When does H1B Visa 2018 Season Start ?
Update : USCIS accepted H1B Petitions for FY 2018 starting from April 3rd, 2017 until April 7th. They updated that H1B Cap was reached on April 7th, 2017.
Typically, USCIS accepts H1B petitions for next fiscal year starting from April 1st. So, for FY 2018, the start date for accepting applications would be April 1st, 2017. But, for FY 2018 season, April 1st falls on a Saturday, so USCIS will accept applications starting from Monday, April 3rd, 2017. If you were wondering why called 2018, when in 2017, it is the fiscal year dates that dictate that. USCIS fiscal year is from October 1st to March 30th. So, technically the fiscal year for 2018 starts from October 1st and they accept petitions for the same 6 months before the start date and it would be April 1st, 2017. What is H1B 2018 Quota ? Regular Cap vs Master’s Cap Quota ?

To get some background, read H1B Quota – Regular vs Masters . There have been many speculations on increasing the H1B Cap due to extremely high demand and bills proposed for the same in the past, nothing made it through. As of writing of this article, below is the H1B cap quota. We will keep this article updated as new changes come in. The total H1B Quota as of today is 85,000 and it is split like below.

When to plan for H1B 2018 Application – What should be your strategy ?
It is never too late to start planning…Depending on your situation, you may fall in one of the below categories and the suggestions are described below.
- F1 Student in USA : If you are studying on F1 visa and about to graduate in next one year, you should seriously look at finding an internship or co-op at companies that can sponsor your H1B visa. You can search for H1B Sponsors in a particular area using our H1B Sponsors Search Tool and try to get an internship to work there on CPT or OPT after you graduate. This is a strategic move and will require sometime, so plan well.
- Working Professional from outside USA : If you are a working professional outside US, planning to work in US, especially on H1B visa, your best bet is to find Multinational companies ( MNCs) that have major US presence and secure a job there, so that you can position internally for applying to H1B visa, when the season starts. This is a very strategic decision, you need to carefully assess your options, speak to the company if such options exist and then only choose it. There may be many people already in-line for these visas, you need to plan carefully so that you are given a slot in the company’s filing for your next season application.
- Other H4, L1 Visas : If you are on these visas living in USA, your best bet is to find companies just like I mentioned for F1 students that sponsor H1B visas and start interviewing and keeping the conversation going so that you can ask them to file H1B when the season starts.

How to find H1B Visa Sponsor for FY 2018 quota ?
This is probably the most asked question by everyone. It can be a tricky decision, you need be very careful to avoid fraud.
- If you are student in the US, it is very straight forward, you find the list of H1B Sponsoring companies using the tool in an area as I mentioned above and get an internship in one of them so that they can sponsor your H1B visa.
- If you are professional planning to arrive in US from outside America, it can be really tricky. If you work for an Multinational company ( MNC), then they will have some internal process to pick the candidates and then process H1B visa for them…The other option that has been used and abused is the consulting companies route…Many a times, the H1B aspirants approach a body shop IT consulting company to file H1B for them and they apply for the same. It gets nasty with the body shop consulting companies. The comments on this H1B Companies Reviews article are quite eye opening. I advise, you beware of the consulting companies and avoid fraud.

What is H1B Visa 2018 Fee ? How much does it cost for the company ?
The H1B fee varies by the size of the company..As of FY 2017 season, it can range anywhere from $1,600 USD to $7,400 USD + Attorney Fee. On December 23, 2016 , USCIS increased the H1B fee component of base filing fees, which was $325. The below table is updated with the latest fee updates from USCIS. H1B 2018 Lottery Results – Checks Cashed, Receipts :
One of the most asked questions is when will I get to know the lottery result for my petition. Well, this depends on many factors and there is no set SLA or date. To put things in perspective, last year, USCIS did a news alert indicating that they have returned all the rejected H1B petitions on July 8th, 2017. So, you can expect the last date for receiving final lottery decision around mid July 2017. …As we had about same number of petitions filed for FY 2018, it may be slightly earlier or even later in July or even early August 2017… Few of the ways you would know, if you are selected in lottery is that, if the check that was filed with your H1B petition was cashed, or your employer gets the actual physical receipt notice in mail to them. If you filed under US masters quota, SEVIS update is another indication that you were selected in H1B lottery for FY 2018. Ideally, your receipt numbers should arrive within 1 to 2 months…but, you never know, until you get a reject notice to be sure !

