Experience 1: H1B+H4 with In Person Interview at Mumbai
I have attended my H1B visa interview on 25th Jan at Consulate.
Interview Slot: 9:00 AM
Reached there by 8:15 AM and they started calling candidates for 9:00 AM slot
After the regular security check, entered embassy and saw a long queue for interview, first we have gone to a counter and officer checked passport and petition (I797B doc), after that gone to another counter for Biometrics.
There was a long queue for interview and I finally reached the interview counter in half hour.
Me : Good Morning officer
VO: Good morning and he asked me to pass over all the documents that I was carrying in my hand, handed over passport, I797B, LCA, End Client Letter, Employment Confirmation Letter, Marriage Certificate
VO: What is your relationship with each other?
Me: Answered
VO: How long you have been working with your client?
Me: Answered number of years
VO: How long you have been working with your Employer?
Me: Answered number of years
VO: What is your highest qualification?
Me: Told highest qualification details
VO: What is your spouse highest classification?
Me: Told highest qualification details
VO: To Spouse and me, Please scan your left hand four fingers on the scanner
VO: He typed something on the Computer and finally he said your Visa is approved and you will get your stamped passport within a week.
Me: Thank you very much sir, and VO passed over all the documents along with a paper with QR code to understand US Rights
Everything was so quick, it took just minute for interview.
My observations if it helps:
Be confident and listen carefully what visa officer is asking and then give answers to the question asked.
Experience 2: H1B with In Person Interview at New Delhi

Experience 3: H1B with In Person Interview at New Delhi
Visa Approved. My experience in detail
Date : Jan 19 (Bio metric – mobile allowed) Jan24(Interview – Mobile and Bag locker available)
My employer : Consultancy ( I didn’t have Client letter)
Time : 9;30 am and they allowed 8:20 and came out 9:10
Interview Duration : 2 mins
Documents I carried : Passport,Appointment confirmation, DS160(My consulate was Chennai and they updated it to Delhi on the day and asked me to wait 10 mins), i129, i797(only photocopy), LCA, Offer letter, All experience certificates and academic certificate photo copies, MSA, G28
Documents they asked : Passport, I797 (only 2 documents)
About VO : one white young lady (one experience lady was sitting back and trained her during interview)
Questions Asked :
- Roles and responsibilities
- Client name (Asked me to spell out)
- Salary
- where are you going to USA
- how long you are working with your current employer(I told her the petitioner is my future employer. She asked me about my current employer- I answered One year)
- Highest Education Qualification
- Did you read your USA rights while creating applications(I said I read in the internet and I know few of them.)
No questions asked other than this.
She turned back and saw the senior lady and both smiled each other. Finally she told me the golden words “Visa Approve” . she kept my passport and she asked me to leave.
I asked her about White slip and she said not needed. No slip provided.

Some suggestion :
- Be confident and calm.
- Please reach as early as possible
- Communication is not an issue(I saw few candidates talked with VO in Hindi in between. VO smiled and remained them that she doesn’t know hindi. One lady came for h4 and she was struggling to talk in English and VO managed to talk slowly and made her understand and finally approved VISA)
- Know about your employer and client (name, location, no of employees and business)

