When does H1B Visa 2018 Season Start ?
Update : USCIS accepted H1B Petitions for FY 2018 starting from April 3rd, 2017 until April 7th. They updated that H1B Cap was reached on April 7th, 2017.
Typically, USCIS accepts H1B petitions for next fiscal year starting from April 1st. So, for FY 2018, the start date for accepting applications would be April 1st, 2017. But, for FY 2018 season, April 1st falls on a Saturday, so USCIS will accept applications starting from Monday, April 3rd, 2017. If you were wondering why called 2018, when in 2017, it is the fiscal year dates that dictate that. USCIS fiscal year is from October 1st to March 30th. So, technically the fiscal year for 2018 starts from October 1st and they accept petitions for the same 6 months before the start date and it would be April 1st, 2017. What is H1B 2018 Quota ? Regular Cap vs Master’s Cap Quota ?

To get some background, read H1B Quota – Regular vs Masters . There have been many speculations on increasing the H1B Cap due to extremely high demand and bills proposed for the same in the past, nothing made it through. As of writing of this article, below is the H1B cap quota. We will keep this article updated as new changes come in. The total H1B Quota as of today is 85,000 and it is split like below.

When to plan for H1B 2018 Application – What should be your strategy ?
It is never too late to start planning…Depending on your situation, you may fall in one of the below categories and the suggestions are described below.
- F1 Student in USA : If you are studying on F1 visa and about to graduate in next one year, you should seriously look at finding an internship or co-op at companies that can sponsor your H1B visa. You can search for H1B Sponsors in a particular area using our H1B Sponsors Search Tool and try to get an internship to work there on CPT or OPT after you graduate. This is a strategic move and will require sometime, so plan well.
- Working Professional from outside USA : If you are a working professional outside US, planning to work in US, especially on H1B visa, your best bet is to find Multinational companies ( MNCs) that have major US presence and secure a job there, so that you can position internally for applying to H1B visa, when the season starts. This is a very strategic decision, you need to carefully assess your options, speak to the company if such options exist and then only choose it. There may be many people already in-line for these visas, you need to plan carefully so that you are given a slot in the company’s filing for your next season application.
- Other H4, L1 Visas : If you are on these visas living in USA, your best bet is to find companies just like I mentioned for F1 students that sponsor H1B visas and start interviewing and keeping the conversation going so that you can ask them to file H1B when the season starts.

How to find H1B Visa Sponsor for FY 2018 quota ?
This is probably the most asked question by everyone. It can be a tricky decision, you need be very careful to avoid fraud.
- If you are student in the US, it is very straight forward, you find the list of H1B Sponsoring companies using the tool in an area as I mentioned above and get an internship in one of them so that they can sponsor your H1B visa.
- If you are professional planning to arrive in US from outside America, it can be really tricky. If you work for an Multinational company ( MNC), then they will have some internal process to pick the candidates and then process H1B visa for them…The other option that has been used and abused is the consulting companies route…Many a times, the H1B aspirants approach a body shop IT consulting company to file H1B for them and they apply for the same. It gets nasty with the body shop consulting companies. The comments on this H1B Companies Reviews article are quite eye opening. I advise, you beware of the consulting companies and avoid fraud.

What is H1B Visa 2018 Fee ? How much does it cost for the company ?
The H1B fee varies by the size of the company..As of FY 2017 season, it can range anywhere from $1,600 USD to $7,400 USD + Attorney Fee. On December 23, 2016 , USCIS increased the H1B fee component of base filing fees, which was $325. The below table is updated with the latest fee updates from USCIS. H1B 2018 Lottery Results – Checks Cashed, Receipts :
One of the most asked questions is when will I get to know the lottery result for my petition. Well, this depends on many factors and there is no set SLA or date. To put things in perspective, last year, USCIS did a news alert indicating that they have returned all the rejected H1B petitions on July 8th, 2017. So, you can expect the last date for receiving final lottery decision around mid July 2017. …As we had about same number of petitions filed for FY 2018, it may be slightly earlier or even later in July or even early August 2017… Few of the ways you would know, if you are selected in lottery is that, if the check that was filed with your H1B petition was cashed, or your employer gets the actual physical receipt notice in mail to them. If you filed under US masters quota, SEVIS update is another indication that you were selected in H1B lottery for FY 2018. Ideally, your receipt numbers should arrive within 1 to 2 months…but, you never know, until you get a reject notice to be sure !

New President Trump Administration Impact on H1B Visa 2018 Quota?
We do not know, if this news release is directed by Trump administration or not…but, on April 3rd, 2017 the start date of H1B season, there were set of new announcements made by USCIS to report and prevent abuse of H1B program. The amount of fees varies from company to company. The fees structure can be seen in the article above this comment section. So depending on the size of company it can vary from 1600$ to 7400$ ( mentioning only USCIS fees) if the correct fees amount had been provided, your application would have got rejected already. I hope not. My employer sucks at providing timely information. My source is USCIS case status website.
I did hear some one tell the same. The USCIS portal got updated a week later but the approval notice arrived earlier. I am not sure of the person though.
I believe the people who handle the USCIS web portal are not the actual USCIS officers. So there could easily be a disconnect between the two. The portal will be updated sometime eventually (or not). Don’t worry. Congrats on your approval. Enjoy!!!

Hi Tia, when the unselected petitions of lottery are returned they come with a rejection notice stating the reason as not selected in lottery. After a petition is selected in lottery, the USCIS takes a decision on the application and if it rejects it, then too a rejection notice with appropriate reason is sent. So far, I have not heard of direct rejection. They mostly issue an RFE first.

