USCIS received 124,000 H1B Visa 2014 Petitions – Official Lottery Update Results

As predicted by us earlier on USCIS official news update date, USCIS did an official press release today disclosing the details of overall petitions received and lottery process followed, including results. Below is a brief summary of the H1B Visa 2014 news release.

USCIS Official News : Summary of H1B Visa 2014 Lottery Results press release

  • Big News: For the first time in USCIS history since 2008, H1B Visas 2014 cap reached within the first week of filings, i.e, first week of April.  You can check out US Economy and H1B Visa Lottery
  • Total H1B Petitions received :  USCIS received a total of 124,000 H1B Visa petitions for fiscal year 2014.
  • Lottery Information : USCIS conducted a random computer generated random selection process, also called as lottery, on April 7th to select the petitions needed to meet the regular cap of 65,000 and masters cap of 20,000
  • Lottery Process followed: As described in our detail H1B Visa Lottery process, USCIS followed the same thing.  First USCIS conducted lottery process for Masters quota petitions and then the petitions not selected in masters lottery were merged with regular quota pool and random selection process was conducted for remaining pool to select 65,000 petitions.
  • Petitions Not Selected in Lottery  : If your petition was not selected in lottery, USCIS will reject and return the petition along with the filing fee, except for duplicate petitions.
  • Premium Processing for H1B Visa 2014 : To facilitate the data entry process and meet the timelines, USCIS will begin premium processing for H1B Visa 2014 from April 15th.
  • Non-Cap Subject Petitions Accepted :  USCIS will continue to accept non-cap subject petitions i.e, that have already been counted towards to the cap, including petitions filed under below category
    • H1B Visa stay extensions
    • Employee terms changes for H1B visa worker
    • H1B petitions filed for Change of employers
    • H1B petitions filed for concurrent working for more than one employer

  2. how do we know that employer has actually filed for our case? coz i can only know if i get receipt, otherwise i dont have any other document.

        • really employer knows this thing? i mean i mailed my employer asking about cheque getting cash ,but he dint reply on that, he just said please wait for some days 🙁

          • I think you just need to contact the right person. Plus my company is small so its easier to get information without formalities. Find out who has access to your company account and ask for help. I am sure they will understand.

          • but my question in the …cheque en-cash thing is that if….the company have applied for couple of employees..how would one know , money was deducted for which employee..

          • My application reached on the last day. 🙁 I think my lawyer did not expect so many applicants. I was really worried thinking USCIS might take any easy way and do the lottery only on petitions received on the last day but thankfully they dint.

          • I believe when USCIS cash your check, in reference they leave either your name or receipt number as note.

            Am from RP/RQ/VSC

            I checked with my employer 2 days back. He told that none of the checks for the H1 filed from their company are cashed yet.

            Everyday morning I open my mail with a hope to hear some good news from my employer. But there are no updates at all from my employer 🙁

            Do u have any idea as how long can I wait with the hope keeping alive to get a positive response ?

          • Hey Savitha,
            In regards to your question, How long it takes? Find out your attorneys location and your service center, and u can estimate rough time for mail to reach to ur attorney from USCIS centre. and then if ur attorney is active enough he will let ur employer know and ur employer will inform you.
            In my case, before the mail, my employer got notification about check cashed, which is another indication that they are working on your application, in other words you r selected in lottery.
            Lastly, USCIS is genrating around 6-8k applications per day, with that speed they will be done sending all applications by 25th april. if your application is in the last day lot, then they will send it attorney n then to employer n then to u, which can take extra 1-2 week. So there is nothing to be panic about till 1st or 2nd week of may.
            After that also USCIS will replace rejected applications with waitlisted ones. Bottom line, keep your hopes alive untill u get the package back. but I know you will get the receipt number in next couple of day 🙂 Good luck

      Am from RP/RQ/VSC

      • I am not sure. But it looks like today was the first day they started processing RP. So I think you should wait before coming to any conclusion. I spoke with my lawyer today and he hasn’t heard of anyones check being cashed yet. So just have patience. I know it is super hard to wait anymore but what else can we do.

  6. i think only pp guys getting luck 🙁 mine was premium but my employer saying he applied in regular. pp guys are even get selected today 🙁 how lucky they are

    • Yes .. They are lucky to know the result either positive or negative soon…
      RP has to wait for PP completion:)

    • @Sad : I am also in the same bucket mine was premium but my employer filed in regular.
      Could you let me know the first alphabet of your employer name,,,just wild guess ..because i believe we would not be comfortable in spelling out the full name

    • Sad dont be upset. If you apply in premium sure you will get result in 15 days but at the same time they say premium cases r handled by very experienced ppl, your chances of RFE increases and sometimes they give your RFE so that they can just get more time. So dont b sad, you r Ok where you are. i might upgrade my application to PP but its lil risky though. Good luck.