Experience 4: H1B+H4 with In Person Interview at Mumbai
Below is my experience at VAC & consulate.
Biometric Date: 17th Jan @ 10:30 am.
Has Locker facility: We did not opt for Locker Facility, as we kept everything in the car.
Car Parking: Government Pay & park facility is available at around 500 meters from the OFC center. Exactly next to the US Consulate.
Stage 1: Document verification and Passport Barcode sticker:
Question asked to me and my spouse:
1. What is your full name?
2. What is your Date of Birth?
Documents requested to present:
1. Appointment confirmation
2. DS 160 confirmation,
3. Latest valid Passports
Stage 2: Biometrics scan and photograph:
Presented the same DS160 and valid passports at the counter and then the biometrics scan and photograph was taken.
Other Details:
Reached the location 15 min before. The Security team allowed us to go in early. The total time taken for the Biometrics process starting from entering the OFC center till exit is 20 min.
Things were executed as per the schedule, rather quicker than expected.
Interview Date: 31st Jan @ 8:50 am
Has Locker facility: We Did not opt for Locker Facility as we kept everything in the car.
Parking: Government Pay & park facility is available exactly next to the US Consulate at Ambani square.
Stage 1:
At the entrance: Here they will allow the candidates as per the given time slots. No early bird benefits.
They validate the passport and allow us to get in.
Stage 2:
Lockers are available to store your mobiles only.
Bags or any type of luggage is not allowed.
They allow car keys to carry in with you.
Stage 3:
Security check: you need to put all your belongings in to the tray to pass through scanner.
Then after passing through the metal detector and manual body scanning (same as we see at any mall entrance) we were allowed to move ahead to next stage.
Note: It is better to get early morning slot, else the delay in process completion of earlier candidates will results you to wait for more time to reach for biometrics verification.
In case if you have to wait, then they have enough sitting arrangement to wait before we get in to the area for biometrics verification.
Stage 4:
Biometrics verification: wait time 20 min.
Document requested to present:
1. Latest valid Passports.
2. I797B photocopy.
Within 3 min the biometrics verification was done and we moved to the queue for interview.
Stage 5:
Interview: wait time 45 min.
Document requested to present:
1. Latest valid Passports.
2. I797B photocopy.
Questions asked to me:
1. What will be your onsite designation?
2. Since how long you are working with LTIMindtree?
3. What would be your work location? LTIM office or Client?
Visa officer has not asked any questions asked to my Spouse.
I asked again to the Visa officer if he want to review any other document such as LCA or employment letter but they said it is not required.
After listening to my answer to the third question, visa officer said those golden words, ‘Congratulations, your visas are approved !’
The actual interview finished within 5 minutes.
Stage 6:
Exit: on the way back you can pick up the mobile kept in lockers.
Other Details:
1. No point in reaching the location extra early (30 min early is enough), as they will allow you to enter only as per the booked tile slot.
2. Things were executed as per the schedule, rather quicker than expected.
3. Be confident and calm.
4. Get well-verse with all your details.
5. Even though I mentioned in DS160 that my spouse is working (Non-IT), they did not ask anything about her employment such as resignation proof or employment proof.
Experience 5: H1B with Dropbox at Mumbai
Dropbox timeline and place
Note: I did total 3 masters 4th was running and dropped in between after H1 approval
Appointment:01/20/2021 at 9.45 : Reached there 8.30am and guards let me in immediately.
There was not that much rush for drop box. I have middle name correction that I need to do. Document verifier has checked documents and ask me to update the middle name and come back.
There were 2 options
1st options : There is office for correction exactly in-front of biometric/ dropbox office . DS 160 correction charges are 3000 and second option was 10 minutes away from Biometric office charge 1000INR. I choose the second one as officer said comeback anytime before 3pm.
Updated DS 160 and reached back around 9.45 and drop box line increased I had to wait for 45 min in line. Went to different windows and officer checked documents and asked me what went wrong explain the reason and he has verified documents and said your document are okay you will notify for further updates in 14 business days

Experience 6: H1B with In Person Interview at Mumbai
VISA Interview and Biometrics of my Wife
Note: 5 times rejections in F1 so while filling applications she got the interview Also she did 2nd masters and utilized her full 2 year Day 1CPT
Biometric Date and time: 01/20/2023 reached there 8.30 and went inside immediately. For Biometric no phone allowed. Completed Biometric and photo by 9am
Interview date and time: 01/23/2023 time 9.00am. Reached there 8am.
8.30 called for 9:00am visa slots folks. At the entrance passport scanned from the Biometric sticker and let her in
First security check up and then waiting area. She waited 45 min to get interview number. 9.45 she got the number

Experience 7: H1B with In Person Interview at New Delhi
I am happy to share my visa interview experience today.
Interview date : 1st Feb’23
Time : 9.50 AM
I reached early at 8 AM. The security called all the people having slot between 8 to 11AM.
Total time taken was not more than an hour. I will advise you to go early if your consulate is New Delhi. I came out at 9 AM.
Counter no : 19
A young white lady was sitting and She was very polite
Documents asked : I 797 and passport. No other documents were asked.
Interview questions:

OFC: on Feb 1st 8:30AM .
The entire process completed in 30min including waiting period.
Suggestion: Reach before 15min otherwise you should wait outside and temparature were down in Delhi & better to wear jackets.

