Experience 1: Regular Slot | B1/B2 | MUMBAI Consulate

Interview – Sep 7 2022

They had requested for a Hindi translator. So all the questions were asked in Hindi.

  3. Where does daughter work, stay and what’s her visa?
  4. What do you do for a living?
  5. Do you own the hotel or work as an employee? (My father has a fast food shop)
  6. Do you have any property in india?
  7. Do you have any other relatives in the US?
  8. Who’s sponsoring your trip?

Your visa is approved.

No questions asked to my Mom. No documents were asked.


Experience 2: Regular Slot | B2 | Hyderabad Consulate

Status : Approved

Slot booked in May 2022
Language of Interview – English
Location – Hyderabad
September 6 2022 – Biometrics
September 7 2022 – CA
Appointment was for my Dad and Mom.

They were asked if they need a translator. Dad said either English or Telugu any language is fine. There was a Telugu translator available in the counter already.

Questions:

Who is paying for the trip?
What are you doing currently (my dad’s retired)
How many kids and where they both live?
Asked to show daughter’s Visa documents

Your visas are approved.

Have a wonderful trip.


Experience 3: Regular Slot | B2 | Chennai Consulate

Slots booked: May end 2022

Visa Status : Approved
Biometrics: Sep -2-2022
Docs asked : DS-160 confirmation, Appointment confirmation and valid original passports

Interview: Sep-7-2022
Time: 8:00 AM (but went inside around 7:45 and came out from consulate at 8:35 AM)
Docs asked : original valid passport only
Interpreter provided : VO knows Tamil language it seems

Questions asked:
To dad:

  1. Purpose of visit
  2. Who is there in the US and what’s their visa status
  3. How many kids you have
  4. What do you do

To Mom:

  1. What do you do

Finally VO gave green slip (for approval) and asked to collect the passport in a week’s time

Thanks for this group and wonderful persons who alerted this group on May 2022 when bulk slots were opened and because of which I was able to book a slot after 20 months or so.

Experience 4: Regular Slot | B2 | Mumbai Consulate

My mom dads visa got approved 🎉🎉

No docs asked only passport
They requested for Hindi translator.

Q) why are you going?
A) My daughter is having first baby due in few days so we want to meet our family and welcome grandchild.

Q) who is sponsoring?
A) We are doing tickets. Rest will be taken care by daughter

Q) what’s your annual income?
A) my dad answered this

Q) how many other kids? Are they in India ?

Q) what’s your occupation ?
A) Family business.

Q) To my mom: Are you home maker

Q) what does your son-in law- do?

Q) will you two go together?
A) My mom said I will go for now, dad will join in December and then my father added, I will join them for Christmas.

Then Translator said “ap Jane ki tayyari kijiye , your visa is approved “

FYI: I had gotten the appointment in May, when bulk slots were open. Regular appointment


Experience 5: Regular Slot | B2 | Chennai Consulate

My moms B2 is approved today. I booked appointment in English but she was given a Tamil interpreter.
Questions asked:
Why are you going to the USA?
Who is there in the USA?
Is your daughter married?
How many children does your daughter have?
How many children you have?
Do you have any asset in India?

After all the answers, she was given green slip and was told that her Visa is approved.

Don’t worry if you have selected English as interview language but your parents know only regional language. Looks like Consular is arranging the interpreter based on the location and local language.


Experience 6: Regular Slot | B1 / B2 | Mumbai Consulate

I recently attended the interview at Mumbai Consulate. B1/B2 Visa Approved Hooray…..
Sharing my experience for everybody’s benefit.

  1. In Mumbai they even accept request for a translator then and there. One family changed from Hindi to Marathi in front of me. Very nice and helpful staff at the Consulate.
    Questions & papers asked for:
  2. No papers asked except passport
  3. What’s the purpose of your visit?
  4. Where does your son work?
  5. He is on which Visa?
  6. What do you do? In my case I have recently superannuated. Told so.
  7. What did you do before that?
  8. Are you married? Yes
  9. Is your wife going with you? Yes
  10. What about her visa? She already has.
  11. How much time you’ll stay there.

Okay. Your Visa is approved.

Experience 7: Regular Slot | B2 | Delhi Consulate

My father visa was approved today. No other document checked except passport
Language – English (Hindi translators were available if required)

Questions:
Why you are going to US?
Who is there in US from your family?
What your son is doing in US?
Which visa is on?
What do you do for living?
Who is sponsoring the visa?
How long you are planning to stay?
Do you have any other children?
Do you have any property?

Okay. Your visa is approved.

Wish everyone best of luck. My father noticed that the VO approved all 3 before him so rate of approval seems to be good.


