Experience 2: H1B with Dropbox at Chennai
First time H1B with existing valid B1 visa: Bangalore Dropbox

Sharing a few things learnt:
- Get your photo right. Click it from good studios who know the US specifications. Eg: GKWale, to avoid them asking us to click again.
- Reach drop box location early. Even though I was on time, I had a waiting time of 3hours!
- In my case, the documents carried are I797 copy, 1 photo, employment verification letter, vac appointment copy, ds-160 copy, client letter/internal letter from the employer if its an internal project, original passports
- Even if they don’t ask for client letter for first time H1B, make sure you give the client letter, might help avoiding 221g if everything else is in place. (They didn’t ask me client letter at the Dropbox center, still gave)
- It’s good if the client letter or internal offer letter has the job description, date of starting/completion etc. My thinking is, if we can give enough info to the vac officer who will be checking out documents to make her/him convinced on our case, irrespective of first time H1B we can avoid 221g( I could be wrong, but worked in my case)

Experience 3: H1B with Dropbox, 221g, In Person Interview at Mumbai
H1B visa Approval timeline.
August 1st – Dropbox Appointment Mumbai
August 2nd – case created
August 12th – Refused
I started following up with them via emails and calls. They mentioned it is under Administrative Processing.
After constant follow up, on September 12th – Received an email stating that my visa application is refused Section 221g.
September 16th – I received my passport back with 221g white slip. It said, “your visa application requires additional Administrative Processing”.
September 26th – received an email saying that the application is under review and it will take 180 days to get a response.
October 12th – They sent an email asking for my passport, I797 and 221g slip.
October 17th – Went to Mumbai VAC center. Walk in time 10AM-4PM. I went inside at 10AM. Gave my passport and documents, he asked me for the offer letter.
October 18th – Status changed to Administrative Processing.
October 19th – Approved
October 20th – Issued
October 21st – Received passport back with stamping. YAY 😀
I would say just have some faith and patience. You will get some good news soon. Follow up once a week.
Experience 4: H1B+H4(Spouse+Kid) with Dropbox, 221g, In Person Interview at Chennai
My timeline (H1B, 2H4-myself and 12 year old )
July 26th- Application Dropoff(Chennai)
July 28th-Refused
Aug 16th- Email for picking up Passport (No other update meanwhile, ceac status still Refused)
Aug 17th- Collected Passport with 221g white slip asking to attend Interview on Sept 1st along with dependents. No documents asked.
We emailed the consulate for rescheduling the dates to an earlier date. But they asked us to come on the same date at Chennai.
Sept 1st- Interview.
Asked 5 questions
- Which company you work for?
- How much is your salary?
- How many years are you working for the company?
- Who is your client?
- What is your designation?
- Did they ask you to carry any documents?
Officer herself confused, again looked at the screen and 221g, handed over 221g (Pink slip). She said just the H1B will receive a questionnaire. The sooner we reply the sooner they will process. Till then it will be in administrative processing.
We received an email the same date which was a questionnaire asking 15 years travel History and employment history. No other documents asked. It wasn’t explicitly mentioned DS5535, but it was similar to that and a document number was mentioned on top right of the questionnaire.
Sept 5th- H1B emailed the questionnaire. No acknowledgment. Ceac status still refused.
Sept 15th- We called US travels help desk. Apparently they were not sure whether the questionnaire has been received at the consulate. They asked us to email it again and ensure we get an acknowledgment. We emailed again this time and received auto acknowledgement from US consulate about the receipt of the same.
Oct 6-H1B Status Changed to Administrative processing around 3pm and Approved at 4:30 pm.
H4 myself and my 12 year old receive the same questionnaire the same time the status changed for H1B.
Oct 7-H1B issued/H4- Refused and H4questionnaire submitted.
Oct 11-Collected H1B passport with stamping done and at the same time H4 status changed to Approved.
Oct 14- H4 Issued
Oct 22nd Back to US
I spoke to many people during this timeframe. What I understand is every case has been different. And nothing matched to whatever happened to other people. We visited India after a gap of 8 years and my husband works for an Indian IT company.
I hope this helps to anyone who is looking for an info. After that we called US travel desk twice a week and they told us timeline is 180days and we need to wait.