L1A is for Project Manager Role..we can file in two categories Blanket or Individual. Blanket 99% Rejection happen..Individual is a bit costlier but you will get it for sure.
For filing L1A the organization should consist of atleast 50 members at onsite and from them you need to prove 4 members will report to you

I did see couple of Approvals for FY2018. If your company name or any info is wrong in receipt notice kindly contact your employer/Attorney. They will take steps to correct it.

Friday has just started in the US.
I was speaking to my team lead about the delay and he told me that its a common practice of TCS to hold the results and they only release it by july or august so that the employees dont leave the company. So tcsers dont lose hope… When the game is over for everybody, ours would begin.. Lol
So when everybody is debating about whether its over or not I have an interesting question for all, So my departments cost analyst and finance person showed me today that there are certain charges from DHS that hit our cost center. And they are exactly $2460 and pertain to me. But the only issue is that the date shown is 03/06 and 03/07, which doesnt make sense as the lottery was done on 04/11. Guys please help me understand as my attorney confirmed that the money is directly paid by my company and they have to do anything with it.
My understanding is that they were taken out early while application but will be refunded somehow if my application is not picked up. SUPER CONFUSED! Help! Thanks.
Is it possible that you are somehow exempt from the cap? Are you employed by a government research facility or non-profit university?
I know for sure that I am not Cap-Exempt as I am neither of the above.
Forget about lottery, the new application for H1B has been accepted this year only from 04/03. The only option is that it being cap – exempt, as the other person suggested.
If you have you Fedex tracking ID of your package then you can be sure that your package reached only by April 3rd. If so how can they encash the check in march?
So basically I spoke with attorney and they confirmed that they sent the package on the 31st March so that it can be received on 3rd April. Thats exactly why it doesnt make sense. The only sense I could make out of it is that the charges are not for me, but after a lot of back and forth it was traced back to me with the same exact amount as someone from my company who got picked up.
Ya may be some error in the financial tracking. Did you get any update regarding your petition from your Attorney?
Attorney filling fees varies from 1000$ -2000$, and Labor certificate charge wont be refunded , but application fees is going to come back if application is not picked.
I agree with you but based on the category what my employer falls under we are suppose to pay $2460 in total and I double check it on the receipt of my friend who got the receipt.

Irrespective of whether you got through lottery or not or its US or some other county, every one need to understand that these kind of visa facilities are available only to get our work assignment done and return back 🙂 .. But we have changed the entire process all together. Soon all doors will be closed. Please dont have too much of expectation and take everything easy and move on. If there is dream to visit foreign countries then apply for travel visa n have fun… its just easy to get those 😉

I did get call from Azket regarding the application got picked up in lottery.
Now I am not able to contact anyone from Azket. Is there any working Contact number that anybody can share?

I already did complaint to USCIS and DOL regarding their practices. They are doing investigation with their past H1B application for in house project.
If UCSIS can be handle 199000 petitions in less than 15-20 days and other IT giant already completed sending notifications but TCS applied roughly applied 7500 petitions still waiting for UCSIS results but FDFU will send reports to BRM,GRM and GL but not to associates. There should be a master plan for delaying

I dont understand what keeps FDFU team to hide the results from the associate whatever it will be either Yes or No. Visa team applied for the LCA on behalf of the associate and thereby they should have the authority to know about the results.
God Knows what kind of plan they plot and hiding the details from the associate.

I was on L1 for 5 years in US and got picked in H1 2014. That added only 1 year to my stay as total L+H can only be 6 years of max and one has to file GC to stay after that. If you spent 4 years already till OCT-17, you would get only 2 years on H1. Change your job immidiately if you want…or else no one would hire your in last year …. Good luck.

My employer do not share any info. It is all with Fragomen who are on the slower side.

I am from IBM. 3rd attempt, yet to get my receipt.
The status in “INSZoom” is “Pending Adjudication”, without the receipt number, but with the “Receipt date” & the “Approval date” updated. Really not sure, what that means ?
Could anyone of the IBMers or someone who understands what this “Status” means ?

my company has filed 23 petitions, all computer programmers with wage level 1. company received 12 receipts, and already 8 of them on RFE, and 2 denials 🙁 cannot believe in that, but this is true ;-(

Got receipt as well as approval notice.
Receipt date 11th apr and I-797B approval date 2nd May. Received the actual hard copy of receipt via post on 9th May.
What is the issue date for your I-129 notice?

Applied for h1(AD) for first time . Unfortunately, i have no update yet from my DSO as well as employer. My OPT is expiring soon (in 2 weeks) so got admission to an university. So, my question to you all is what will be the situation if I get selected later? or is there any more HOPE? My OPT for rest 2 weeks is going to be cancelled as i am getting new I20 for admission , will SEVIS be updated F1 to H1b if i get selected in H1 ?
I am in the same situation, and I am curious too …
If you transfer to a new school then your OPT will end on the day you transfer out. If you fortunately (I Wish) get selected then your SEVIS will show H1B Receipt number and says status pending but as you already got transferred you have to continue your new masters until October 1st or your visa gets approved which ever comes later because you are not eligible for CAP GAP as you are no more on OPT.

Hi Ravi, it is a common practice for USCIS to transfer cases between their offices for even distribution of work. So yours is one such case that got transferred to a different office. You need not worry.