Experience 8: Regular Slot | B2 | Hyderabad Consulate

My mother and brother visa was approved on 6th. No other document checked except passport
Language – Hindi (translator was available, but since my brother was comfortable with English, they asked him to translate)

Questions:

  1. Why you are going to US, where and How long will you stay there ?
    visit my sister and brother in law in xyz city and tourism.
  2. Who is there in US from your family?
    sister and brother in law
  3. What your sister and brother in law do in US?
    Sister is engineer in xyz company.
    Brother in law is a researcher in xyz university.

4.Which visa are they on and how long have they been there ? Sister is on L1, she went november last year. brother in law on F1, he has been there for over 5 years.

5.What do you do ?
My brother said, he is a student and handles family rental business part time.

When did you start college and when will it complete?
My brother said, he has exams in December.

6.Do you have any other sibling ? What does he do?
Elder brother, engineer in xyz company.

7.Do you have any property?
Yes.

All questions were asked to my brother, none to my mother. VO asked no documents for invitation, finances etc.

VO: Your visa is issued.


Experience 9: Regular Slot | B1 | New Delhi Consulate

Visa Applied – B1 – Business
8 th Sept, 10 AM
Language – English

They asked to make a queue at about 9.30 AM for people with appointment at 9.40, 9.50 and 10 AM. After checking by guards got inside the embassy and then it is queue and queue only. Earlier when I started in queue there were 4 windows used for interviews and they became 2 later so I got my turn at 11 AM.

Questions:

  1. What is the purpose of your trip?
  2. Where you will go and how long you will stay?
  3. What is your current job and which company?
  4. Have you been to USA earlier?
  5. Why you stayed for 3 months in your business trip?
  6. Who will pay your expenses?

The lady never asked for any document except by latest passport.

The last sentence were please put 4 fingers of your left hand on scanner. Your visa is approved.


Experience 10: Regular Slot | B2 | Mumbai Consulate

Visa applied – tourist
9th sept 7:50 am
Language – English
Fresh application

Questions:
Why do u wana visit us
Whr are u travelling to us
How many days are u travelling to us
Why do u wana go to Washington DC
How long are u married
What do u do me nd my wife same question
Can I c ur old passports
For how many days r u travelling

The officer dint ask for any documents just asked for old passport and checked the recent passport
The final sentence told by the officer to place left hand fingers nd right hand fingers of my wife on the scanner your visa is approved.


Experience 11: Regular Slot | B2 | Mumbai Consulate

Visa applied – tourist
9th sept 7:50 am
Language – gujrati (opted for translator at the counter)
Fresh application
Biometrics was done 1.5 yr ago before lockdown in old passport. So took them 30mins at the counter to update the ds 160 n etc.

There was only 1 counter for language interview and the same person was doing hindi marathi gujrati.they were inside by 8am and were 1st applicant for regional language interview

Questions asked to 1st applicant.nothing to mom

Why do u want to visit USA
Whr are u travelling
How many days?
What does your daughter and son in law do ?
Is she pregnant ?
How many days will you stay ?
Any other children?
What do u do for living

The officer didnt ask for any documents just asked for old passport.
Both the passport are with them old and new


Experience 12: Regular Slot | B2 | Chennai Consulate

My visa got approved today.

Biometric: 7sep
Reached exactly on time. Allowed inside immediately after checking visa appointment. Security asked to switch off mobile, but told smart watch not allowed. so I assume mobile is allowed for biometric. We had not taken any electronic things.
Documents required: visa appointment letter, ds-160 confirmation letter, passport.
They check name and other details in passport with ds-160 letter thoroughly. They sent back a person where there is spelling mismatch.
Four fingers of each hand, thumbs scan will be taken.
Photo will be taken. I had let my hair loose. She gave me a rubber band and asked me to tie the hair so that face is clearly visible. So ladies better to tie their hair!
Whole process took 20 minutes. There were 7-8 people as ahead of us.

Consular appointment:
Reached 40 minutes early. Allowed inside compound after 5 min wait.
B2 visa for me and my husband who is working.
Son in usa with F1.
Passport checked and in line for 30 minutes before we reached window.
My husband was asked all questions and no questions to me.
Why are you going to usa
What is your son doing
What is his age
Is he only child
When are you planning to travel
Your Visa is approved.
Scanned our fingers.
They were very patient and polite towards couple going for B2 Visa.


Experience 13: Regular Slot | B2 | Mumbai Consulate

Here goes the interview experience of my parents and in-laws.

When: 8th and 9th September
Language: Hindi
Docs: No documents asked.
Locker: 500 fee on 8th and 50 fee on 9th
Who: My parents, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.
Status: Visa approved.

Questions to my brother-in-law:

  • Where are you going?
  • Which state are you going to? And which places you will be visiting in that state?
  • Who is sponsoring trips?
  • Where does your sister live in the USA?
  • Do you have an immediate family in India?
  • How long are you planning to stay in the US?
  • What do you do?
  • What does your sister (my wife) do?
  • Have you travelled internationally before?
  • Have you ever been detained?