Experience 9: H1B with In Person Interview at Mumbai
I must thank each one of the this group including the admin for making this group is so lively and so useful as it is served purpose at fullest
YES, VO has taken my passport with Golden words…YOUR VISA IS APPROVED 
On the day of the interview I reached the US embassy by 8am only though my slot is at 9:30am. And they sent me in after a security check. you can deposit your mobile and backpack at security by paying 50.
They asked me to sit in the shed along with 50 other aspirants.
After passport check and biometric, we wait in the queue for the VO.
Before me, one lady had a tough time before getting the approval, I overheard Their conversation. I know it is bad
she was asking about project details and client letters and client location. Bit she got the approval. So I thought it was a positive sign.
Now it’s my turn. I walk firmly to the VO officer. I wishes her with good morning she replied for that
VO: can you give the passport and i797
me: handed over to her
VO: Who is your employer?
me: replied for that i was there in my questioner
VO: Do you have an end client?
me: NO i work for this employer
VO: have you been to the USA before?
me: yes on b1/2
VO: for which company you worked when you were on b1?
me: (as many of us know we should work on b1 visa as it is purely for business purposes only) replied that, No gathered requirement and came back to India and worked on them.
VO: who paid your salary when you were in the USA on b1?
me: I have received per diem paid by my company in India.
( Basically she is trying to check whether I have worked on b1 or not)
VO asked about the duration of my stay in the USA on B1/2 and an explanation about the purpose.
VO: What salary will you get with the future employer?
me: replied monthly and yearly also

then she is talking about what are rights in the USA as non-immigrant. She kept the passport. It took a few seconds to understand I was done.
And I have finally received my passport with stamping, today, as I have preferred for the premium delivery though the Blue-dart.

Came out by 08.50 (Before my actual appointment time 9AM), the whole process was done in just 30 minutes.
Note: Please don’t carry any electronic devices. In Chennai there is no counter to deposit mobiles.

Experience 13: H1B with In Person Interview at Mumbai
Namaste,
- I went for biometric to kolkata on 20th January
- For Consular appointment on 3rd Feb to Mumbai.
- Visa status approver on same day(3rd Feb)
- On 6th My status changed to issued.( passport received from consulate and being processed for delivery). It took two day to change status because my interview was on Friday.
Biometric :
If you taking phone or any electronic iteams, then keep switched off and keep with you(allowed)
For biomatric, morning 8:30 starts and is the best time. Reach by 8am and stand infront of larger gate, because that would start the queue.
Inside no security check you will get. In two minuits, your work would be done. I returned from the building by 8:40am
Consular appointment :
Do not bring any beg or large iteams or phone. They will charge 400 rupees for locker.
For locker, you will walk for one and half kilomiter to the standard bank back building.
My interview was at 8:40am.
I stand on the first entry queue around 8:10am.
- First security checked and passed where they will check your passport and will scan, i797 original copy and confirmation letter.
- Second security will ask you to keep documents, other belongings on a trey and go through the scan and checking
- Then you will enter to the hall where others(more than 400) people would be on queue. Stand on queue for fingertip verification. There they will ask to keep employee verification letter, passport and i797 on hand.
- Then according to language, they will ask you to stand on queus(choose english as it is very fast moving queue)
- When your turn will come, the interviewer will ask you to give passport, then i797 and employee verification letter with supporting documents(if you are going for in house project) else client letter
- They will take max ind and half minuit to know whether your documents are right or wrong.
- Then the officer will give you a white slip to know your rights in US. Now you are free to leave.