Experience 5: H1B with Dropbox, 221g at Mumbai
Category: First timeH H1B (converting from F1 to H1B).
Consulate: Mumbai.
April 8th : Drop Box , dropped my documents at Hyderabad Consulate.
April 20th : Got an update saying that the case got Refused, received my passport with the slip asking me to attend for an interview at Mumbai Consulate.
May 16th : Attended for an interview at Mumbai Consulate, where i got 221g (Yellow Slip) at the time of interview and asked me to submit all the documents that are in the 221g slip.
June 9h : Submitted the requested documents and received automated email saying documents have been submitted.
After submission, there is no updated from consulate on my case. Used to reach out to support team for every 2 weeks through phone and email “support-india@ustraveldocs.com”. Used to get generic response that need to wait.
October 17th : Received an email from support (but the update was from the Consulate)saying that the case was refused under 221g and case cannot able to expidite.
October 19th : Case got updated from Refused to Admin Processing.
October 20 : Received an email saying that to submit the passport and they are ready for final processing.
October 21 : Submitted Passport at HYD consulate.
October 25 : Date got updated again saying that it is still in Admin processing in the CEAC website.
October 26 : Date got updated again saying that it is still in Admin processing in the CEAC website.
October 27 : Updated from Admin Processing to Approved in the CEAC website
October 28 : Updated from Approved to Issued in the CEAC website
October 30 : Received Passport to Home directly as i selected for Delivery.

Experience 8: H1B with In Person Interview at New Delhi
Date : 1st November
Location : Delhi embassy
Time 10.10 AM
They allowed me to enter at 8.30 AM and I came out by 10 AM
It was a very smooth process.

She smiled and said congratulations your visa is approved.
Officers didn’t ask for any other documents.
It’s a very smooth process, if you have all the documents and confident about your job role /duty and company details so don’t worry.

Biometrics – Phones were allowed but asked to be switched off. Locker facilities are available below but not preferable.
They asked me to make one correction in the ds160 for name. They charged 250rs within the same building.

Experience 10: H1B with In Person Interview at Mumbai
Interview on 4th November at 9:10AM, Approved.

Total process took 90 minutes and Interview was done in 3 minutes ( no questions to dependents) and said your VISA got approved.
November 3rd, Biometrics experience: just want to share , this may help to some one.
Reached at 10 AM for 10:30 AM slot and did a mistake in My younger son dob(month wrong) in D160 and they have requested me to correct and bring new printout as option to create new application using security questions using mobile /cybercell near to entrance.
They took 3000 rupees to create a DS160 form again for my son and finally given form in 10 minutes and biometrics completed for my younger son as well.
Note: My humble request is that better validate DS160 data against to your passport before 1 day to avoid this issues because you can create /update DS 160 data by yourself if any changes required instead of paying them 3K.

My suggestion: Do not tense and always be confident while answering.

Attended with 3 dependents.

Reached the location almost an hour before.
Security sent us inside after checking passport and DS160.
waited 10 mnts in waiting hall after security check.
Joined the queue for biometric verification.
After 5 mnts joined queue for consular interview and reached counter after 10 mnts, around 15 members were before us.
5 windows were opened for interview.

Experience 14: H1B with In Person Interview at Chennai
My H1B visa(fresh) got approved today.
Nov 4th : biometric
Nothing as such you need to worry. All you need to carry is

My appointment is at 3:30 reached there by 3:10 and asked to wait and after 10min they asked us to stand in line.(there is a locker facility in that building)
Nov9th:
My appointment is 11:30am reached there by 11:00am. You need carry passport, I797b, client letter(if applicable) I can see these three documents list on the board inside consulate.
They allowed me when I reached there. One person will verify passport and let u in. After that there is security check and interview line in another building.

