Best of luck to all..
Cheers !
Has anyone of you got news for regular CAP? I always see updates for Masters.
I have seen couple of people update in tracker that they got Regular Cap with Premium got receipts.
AD/VT/PP: We have received email notification and/or I-797 receipt notices in 42% of our cases in this category
AD/CA/PP: We have received email notification in 46% of our cases
AD/VT: We have received I-797 receipt notices in 0% of our cases
AD/CA: We have received I-797 receipt notices in 0% of our cases

Those were the numbers from a law firm last updated on 4/16/2019

Much more good things are writing for you.

Well said 🙂
@Life beoyend H1B: Thank you for the motivation! It helped to be positive and yay..today I received that my case was picked up…
@Kumar: I have few questions:

AD with PP.
Receipt notice was sent on April 11.
Cannot check SEVP because of losing access to the associated email (was school email and deactivated).
Good luck to all.
Don’t be so anxious mate, relax.
Have receipts for all PP cases been issued? If I did not get a receipt yet, does that mean that the case was not picked?
You have at least until May 20th for Premium Processing cases, before you can look for alternatives.
Hi,
When will get to know about regular cap lottery as i am hearing about AD results and Premium ones. Did any one in regular got their H1 picked?
Well, they can come anytime from now until early to mid June…usually, USCIS tries to process all the premium processing receipts as they have deadline of May 20th. So far, I have not seen any regular quota applicants without premium getting receipts yet.
Thanks !! but they filed PP this time so fingers cross..
Any AD non-PP getting receipts or checks cashed? Please share updates!
Hi All,
Just got an email from my attorneys that my H-1 got picked and will be updating me in 15 days. I checked my SEVIS portal and it’s not updated yet!
All the best guys!
The 15 days will not start until May 20th
It takes few days sometimes. If it does not get updated in a week or so, then you take the email and send it to your DSO and request to do Dat Fix to extend the Status in SEVIS.
Did anyone here who got their receipt email have Fragomen as their attorneys? Was just curious if they had notified anyone yet
Same here.
I emailed them to ask about that but they didn’t reply as usual :@
Neither for me. And mine was PP.
Yes I got Email From Fragomen Attorney saying the lottery Is picked and end of May I will be getting receipt(Paper Copy).
Did you apply in PP and AD?Guyhasnoname
Yes AD and Premium. Got confirmation on April 11.
Regular petitions also started?
Do people with regular filing have started getting selection receipts?
When will the SEVP get updated if my OPT ext is going to end in JUNE, should it be updated by now or will it be updated when receipt is generated
No one knows. Contact your attorney for right information
Usually, almost all of the data entry will be done (based on previous years USCIS announcement) before June. For you, if your case is picked in the lottery (assuming you are not used PP) then you should see the SEVP update prior to your end date. Based on that you may request for new i-20 from your school and the new i-20 basically states (indirectly) that your case is picked in lottery and your OPT end date is extended to till September 30th. You can submit this to your current company to continue the payroll.
Assuming if it is not picked (I hope not) in the lottery then up course there will be no update in SEVP even after USCIS announcement that they done with the entry. That implies your last date is indeed your OPT end date (June xx). Now, after that date you will get 60 days to figure out other options like (a) to leave the country or (b) go for other masters/PhD etc because your current F1 will no longer be valid.
Good luck and all the best for your case to be picked and get approved.
Just got email from Immigration team that my H1B petition got picked up!!! Thank you very much guys
Congrats, Is it on Premium Processing?
Also, Did you see any changes on your SEVP portal. Would really appreciate any updates on this, as would be helpful for people like me (Waiting)
Yes it’s on Premium processing. And I don’t see any changes on SEVP portal. ALL THE BEST GUYS!!!
Hi guys, just wonder if we can still add premium processing now for regular H1B application? My OPT ends in June…
No, you cannot now. You need to wait for next USCIS guidance. Read Press Release Summary when they announced FY 2020
Hi all i am working in one of the top three companiesas SDE and I have applied this year and its my third and final time. My application will come under Masters’s and not PP (No premium processing) is anyone here got receipt notice for non PP with masters or regular? My sevis portal is not updated as well.
When will be non PP start to get receipt notice any idea? Or have it started already? Any input will be good.
And I am an FTE in FAANG(FB,Amazon,Apple,Netflix & Google). fortunately I have an office and team to join in India..so please guys..hold on for hope…its not over yet as its stil not started
Its final time for me as well… Did you apply in PP?
Nope..My company told they will upgrade to premium once its picked.
5th time here AD trying since 2015. its too early to lose hopes..since the receipts are not electronic they may take some time to reach your attorney..If anyone has to lose hope early its me as I am leaving US if not selected in lottery so..keep fingers crossed and wait till 2-3rd week of may. who knows..might be positive
Yes, stay positive, still long way to go !
Does anyone or KUMAR know how many actual REGULAR and AD in 201k ???? Just wanted to know the % of regular getting selected ?????
No one knows. Not even Kumar
USCIS has not given the split of the petitions yet for this year. Usually they update on their page, but this year, it is not updated yet.
No changes on my SEVP portal… third time unlucky person 🙁
Too early to decide, it will take time. Please don’t lose hope until you get a rejected package back.
Hi Kumar
Thanks for Moral support.. My petition got selected in Lottery, Jst now i got email from employer, I can use this receipt number : WAC198******* to track application.
Thanks
Yes, Good luck !
Does USCIS inform employer as well for PP? or only lawyer?
The one who has filed the actual petition, sometimes, it is employer’s direct legal team, sometimes they work with attorney. If attorney files on behalf on the firm, they only get the email and employer will not.
MY Lawyer sent confirmation that my H1b 202 application is picked! 3rd attempt, AD Cap, PP and Cali center.
2020*
Bro Congrats!!!!
Congrats bro!!!!
Congratulations! Did your SEVP portal updated with extended date?
I dono how to check my SEVIS status. Is there anyway to check it? other than calling Uni.
yes, some changes would happen on SEVP and SEVIS, read SEVP, SEVIS Changes for H1B lottery Selected petitions
Wait!!! Sevp potal updates only if you have opt ending before sept 30? Or does it changes for everyone?
I m on stem opt and its ending next year.
It is only applicable for someone in OPT or STEM OPT and in cap gap.
Congratulations!

