When does H1B Visa 2018 Season Start ?
Update : USCIS accepted H1B Petitions for FY 2018 starting from April 3rd, 2017 until April 7th. They updated that H1B Cap was reached on April 7th, 2017.
Typically, USCIS accepts H1B petitions for next fiscal year starting from April 1st. So, for FY 2018, the start date for accepting applications would be April 1st, 2017. But, for FY 2018 season, April 1st falls on a Saturday, so USCIS will accept applications starting from Monday, April 3rd, 2017. If you were wondering why called 2018, when in 2017, it is the fiscal year dates that dictate that. USCIS fiscal year is from October 1st to March 30th. So, technically the fiscal year for 2018 starts from October 1st and they accept petitions for the same 6 months before the start date and it would be April 1st, 2017. What is H1B 2018 Quota ? Regular Cap vs Master’s Cap Quota ?

To get some background, read H1B Quota – Regular vs Masters . There have been many speculations on increasing the H1B Cap due to extremely high demand and bills proposed for the same in the past, nothing made it through. As of writing of this article, below is the H1B cap quota. We will keep this article updated as new changes come in. The total H1B Quota as of today is 85,000 and it is split like below.

When to plan for H1B 2018 Application – What should be your strategy ?
It is never too late to start planning…Depending on your situation, you may fall in one of the below categories and the suggestions are described below.
- F1 Student in USA : If you are studying on F1 visa and about to graduate in next one year, you should seriously look at finding an internship or co-op at companies that can sponsor your H1B visa. You can search for H1B Sponsors in a particular area using our H1B Sponsors Search Tool and try to get an internship to work there on CPT or OPT after you graduate. This is a strategic move and will require sometime, so plan well.
- Working Professional from outside USA : If you are a working professional outside US, planning to work in US, especially on H1B visa, your best bet is to find Multinational companies ( MNCs) that have major US presence and secure a job there, so that you can position internally for applying to H1B visa, when the season starts. This is a very strategic decision, you need to carefully assess your options, speak to the company if such options exist and then only choose it. There may be many people already in-line for these visas, you need to plan carefully so that you are given a slot in the company’s filing for your next season application.
- Other H4, L1 Visas : If you are on these visas living in USA, your best bet is to find companies just like I mentioned for F1 students that sponsor H1B visas and start interviewing and keeping the conversation going so that you can ask them to file H1B when the season starts.

How to find H1B Visa Sponsor for FY 2018 quota ?
This is probably the most asked question by everyone. It can be a tricky decision, you need be very careful to avoid fraud.
- If you are student in the US, it is very straight forward, you find the list of H1B Sponsoring companies using the tool in an area as I mentioned above and get an internship in one of them so that they can sponsor your H1B visa.
- If you are professional planning to arrive in US from outside America, it can be really tricky. If you work for an Multinational company ( MNC), then they will have some internal process to pick the candidates and then process H1B visa for them…The other option that has been used and abused is the consulting companies route…Many a times, the H1B aspirants approach a body shop IT consulting company to file H1B for them and they apply for the same. It gets nasty with the body shop consulting companies. The comments on this H1B Companies Reviews article are quite eye opening. I advise, you beware of the consulting companies and avoid fraud.

What is H1B Visa 2018 Fee ? How much does it cost for the company ?
The H1B fee varies by the size of the company..As of FY 2017 season, it can range anywhere from $1,600 USD to $7,400 USD + Attorney Fee. On December 23, 2016 , USCIS increased the H1B fee component of base filing fees, which was $325. The below table is updated with the latest fee updates from USCIS. H1B 2018 Lottery Results – Checks Cashed, Receipts :
One of the most asked questions is when will I get to know the lottery result for my petition. Well, this depends on many factors and there is no set SLA or date. To put things in perspective, last year, USCIS did a news alert indicating that they have returned all the rejected H1B petitions on July 8th, 2017. So, you can expect the last date for receiving final lottery decision around mid July 2017. …As we had about same number of petitions filed for FY 2018, it may be slightly earlier or even later in July or even early August 2017… Few of the ways you would know, if you are selected in lottery is that, if the check that was filed with your H1B petition was cashed, or your employer gets the actual physical receipt notice in mail to them. If you filed under US masters quota, SEVIS update is another indication that you were selected in H1B lottery for FY 2018. Ideally, your receipt numbers should arrive within 1 to 2 months…but, you never know, until you get a reject notice to be sure !

New President Trump Administration Impact on H1B Visa 2018 Quota?
We do not know, if this news release is directed by Trump administration or not…but, on April 3rd, 2017 the start date of H1B season, there were set of new announcements made by USCIS to report and prevent abuse of H1B program. Besides this, as of the today ( article updated date), nothing has been officially ordered or specifically implemented by New President Trump Administration. An other case denied due to b.sc chemistry eventhough I have completed MCA and also having 6+ years of experience in IT as a developer. Very very Sad after waiting for 15 months and very painful. They mentioned it’s according to executive orders passed. Is it legal to deny our petition as we are not aware of these conditions while applying way back in 2016.

This is the first time applying h1 for me.
You keep saying this in this forum all the time. “Got rejected”, “BS in Chem”, “executive orders”, blah blah. You never provided what exactly it says on your rejection letter. It could be b/c of a ton of reasons: salary too low? mismatch between MCA and current job specifications? I am pretty sure USCIS did not send out a rejection letter stating simply “oh we deny your petition because of exec orders”.
I myself have a BS in Chem, then a masters in a totally different subject area, and had no trouble getting my petition approved. Worse for you, you got rejected 15 months after filing the petition. So it has nothing to do with the exec orders! If everything in your petition was alright, it should have been approved even before the elections.
Either provide the exact reason for your rejection, or stop spamming this forum.