  10. Just received the email from my attorney. My H-1B was approved. They started reviewing today and a few hours later my attorney received the email from them. Also, using my receipt # on USCIS’s website I can check it was approved as well.

    CSC / Regular quota/ PP

    I do hope all of you in this forum can make it. I’ve been praying for this.

    DON’T LOOSE HOPE! Just wait for news before giving up!

      • Yes, I did receive my receipt # exactly a week ago.

        My luck: the attorney is very helpful as my employer. So they kept me informed. I’ve been reading here that some people don’t have access to their attorneys and sometimes they just don’t have access to the info. All the information was sent to my attorney, not to my employer.

        So I suggest to everyone: don’t loose hope. I know it’s a very stressful time, but don’t loose hope.

        • Just do increments of +1 (there are like 8 out of 70 receipts that show 15 day clock started) on the numbers i posted on the USCIS case status page. I have been tracking numbers every chance that i get.

          • No problem. They have been doing regular processing all day. Based on what I have seeing (receipt sifting), 80 % of the cases are H1b related of which roughly 4 – 5 % are PP. remaining 15 % seems to be OPT applications and 5 % for misc apps.

            VSC does roughly 4 to 5 K apps (H1b, EB, OPT, etc) in a day. At this rate, they may not be done with H1b even by end of this week.

            Feel sorry for this guy/gal. maybe next year or STEM extension if you have any.

          • I guess some petitions woudl get rejected. The rejection rate has always been above 11%.

            But tell me something guys the petition no: EAC1313753557 says its in Initial review. I got my no last wednesday and mine is still in acceptance. Are we sure this is a “new” approved petition that has gone into review after acceptance or has it been that one of the acceptance one was changed to initial review and just the day no changed in the EAC1313X…

            Anyone has a clue?

    Employer checked today and my checks are deposited by USCIS. Hopefully will get mail receipt soon and hopefully all AD will get the good news ASAP.

  16. I applied with a Premium Process, but so far neither my employer nor my attorney received any notification, and the fees haven’t been charged: should I stop hoping?

        Can i get your email ID ….I am on same boat AD/PP/CSC no reciept till now tensed ..Nerves are getting weak buddy ..I am feeling to shout like anything may be i will become mad after few days if this goes in same way…

        • hang in there you guys. CSC has been slow in processing PP as compared to VSC. All ADs should get it and we hopefully will. It would be very unfair for ADs to miss out because of some stupid IT consultancy that might not even send a guy in the end.

    Checked with employer and attorney now – Neither check cashed nor received receipt

  18. Ok guys, dont at all get depress with sucess stories of others. Its all about timing, someone mentioned that USCIS is processing 8k applciations per day, with that speed they will be done sending all applications by around 25th.
    Now consider the worst case scenario, if your application is one of those 8k sent on 25th , it will take a week or so to reach to your attorney, n then attorney will inform your employer. and u know attorney n emplyer can be late in letting u know sometime (coz its not their application, so they dont care :@).
    All together, take a chill pill its ok to keep refreshing ur email and this forum every now n then but dont over do it. Make sure to take food n hv sleep properly too. Eventually all of u ll get it. good luck

        • I hope so dude…Not only did I love my job but also my bf who’s also a foreigner doing his PhD here…not knowing what I would do if I was rejected the visa…would be like my whole world collapse 🙁

          • I so know what you are talking about. We have built our new families around here. Its not at all about money for me. I would have gladly gone back if I had no ties here. 🙁

          • If I had known it would have come down a stupid lottery, I would have asked my employer to apply for me from last year…At that time, I wanted to take advantage of the OPT though and I was the first foreigner to join the company so my boss actually didn’t know anything about how to apply for the visa last year 🙁

          • Same here. I am the only one applying for work visa from my company. I am not sure how good a job the lawyer has done on my application. Just hoping for the best.

            But to start with, why r we thinking about that you will make it for sure and then dont forget to share with us.

          • Thank you Manish…I do love working and not having to depend on someone else…I’m a graphic designer so it’s not like I’m making 100k/year with it but I enjoy it very much. If I go back home there is a very little market for my job 🙁 All my friends are here too…You know what I mean. Your suggestion would be my last resort if I fail the H1B and I’m not even sure it would be a good option…
            Ok enough whining back to work…crossing everything I can cross now lol

You like your job, your bf is here, ur life is here, fight for it n i know you will make it through lottery, u dont have to go through any other way.           • Just sharing, some of my older friends when they failed the 2007 lottery, some went to Singapore or UK to work then go back to the US to get a Master and start everything over again…one lost her job when the Lehmann’s brothers collapsed so she went back home…everyone is happy now…so I know whatever happens it will be fine eventually…

          • Thanks Manish. But we dont want to loose our jobs and jeopardize our careers. Thanks for the support though. I am AD/Regular/VSC. I see many non-PP people posting about getting through making me even more anxious.

  19. Got mine right now… WAC, Regular Cap, Premium Processing… I have no idea when it was received by my lawyer or if it was e-mail or snail mail.