is there a new link available, the link you shared probably is expired?
A lucky guy in slack
“himanshu [9:46 AM]: My lawyer got email that my petition is selected..” filed in PP
Where can you see status update on SEVIP? Is it under history?
Check SEVP Updates, H1B Lottery
Does any AD ppl applied along with PP this year? also is it a gud option for multiple applications this time?
https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/uscis-completes-h-1b-cap-random-selection-process-fy-2020-and-reaches-advanced-degree-exemption-cap
Waiting for sevp portal update.
Looks 201K this year
And, finally we got the confirmation from USCIS:
“USCIS Completes the H-1B Cap Random Selection Process for FY 2020 and Reaches the Advanced Degree Exemption Cap” @ https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/uscis-completes-h-1b-cap-random-selection-process-fy-2020-and-reaches-advanced-degree-exemption-cap
So,now wait and watch.
Great! Now the big question is when can we start expecting updates on the SEVP Portal? 🙂
So it is sevp portal which is updated if selected in lottery?
https://sevp.ice.gov/opt/#/login
I believe so. Not really sure when they happen.
I read a comment saying they happen in a day or two. But again, not entirely sure about that.
Where do you see the status update on this portal?
Do we get a refund for STEM OPT application if during that process H-1B is picked in the lottery? Or $410 goes down the drain?
No!!!
Do you want to ruin your life if H1 is denied or you want to continue to work for another couple of years!!!
that’s the best answer why you need to apply !!
LOL Bro I never asked if I should apply or not. Of course, I need to apply for the extension. My question was whether USCIS refunds the fee for STEM Extension while it is in the process if H-1B gets picked.
Uscis never returns any fees paid to them, excluding h1 not picked in lottery!!!
you are not paying for your OPT benefit. You are paying for you application to be reviewed , and approved or denied by USCIS. It is not like you cancelled a membership earlier and are asking for a refund…
Well said. But, we are paying a membership to stay in the US. Prime Membership!
H1 is a immigration intent application and STEM OPT is your part of F1, so it comes under non-immigration intent. Meaning, USCIS handles both petition different and you are requesting them to consider both the options. So, refund is not available because both are different.
Anyone have any ideas if the lottery happened yet?
I believe the lottery would have happened yesterday, we should be hearing the news hopefully tomorrow, we would be knowing results hopefully from today or by tomorrow at the most, I think we should start chasing the employers to see if the checks have got cleared. tht’s the first sign of lottery got picked.
Hi friends,
Any thought why they USCIS do not announce the picked applications online on the same day when the lottery is done? what is the reason behind they send batch by batch?
What do you mean by batch by batch? Have people been notified about results?
Regular lottery might be happening today(April 10). This announcement happened in past two years on lottery day and possibly to enter the batch data.
https://www.uscis.gov/news/alerts/tools-outage
Interesting correlation…Let’s see…
Can you please elaborate? Where do you look for the update? Is it under current employer? Does it extend your STEM OPT?
Is anybody sees update on their SEVP portal for CAP gap Extension?
I think we should wait until lottery is completed
This is too early to see sevis updates.. you can see them before you receive the receipt but that does not mean the receipt is not generated..
What you see on the sevis is the receipt generated and mailed to you that you have not received yet
No My sevis not updated yet. But may be anyone else so we can get an idea about lottery.
Hello Guys,
(Assuming H1B is picked) Could someone clarify when would the SEVP portal change in case the end date is ending this June?
TIA
same day or the following day.
Oh really
What is going to change in SEVP portal?
i don’t see any change.
is that means i did not get selected?