Your attorney has to argue that denial with USCIS. If the denial is due to the Mar 31 guidelines, then they can argue that it wasn’t in place when the petition was originally filed and shouldn’t be impacted.

Just spoke to Fragomen, they told me that they just started getting the notices and they told that it will continue till summer. They told we should know by next 3-4 weeks and the process is slow.

Did they mean notices or approvals? The last notices should have been received by now. If you haven’t heared anything about receipt notices by now, I would say the chances are very low that you got selected.
AD/VT non-IT , i didn’t hear any news from my attorney, (check en-cash or receipt) , i know uscis announced, it’s completed, but any chances receipt late , any 2 percent chances, or i need to try next year.
I recently saw few comments which said SEVIS is not updated for Non AD. I don’t understand the logic and reason behind that. Any input guys on this ?

How about people who got their bachelor’s from the US? Think before you speak.
Any person who is on F1 visa in USA with active SEVIS account will get their SEVIS updated whether it’s AD or Non-AD but if the person is not on F1 Visa then those are the people for whom SEVIS won’t get updated because they don’t have one.

Giving a perfect answer to your question is quite impossible but probability of getting good news is very low that doesn’t mean you won’t get it there were people who got the good news in earlier part of June too though it’s rare.

Well we can’t be sure. I am hearing some checks getting encashed later and receiving receipt notice first. So it’s better to wait for two more weeks.. you will get an update.

This entire lottery system is unfair , it jus entirely depends on luck , nothing to do with ur knowledge , specially this waiting is each day looks like a yr , anybody from zensar heard anything, it’s a mid size company , applied for total 150 people ,only 4,5 people got result ,loosing hope n patience everyday , but still trying to keep self positive ,
4 or 5 people out of 150 don’t tally the Math which means your company is delaying the results. This may be good or bad sign for you. The reason for good is you may have been picked but not informed by your company yet. 60 to 80 H1B’s should get selected out of 150 given the trend. Don’t worry, be patient look forward don’t think about what already happened and not in your hands. I waited for 6 years to hear that word. Had I lost my cool, I may be not giving you this reply. Good luck for your future, keep fighting until the fate gives up to your attitude.

Got my receipt from my employer on May 4th (Indian MNC/Non AD/VT). Was really excited and thanking God for his blessing.
Now to my pleasant surprise, i found my case to be approved. Case says, it was approved on May 5th but it reflected just now in USCIS site. Don’t know how to react. I applied for the last two years and never got through. This was my last try and luckily i got picked and got approved so quickly. I will never forget how i struggled in the last two year. Do your part and leave the rest to God.

The info that you see on these sites is not accurate. There is NO Way of telling that the petition filed was H1B petition. The receipt number given is for form I-129 and it is used for many visa types like H-1B, H-2A, H-2B, H-3, L-1, O-1, O-2, P-1, P-1S, P-2, P-2S, P-3, P-3S, Q-1, etc. The information that some of these sites do by scraping USCIS site is not correct and we do not want to mislead anyone.

I have 30+ people in my project for whom H1B is filed. FS BU. No updates yet. I have checked in every FS account and checked with mobility team as well, they are yet to send communication on lottery results to FS Account.

Only thing matters is the WP status on the dashboard… If it says receipt notice received… go to the WP and Visa sub-link… there under document # you will see the receipt # updated….
If this is not visible means… not selected….
The chances of this getting updated going forward are extremely remote…. TS/FS doesn’t make any difference….

@CapGem do you see any update happened for you in the last two weekend in ‘My work permit and VISA’ section ? There is an edit symbol just click on it and you will be able to see some of these information and last updated date. If not selected then why they will update filling date and check number etc for some people?

When 100’s of people have not received any update yet, anywhere in FS account, I am not going to consider Game Over yet. And what are you doing here anyways ? You are depressed and frustrated, but that doesn’t mean you start chanting Game Over across the forum. I have tried for H1B 3 times, never got lucky in lottery. But, when someone is keeping hope, that too based on facts, it am not going to put my frustration on them since I didn’t get any update yet.

I checked in my account, the details such as check number and fedex tracking number is updated for everyone, selected or not selected sofar… so believe me these updates do not mean anything…..

Please don’t lose hope guys. It’s not over until your lawyer gets your petition package back! Until yesterday I was in the same dreadful situation of waiting and I know it is horrible. Did you get a “rejection” or have you simply not been selected at the lottery? Those two are completely separate concepts.
Unfortunately if you don’t get selected in lottery, it’s called rejection notice too. But yeah, it would be great if you could tell me if it’s rejected due to not getting selected in lottery or it’s for some other reason.

Its all over for CTS folks.. Go and fight with your manager. Most of the petitions got selected in lottery was set as high priority by managers. Dont know how they choose only those petitions.
Really? How did the manger set the high priority? Did they tell the lawyer this directly? This year is my second attempt, didn’t hear anything yet.
There is no connection between high low medium priorities. Even my petition was set to be highly prioritized and some of my frnds as well , none got picked up! Pure luck !

I would assume so ..not seeing much updates from fellow ibmers,which is very unusual…it can also be that the receipts are send out in smaller numbers that the news is not spreading out that fast