New President Trump Administration Impact on H1B Visa 2018 Quota?
We do not know, if this news release is directed by Trump administration or not…but, on April 3rd, 2017 the start date of H1B season, there were set of new announcements made by USCIS to report and prevent abuse of H1B program. Besides this, as of the today ( article updated date), nothing has been officially ordered or specifically implemented by New President Trump Administration. There are many speculations on how H1B program will become tougher with higher wages, quota limits, etc… but, nothing has been officially signed. We will update the article as new updates come in.
Various H1B Bills in US House and Senate – Will they be passed for FY 2018 ?
There are few bills that are introduced in 2017 and at various stages in both house and senate. On April 27, my employer emailed me that two applications picked up. Also, mension that check came for clearance. But later on I couldn’t get any information. So, I’m getting anxiety. Even for cap i20 university needed receipt but I don’t have it. Please anyone can tell me where I can get information furture. Thank you for help.
May be picked up by Fedex on 27th April. Send FedEx receipt No to DSO and ask for an extension.
If your Check is en-cashed, your bank account statement will have an image of the check with the receipt number. Enter the receipt number on USCIS website and you will know the status

Now that is has come to worst. I am losing my job in 2 months if not picked in lottery for the 4th time/AD. I work for a big company but they are not willing to offer me any back ups (job in alternate country, L1 , CPT etc. ) They said if you are not “lucky” in lottery , you have to leave your job on the end of STEM OPT. Am i eligible for any severance? I can not believe this is happening. There is no hope for a AD/VT with no Sevis update or check cashed right?

I am aghast at your situation and can only empathize with you. You should try to seek employment with an employer who is willing to take you on CPT or seek employment with cap-exempt employers. It’s astounding that I know of people who got receipts for multiple applications (filed through consultancies) and deserving people like you miss out. Life is not fair.

First and foremost , the reason you are on this page is because you all want visa. Everyone’s situation might be different and there is no way to compare anyone’s situation with anyone else. Forget F1, WITCH, companies, OPT CPT everything……… bottom line, a hardworking person who is good at their job should not lose their job because of bad LUCK. That’s what hurts and feels unfair. Just an alternative opinion. I read your blog, most of it. You have good academic achievements. Another option would be to join a PhD program. People who are not shy of hard work should not be shy of working on a PhD. Even if someone gets a H1B, it is not clear how many years it will take for a green card, if your long term goal is to settle in the US. I was in the similar situation earlier in my life when I finished my masters and then I found out about the unfairness that is talked here and decided to continue for a PhD. People say that H1B is unfair, but then they should realize that life in general is not fair, some people are born rich some are not. Example more relevent to the forum, some are born in the US some are not. So one should adapt to deal with that. Although, Trump is doing alot, but personally I don’t think anything related skilled immigration is going to change anytime soon. It is just not a significant issue for the goverment to act on. It is just a a matter of 85K visas, which is a small percentage of total immigrants/year to the US and there are are illeagal immigrants. Just wanted to give my perspective. I totally sympthathize with people who are in your situation.

I doubt there would be any more updates. USCIS would have sent receipts in bulk. Folks have receipts dated from 26th Apr and GICS was updated from 1st till 4th May.

I got my status changed in GICS on Friday night. Please wait. I am thinking there will be couple more updates in the system this week.
No, I think we are done for this year. While every other employers keep a tab on cheques getting encashed. Infy dont do that. They update as and when receipts arrive, and updating the system will be completed in two days. Last year it was the same procedure. The rejection receipt will arrive by end of july. If you want to switch company or project or unit, you will have wait till that time.

My petition has been denied due to the executive orders. I have done graduation in B.sc chemistry which is non-computers. But I have completed MASTER IN COMPUTER APPLICATIONS (MCA) . I applied visa in 2016 March. I have 7+ years of IT experience in IT. Executive orders have been passed from Jan 2017 I guess. Since we already applied visa for previous year 2016 , are we eligible to come under those orders ? Can I challenge ?
What do you mean your petition has been denied due to executive orders? What is the reason for denial stated on your rejection letter, which specific Executive order? There is something more than what you’ve posted here. There is no way an executive order would be the sole reason for your denial.

I think it’s a simulataneous process … as data is entered and provided receipt number, the checks are encashed.. yes we might expect few last checks to get encashed in next two -three days … but by June, all the receipt notices and denial notices will be out

So out of all the big firms.. only TCS seems to be lagging behind. I think everyone else is almost done.
USCIS must definitely be sending receipts in bulk to these firms instead of sending them in batches or for individuals. Someone can correct me if this is wrong.

you should expect significant delays before learning whether your H1B cap petition was selected in the lottery for processing. Until notification has been received from the USCIS, the status of your case will be unavailable

It means that INSzoom closed your case process from their end, as that your petition selected by uscis for ADJUDICATION. Generally this means towards approval process. You must able to see your case receipt number posted there in the tool. You may check your case status by clicking on your receipt number link.

Most of the Attorneys don’t morph the notice as it’s illegal to do so and they can be sued for doing so. You can ask them to share the notice as it carries your name, you can be sure that it belongs to your case.