        • Gotcha. Well Congrats my friend. I am genuinely happy for each person selected even though its not me and I think its because I wouldnt wish this feeling of uncertainty on any one! still keeping fingers crossed. RQ/PP/WAC

          • Not updated. My case coordinator is on vacation for the rest of the week, I was mailed by someone else from the company. Also, the receipt# indicates I was processed on last Monday (first day of processing).

          • I got mine yesterday , Fragomen / AD/PP/CSC.

            They just updated IHP. I am sure you have got and Fragomen is doing a great job communicating. they were sitting on mine since Apr 10.

            If they answer the phone, I would recommend talking to them or ask your HR tp escalate.

    With only a bachelor degree in US instead of an advanced degree, my chance has been substantially reduced already…
    Now added to that regular processing instead of premium

  22. Please check with your employers too. I have a lawyer and they did not get the receipt but my employer did. Received yesterday but my employer opened the letter casually today and let me know. “oh saw your receipt yesterday”. 🙂

  25. I just saw this receipt out of CSC – WAC1313551190. Looks like they are still processing PP petitions and sending out mails which should reach us by the end of this week I guess. Many people here on this forum have been panicking with good reason that all hope is lost for PP petitions, I don’t think that’s the case as people have been hearing back from their lawyers/employers about their mailed receipts yesterday and today. There is still hope guys and I think CSC is very slow in processing applications and we should know in due time.

    One last clarification is that, USCIS announced that Premium processing of applications will start on the 15th earlier on, which only means that they will start “the premium processing of applications from the 15th onward, it doesn’t mean in anyway that all PP petitions should have started processing on the 15th. Premium processing is a 15 day turnaround option which only depends on the day they start processing your petition, so they day in essence would be the day they open up your petition. It could be the 18th or it could be the 22nd etc.
    So for this petition i came across WAC1313551190 – It says the premium processing clocl starts today, hence they would take a maximum of 15 days to process which would be May 1st for this particular petition.

    All Im saying is please dont lose hope guys, as there is not particular order they are processing applications in. I am in the same boat as you – CSC/AD/PP

  30. My friend got her receipt today. It was generated on friday from California center and she lives in California.

    AD/RP/WAC

    It arrived by regular mail.

    One other friend got the receipt in Boston from vermont center yesterday – same quota

    • My 2 friends got the reciept yesterday through regular mail…both AD/RP one is based in Atlanta another in Dallas

      • I have also applied through AD/RP/VSC and have not got any mail yet. Checked with my employer, he said the checks are not cashed yet. Those who have got the mail, please let us know if your check is cashed…… I wish it picks up 🙁

    • First thing first, the bill will not see the light of congress in the near future, especially after Boston incident yesterday.

      Multiple congressman has already use yesterday incident to politicize the issue.
      2014 Elections is going to make matter worst. No congressman in his/her sane political mind is going to vote “yes” for the bill.

    Advance degree / Regular processing / Vermont service center. I sincerely wish all the eligible people get through this one. I am pretty confident that all masters will definitely get through this one.

  38. A humble suggestion. Can we all request manmohan Singh to introduce a bill wherein we need to have lottery for tourist visas to India that come from America alone?
    Can we all sign a petition and send to the president of India?

    • Yes. Caz americans are as desperate to visit India as you are of working the US. So desperate that some of Indian IT consultancies violate uscis laws by asking the applicant to pay. I see Americans trying such shortcuts of getting into India in the future too. Brilliant foresight!

      why do you want to raise an unnecessary issue. If that the case, i suggest we should also restrict people of every state to come to US and follow the quota rule. There are tons of people in US who are from Andhra. So, u guys should not complain.

    On April 16, 2013, the 15-day Premium Processing clock stopped on your I129, PETITION FOR A NONIMMIGRANT WORKER. A notice was sent on this date explaining the specific reason for stopping the premium processing of your case. This notice will contain detailed information on further action required by you. Your premium processing receipt notice contains contact information for direct inquiries on your case.

    Why did it say the 15-day Premium Processing clock stopped on your I129? Is it some thing to really worry about?Have anybody got same kind of message ?

  43. Generate a barcode on the LCA and ask the peiritioner to paste it on the h1b petition and scan when they arrive and again scan if selected. Then have the system auto send emails in batches to notify. How hard is that? This wait is torture.

    • One LCA can be used for multiple employees/people.

      I don’t disagree that this is stupid, but your suggestion won’t work. 🙁

    • Well we can have the I-129 filled online so that there is no need for manual entry. Employers can take a print of the form filled online (the printed form has a bar-code) and the process continues as it is. Just instead of USCIS filling the data manually into their system they just need to scan the barcode on the printed form and they are good to go ……

      This wont just help us in getting response faster but would also save a lot of effort and case of manual error in their case ….. I got wrong company name printed on my L1 (So I know manual error do happen 😀 )