- Got a vendor letter, employment letter, Service agreement and subcontracting agreement from vendor
- For safe side – Took a screenshot of an old email sent to me by my client manager saying thank you for my contribution in the project (project names mentioned)

Reached the consulate at 8:34 AM though the appointment is at 9
They called everyone with 221G so ppl behind me and front me had 221g

They allow us as per our time slots and it hardly take 20 minutes after entering in the center.

Time : Bio Metric – 4:45pm and Interview – 8:40 am

Questions Asked 😊 before he ask anything I greeted with Very good morning officer and he greeted me back very good morning, sir than I itself passed my passport for that he said thank you (i.e. without asking I did) than he asked me for I-797

- What will you do for you employer – answered like I will not do for employer but I will do client project and name of the client ( he asked repeat client name I did he didn’t get he asked me to spell it I did he said ok)
- He asked where you will stay – said near employer
- He asked for address of your stay – answered employer office address (thinking and typing ….. for around 1 min)
- Now he asked did you applied previously – ( I didn’t hear it properly and said no at first then he was like are you sure than I got what he was asking than I replied yes two times but was rejected, then he said those were student visa right I said yes)
- He asked me about like do you know all labour laws – I said yes
He was typing holding my I-797 and after 2 minutes he handed over my I-797 and again took 1 minute and finally said you will get you passport within 1 week
No questions asked other than this.

Experience 17: H1B+H4(Spouse+Kid) with In Person Interview at New Delhi
Profile: Employer is consultancy with client project.(no client letter but with itinerary of services b/w client and employer)
Biometrics: 7th Feb 2023 03:45PM
I was told there would be very huge queue for biometrics in Delhi and generally they would allow ahead of time.. We went before 1hr of appointment time.. Fortunately not much crowd that time.. They allowed us inside. So we were in by 2:50PM. They allowed to carry mobile which should be switched off. There was waiting area for accompying persons.. Gave our fingerprints and photos following queue, whole process finished in 20-30 mins.. so we came out by 03:20PM quite ahead of our actual appointment time..
Consular Interview: 8th Feb 2023, 11:10 AM..
As the previous day crowds was very less, we guessed we would be allowed earlier to interview also, so we reached US embassy by 09:15.Fortunately they allowed us to join the queue 2hrs ahead of appointment time.
There was big queue for lockers to store mobile/bags etc.. please try to avoid them..
After paper check, proceeded for security check, small glitch for us is that we had bank otp device in passport carrier which we didn’t realize till that time, so security checked couple of times to identify that and I have to go out to leave that outside.
After waiting in queue for 10 mins, we went for fingerprint check.. then we were asked to queue up for counter 18. VO is American middle aged lady. As soon as we queued up, I noticed that she refused visa for some F1 student. Then she approved 2 H1s before us. That gave some relief.. Finally my turn..
VO: Hi, Good Morning
Me: Hello , Good Morning
VO: Will your work with XYZ compnay?
Me: Yes..
VO: Is it Client project?
Me: Yes.
VO: Which department will you be working for?
Me: I work for IT department providing software consulting services for xyz client using xyz technologies..
VO: will you be working in xyz state in the US?
Me: yes.. I mentioned place and state name.
VO: What’s your salary?
Me: mentioned the one in LCA/offer letter.
VO: Is your highest qualification Masters/Bachelors?
Me: replied my qualification..
She checked something on her system for about a minute in silence.. then come’s the golden words.. your visa is approved and will receive the passport in a weeks time!!
No questions for dependent’s..
Same day(8th Feb) status was approved..
Next day (9th Feb) status was Issued..
Then I was checking the status daily till today 13th Feb no change in status.. Finally today morning(13th Feb) we received stamped passports!!
My suggestion from my experience is if you have the client letter that’s safe.. even if you don’t have and your employer is confident and suggest you to go for the interview.. prepare for all the possible questions and go for it..
Btw, i’m working outside of India but attended in India.. so I was expecting if they ask about that(anyways I prepared answer for that).. but looks like it’s not big deal for them.. I didn’t get any such question..
Experience 18: H1B with In Person Interview at Mumbai
Date : Feb 8th 2023 (Bio metric) Feb 10th 2023 (Interview – Mobile and Bag locker available but with me my parent came so I kept things with them.)
Time : Bio Metric – 9:00 AM and Interview – 9:00 AM
Bio metric duration : 2 mins
Interview duration : 5 mins (waiting time 90 mins)
Documents I carried : Passport, Appointment confirmation, DS160, i129, i797(only photocopy), LCA, Employer Offer letter, All experience certificates and academic certificate photo copies, client offer letter