USCS have started reviewing h1b applications for those who selected in lottery ? How many applications will be review per week any idea ??
Lottery results have not been fully out yet. I think it’s too early to think about these. As per last year trend, (FY2017) approvals started coming out as early as in month of July till now. On how much percentage they work on is–> we have no idea.
My petition was picked and received receipt notice dated Apr 22. My employer shared this info with me yesterday only. When i checked the receipt number on USCIS website, its already approved on May 2.
So i think they have started this early this time.
Found that cases have started getting approval. So I think, yes ! They have started the process. I have no idea how much they take up and work, as this is not the only visa they will work on. They have many other job to do too! Good luck !

You are in. Most of the Attorney ask you to wait, just for double confirming with your name in the petition. That’s all, mostly you are in if your check is encashed.

Guys, While I was in Cap Gap in 2013, I applied for H1b in lottery for AD/VT through Infy, I got both receipt notice and approval on April 29th that year. So in some cases its true.

CTS sends the receipt immediately unlinke other MNC’s. Practically speaking i didnt see any person received after May 5. So iam afraid that game is over for us

VT/Non AD. 2nd attempt. 15 years of career experience. Finally got receipt received notification email last night. Checked INSZoom immediately. Copy of Receipt Notice dated 4/25 (Form I-797C) being uploaded in my supporting document section.

Pls don’t get tensed. Mine I received receipt yesterday night. My inszoom is not still updated as filed but next step updated with receipt number. If your SPOC confirms your name is in final list then don’t worry it is filed and don’t depend on inszoom updates. For results they are sending as slots so you can have hope till May end.

Finally wait is over. Today morning my employer told that they have few cheques cashed but it will take around 48hours to figure it out who has got selected. In the afternoon got mail from hr with copy of receipt no. I am currently on H4 and had applied through regular process. @saurabh..can you please tell what steps involved in this process ahead?
Congrats !!!!There is nothing needs to be done from your end. You have to get your receipt number from you attorney and wait patiently till you get it approved! Good luck on further process.
Get the receipt number from your attorney and track its process in USCIS site.
When some money crocodiles are applying from multiple consultancies where is the chance.. Less chance of getting selected. Don’t keep hope on this. Go back to agriculture or own business if you guys have land and pray for good rain to save our life

Working full time in US. Applied H1 for the 4th time. Only one petition from the company all 4 times. No news yet!
I had a discussion with my Employer/Attorney today, came to know that they haven’t got the results of mine. Logically as the USCIS started sending the rejection letters, there is no point in hopes for the positive results.So better to think about some other plans rather day dreaming
I just get may last receipt so don’t loose hope yet. I applied from four consultant but I only got selected for three. Can anyone please say to me if I apply for four consultant, can I still use my h1b to go to the one for which I wasn’t selected?
Also if I want to change my job when I get to America can I get new employer with no lottary?

If you thing one is not enough then apply 2 but going for 4 and still waiting for the last one and hoping to take of other persons h1b is very bad. I hope you will get approval. I don’t think they can process all three. Be have for your application got picked from one employer. But don’t expect more. I hope you can understand my intention is. Don’t be to much negative, we have more than enough knowledge then you people. We are working for less money because we will charge only the proper amount for that work not more like you with less knowledge. Don’t count every one is a cheap labor and body shop labor. Look at Microsoft CEO. He bring back the value to Microsoft. Look at big it giant google CEO. We are most worthy people. Don’t try to estimate Asians capabilies. If u get rejected then i know what America is losing.. A rich person who cant speak proper english!! I dont see a loss for America here
English is a launguage it’s not a technology or intiligence buddy. Launguage don’t decide the worth of candidate. Don’t judge him by his launguage problem. I hope he might be a talented guy but applying 4 is bad. So don’t be picky on him. If you think about language try to learn Sanskrit, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Chainese any one if these language at least capable enough speaking or writing then talk about other people communication skills.

I don’t speak English very big but for which I fell very sorry but at least I know how to capitalize first person pronouns in a foren language and name of other languages in English. But this is not even about that… I was been a bit cheeky becuz other people are cheeky to me.

I applied to more consultant so that I take chances from people from CTS/TCS/Infosys and give to other genuin candidats.
I wish we could report on you ! you just took two genuine candidates chance at H1B , who might have done AD or even a non-AD person who could have genuinely had a job offer.
Please mail to USCIS on him. This should not be tolerated. As per US immigration policy one person should have only one filing. If he goes against to it all his filings will be canceled.

Your genuineness end with 4 applications. You got receipt for 3 of them and still hoping for the 4th One? Are you serious? You got to be kidding man. You wasted chances of 2 genuinely “genuine” candidates who lost on opportunity – who knows, may be forever to live their dream and make it come true. Do you even feel for them?
