Background of H1B Visa Registration, Lottery

H1B Registration is a simple online H1B applicant registration process, where employers submit the applicant details for whom they intend to file H1B. The simple online form avoids a lot of paperwork for all parties and costs only $10 per applicant in the initial step. You can read full details at What is H1B Registration Process?

USCIS introduced the concept of H1B Registration for the last two seasons. There were 308,613 registrations filed for FY 2022 and 275,000 registrations filed for FY 2021. When USCIS receives more registrations than the quota cap of 85,000 they would run a lottery on the overall pool of registrations. Hence the term H1B Lottery. It is nothing but a random selection process to pick the applicants who can file to fill the H1B cap of 85,000. You can read more at What is H1B Lottery, How it works?

I am currently in H1-B visa and I have booked a slot on October 31st 2022 for H1-b visa stamping at Chennai.

I am also eligible for Interview waiver and booked for the drop box.

Should I have to reschedule my slots unless it’s an emergency?

    • Ravikiran,
Placeholder slots are not real slots, they will get cancelled in future. They are only for emergency appointment.

  5. Hello Kumar,

I have a question: can 2 different companies file H1B applications for me THIS YEAR? Would that be counted as a single attempt or multiple attempts?

NOTE: These are FANG(Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Google) companies and I have a legitimate offer.

  6. I have two employers who are ready to submit my application for h1b this year 2022.

Can I do it? Or will I be rejected because of duplicates? If I get in the lottery from both Can I pick one?

    • Navid,
This is very much dependent on the offers. If you have genuine offers from companies like Microsoft, Google that are not related , it is fine. But, if you are working with IT Bodyshops, then it can be tricky as this has been abused by many and subject to extra scrutiny.