Note: Need to carry all supporting documents just in case.
Experience 15: H1B with Dropbox at Bengaluru
My H1B Dropbox appointment was at 2:45pm at Chennai Consulate. I chose to drop off my documents at Bangalore. I reached at 1pm itself. I had to get photos, so I just crossed the road and took photos in the shop opposite. They also had locker facility, so stored my bags there. When I went to VFS, I was told that I can get in only at 2:45pm. There is ample space outside the VFS center to sit. Waited there till 2:45. At 2:45 there was a big queue. We were let in after security check. Once inside, we need to go upstairs for US visa. Once again there was a small queue upstairs to enter the visa doc collection room. Once inside the room, they have a token and told us to come after 5:30pm. shocking Apparently, there are too many people turning up at Bangalore even though they have taken appointment at different consulates. The VFS people were short staffed and so they couldn’t process at the same speed. So there is a huge wait time (3 hours). My token was 302 and the current token was 190. Anyway, went outside, roamed around, etc and then came back by 4:30pm and the current token was just 235. Then waited inside till my number was called at 6:30pm. At that time, they called me to one counter for checking the docs and then to another counter for paying the fees (Rs. 650). That process took less than 5 mins. Docs collected:

- New I-797
- Old I-797
- Client or company letter
- One Photo
They said max processing time is 3 weeks. I would suggest planning to be at the collection center at least for 4-5 hours. Also when they tell you to come back after a certain number of hours, it is true that it will take that much time.

Tip : keep passport, 797B, LCA, Client/employer offer letter handy.
There are only four active counters where the interview is going on. I couldn’t see the last counter but the other three has female officers and communicating so comfortably with people.
There are 6 rows initially where you were asked to take a seat after entering into the embassy. Later they’ll allow two rows at a time to the interview spot. At the spot, at starting counter, they’ll verify your fingerprints and ask you to join the queue. They are allowing three people for each counter and asked to stand in a queue maintaining some distance.

Experience 21: H1B+H4(Spouse+2 Kids) with In Person Interview at Mumbai
Report 30 mins before interview time as they allow only at the stipulated timings ,reaching very early might not be helpful
At the entry they check appointment confirmation mail and passports and let you in
Then you would be directed inside where you shall find a security person who will store only your mobile phones ,no other electronic devices are allowed ,50 rs per mobile
Then baggage scan would be done ,in which we would place the folder with docs ,then they will direct you to the entry place of interview,in between there will be a waiting area and restrooms ,if you want to access.
They will direct you in a queue which would lead you to any of the last three counters where they will take ur documents ,documents requested are I-797,LCA, employment verification letter,marriage certificate,birth certificate of kids and passports they verify them and ask you to keep only those outside the folder
They would direct you to any of the actual interview counters ,
He verified those doc’s and asked the following questions
1)Do you have a client
2)What does ur client do
3)what is ur highest qualification
4)To spouse: are you working as well?
Then they took finger prints of primary and h4 spouse
Your visa is approved and handed two white slips,one being passport delivery info and next is US rights slip

If you carrying mobile then you need to submit at the counter outside the embassy, please note the queue for this is long and takes time and it cost 20/-

Then baggage scan would be done ,in which we would place the folder with docs ,then they will direct you to the entry place of interview,in between there will be a waiting area
Then they will direct you to the counter where your fingerprints are verified again and the officer asks for your passport and I797
Once fingerprints are verified
They would direct you to any of the actual interview counters ,
The Visa Officer lady asked for my passport and I797 and below were the questions:-
1)how long are you with your current organization?
2)what is your proposed salary in US?
3)what is ur highest qualification?
4) I can see you were in US till last year what was the reason for you to come back?
Your visa is approved and you will receive it in 5 business days

They don’t allow any electronic items or hand bags. They are not letting people to submit their docs before the time slot so I would suggest go before 1 hour

Photos requirement:
Note: Photos are rejecting frequently, Ears should be visible , 80% face should cover in photo , 2×2 size , No borders, better take photos in at Drop box center to avoid delay.they charge 250rs for two photos at Dropbox center.
Finally without mask they won’t allow you to step-in