Questions Asked 😊 before I greeted with Very good morning officer and he greeted me back very good morning, sir than I itself passed my passport for that he said thank you

No questions asked other than this and he took 1 minute and finally said your visa approved 
Some suggestion:
Be confident and calm.
Please reach as early as possible
Know about your employer and client (name, location, no of employees and business)

Experience 19: H1B with In Person Interview at Mumbai
In-house Project with Current Company
Biometric: Feb 9th, 2023. Slot: 9 am
Interview: Feb 10th, 2023. Slot: 8.40 am
Biometric: I went to Mumbai VAC at 8.15am and waited outside the gate. They allowed me in the queue at 8.30 am and came out at 9 am.
Documents I carried : Passport, Appointment letter, DS-160 Confirmation.
Interview: I went to Mumbai Consulate at 7.40 am and waited outside the gate. They allowed me in the queue at 8.10 am and came out at 9 am.
Documents I carried: Passport, Appointment Confirmation, DS-160 Confirmation, i129, i797 Original, LCA, Employer Offer letter, Consulate Letter, Employee itinerary, Employer Company docs featuring list of branches in US and tax forms,Project Documentation , All experience certificates and academic certificate photo copies
Documents VO asked : Passport, LCA, I797 (you will carry these docs in your hand after documents verification)

Me: Gave the passport and was waiting for next question.

VO: Your Visa is Approved and she gave US rights slip.
Me: With big smile, I said thanks officer.
Tips: Dress in Formal and Be confident while answering.
On the same day Feb 10th, Case status changed to “Approved”.
Feb 11th and 12th – Weekend.
Feb 13th – changed to Issued.
Feb 14th – Got SMS to my mobile and Email to collect my Passport. I have given Hyderabad as my pickup location.

Experience 20: H1B with In Person Interview at Mumbai
Today I had interview – 8:40 AM
Biometrics given yesterday- 10:30 AM ( there was mistake in my DS 160) I paid 3k for the corrections. Though the person attending me was very sweet enough to give me enough time to go correct it. But I thought I will do it in the browsing centre that’s inside the building).
Please check twice thrice before giving info on DS160.
This morning interview-
Reached at 7:40 , they let us inside at 9:05 only. Too crowded. Employees inside are very humble.
Waited inside for 10 mins until they let us in.
Standing in queue – there’s an officer for documents intake.
Documents- 1 -797
I 129
Client letter/MSA
Offer letter
After he checks the documents. He will send us for fingerprints .
Next we will stand in queue again until we are called ( translators are available incase you need them)

Very professional and patient officer –
He rejected few applications . But I didn’t pay much attention to all those. I was still prepping up for my turn!
I greeted him handed over my documents
He checked it for 1 minute and asked me these questions

Experience 21: H1B+H4(Spouse+Kid) with In Person Interview at New Delhi
I had my OFC on Feb-14th and interview on 15th Feb.
For OFC, we reached 2hrs before the appointment time. But we were allowed just 20mins before the appointment time.
But for interview, they allowed everyone at 8am who have 8am-11am appointment(s).
For OFC, mobiles are allowed but needs to be switched off.
But for interview, need to deposit mobiles and it took 15mins to deposit.
One lady got White slip just before me after 10mins of interview for her. She was from Consultancy. Hard luck!
Here is my interview experience.
VO: Good morning.
Me: Good morning, Officer!
VO: Can I have Passports + I797
Me: Here it is.
VO: Who is your current and future employer.
Me: My current and future employer are same and told the company name.
VO: What is your US salary?
Me: Answered.
VO: This is inhouse project?
Me: No, this is client project. In fact this is my current project/client as well which I have been working for some yrs from offshore.
VO: Tell me about your client.
Me: Explaining for 30secs+ (interrupted me in the middle).
VO: (asked spouse) What do you do in US?
Spouse: Homemaker
VO: Love marriage or Arranged marriage? How did you both meet?
Spouse: Explained.
VO: Do you have any close relatives in US?
Spouse: No.
VO: (To me) What is your working location?
Me: Answered.
She typed something and told your Visa has been approved.
Also I have valid B1 but chose interview so that H4 can also be completed at the same time.
Mine is MNC and client project. I carried client letter, SOW as well. But she did not ask them. My LCA does not have any client details also.
Same day(02/15) status changed to Approved.
Next day(02/16) Issued.
Received our stamped passports(02/18).
Experience 22: H1B+H4(Spouse+Kid) with In Person Interview at New Delhi
Status : Approved
Counter : 18
Biometrics – 8th Feb(5:15 PM)
Consulate – 9th Feb(8:45 AM)
Documents carried: Passports, DS160, I797, I129, LCA, Employee verification letter, Experience docs, payslips, Bank statments, Form 16, Education docs, Marriage Certificate, Child DOB
VAC:
Reached 1hr before and security team allowed us only with Docs file and phones(Should switch off) after verifying Appointment, passports, DS160.
Within 15 mins the Biometrics and Photo were taken, For Kid also they had taken photograph and asked us to carry a photograph to submit at interview.
Docs required: Passports, DS160, I797 and Appointment
Interview:
We reached by 7.30AM, phones are not allowed. Security team asked for the slot time and allowed us before the time slot.
Staff Outside the cabin has scanned the passport barcode.
Security check completed and entered to the hall. Team asked us to hold the documents Passports, DS 160, I797
Before interview once again they took fingerprints and checked passport, DS160 and I797 docs.
After that we waited for 10 mints in queue and finally it’s time for interview

Me: Good morning and passed all the documents
VO: Are you going to work for end client or employer?
Me: Answered
VO: what does your company do?
Me: explained
VO: what’s your salary in US?

Experience 23: H1B+H4(Spouse+2 Kids) with In Person Interview at Chennai
14 Feb – Biometrics. Appointment time is 10 AM. But reached there at 8.30AM. Allowed us inside at 9.15 AM. Paid 50 rp for locker. Biometrics counter upstairs. Since we were carrying our 11 months old kid, we were sent inside quickly. Submitted DS160, passport and appointment confirmation for all 4 of us. Left and right hand finger prints and photo taken. Sealed DS160 forms and asked us to leave. Overall time taken 10 mins in the biometrics counter. For my 6 years old kid, photo was taken and we submitted photo for our little one. Came out at 9.30 AM.
17 Feb VAC: Reached there at 7.30 AM for 9 AM appointment. No locker facility in the consulate however these auto walas are minting money by setting up a private locker inside an auto nearby. Charged inr 1000 for 2 mobile phones. Suggestion for attenders in chennai, please keep your phones at home or to the person who is accompanying you. Worst case, we need to rely on these auto walas only. Authorities may take some action against this daylight robbery and streamline the process, especially for people who are coming from other states. Rest of the things were allowed inside since we were carrying baby items. Allowed us inside at 8AM. Again carrying a baby is a cushion however can’t escape tight security procedures. Verified our passports,I797 in the first counter and then was sent inside to the English counter for H1B. They made me sit in a chair because I was holding my kid, while the rest were waiting in the queue, my husband also was in the queue. however sent us to the nearby counter for the interview.

How long are u working for your client
What is your job title there
Which place are you going to stay in US

To myself for h4:

Asked us if we went through the rights of our work in US and gave us a pamphlet to read the same. Kept our passports with her and said our visas are approved and we may collect the passports within a week. Gave us a green slip stating ” Your application has been approved! “.

Today I had interview – 8:50 AM
Biometrics given on 13th Feb. which went well without any issue. As i filled my DS160 form with all true information.
This morning interview-
Reached at 8:00 , they let us inside at 8:30 only. Too crowded. Employees inside are very humble.