Questions to my father:

  • What do you do?
  • How long will you stay in the US?
  • Do you have any immediate relatives in India? Ans: Daughter
  • What does your daughter do?
  • Where does she live in India?

Questions to mother and mother-in-law:

  • Do you have any immediate relatives in India? And what do they do?

Experience 14: Regular Slot | B2 | Mumbai Consulate

September 9: They asked on their own after entering if Marathi translator was required and split the group into different lines.

Q) Purpose of visit?
A) Visiting daughter and son-in-law, they are expecting a baby

Q) Where does your daughter stay?
A) Gave city name

Q) what visa is she on?
A) Showed print of visa copy (H4). No questions about primary applicant

Q) How long are you planning to stay?
A) 3-4 months

Q) who is sponsoring?
A) I will pay for tickets, rest of the expenses daughter will take care (no questions about daughter’s job/son-in-law’s job/income etc)

Q) What family do you have in India?
A) Younger son and husband

Q) Do you have a house in India?
A) Yes

Visa is approved, passport will be mailed in 1 week

My mother asked if she can book tickets, VO said yes, and congratulations to your daughter, enjoy time with your grandchild

My Mother is central govt employee and had received 221g + clearance received annotation during her last visa interview (2017). This time, they didn’t ask for NOC/any other employment details (she is still working). Overall, very fast and hassle-free process at Mumbai. Just waiting to see now when passport will be delivered and what will be visa duration provided.

I have obtained H4 visa, H1B visa, and B1/B2 visa for me and my family at various times all in last 1 year, gone through travel ban, NIE, everything. Experience 15: Regular Slot | B2 | New Delhi Consulate

Interview experience of my Mom: Booking Date: 26May ( Bulk opening date)

Biometrics: 8 Sep

Hassle free.process at VFS. Lot of officers available to help elderly. Was asked to go on 3rd floor for lift for fingerprinting and photograph

CA Interview : 09 Sep Time: 9:50am. Language: English

Was only allowed to enter at 9:45am.Hence, no point going early for CA atleast.

Lot of rush and a huge line of people outside the main gate waiting to enter. No major waiting area available for elderly.

Only 4 windows out of 22 were working. Basic questions were asked.

Purpose of visit
Who lives in the US
Who is the sponsor
Who many kids
Does any kid live in India

VO kept passport and today the status changed to “Approved “. Waiting for email now for passport collection.

Experience 16: Regular Slot | B2 | Mumbai Consulate

Visa interview experience of my Mom-
Booked appt in May end
CA interview- Sept 1st week

Questions asked:-
What is the purpose of your visit to USA ?
How old is your grand child?
What is your daughter’s name ?
What visa is your daughter on ?
What does your son in law do?
How many years have they been there?
What do you do?
What does your husband do?
Who is going to bear your expenses?
Where are going to stay in USA?
How long have you been living in the current residence ?
Are there any other family members?
Have you traveled before?

Visa Approved

Imp info- To keep mobile phones they charge Rs 500 at Biometrics centre and Rs 50 at embassy in Mumbai. Please plan accordingly. As I wasn’t aware of this and we ended up paying for it. Thought it was unnecessary but had no choice.


Experience 17: Regular Slot | B2 | Hyderabad Consulate

My parents visa got approved today 9/13 at 8:15 AM

Booked in English but asked for Tamil translator at VO window ( all language translator are available in Hyderabad as per their information)

Questions asked

Who is there in US?

Who sponsored your travel?

What is your Daughter doing?What visa she is in US?

Do you have any properties in india? What are they? No documents asked

How many children do you have?

What is your Son doing?

VO said your visa is Approved.

You will get passport in 10 days.

Experience 18: Regular Slot | B1/ B2 | Kolkata Consulate

Me and wife visa got approved today at Kolkata (8:15 AM)

Booked in English

A. Stuff related to fam business

Are you married?
A. Pointed towards my wife on the left😂

How many days are you planning to go?
A. We already had tickets and was written in ds160 already so no worries

VO said your visa is approved and you will get it in a week.

In all no docs were asked

We reached gate at 7.45 and came out 8.30.
Interview was 1-2 min max.
People said they are asking for invitation letter at the waiting area but I found it was only for people having applied for B1/B2 for conference and stuff. We just said plain tourism and nothing.


Experience 19: Regular Slot | B1/ B2 | Mumbai Consulate

Biometrics : 11th September, 2022 at Mumbai @ 2pm

Visa Interview : 14th September, 2022- 8am at 24th Booth
VO- white tall lady

Visa Status : Approved

Experience 21: Regular Slot | B2 | Chennai Consulate

Here is the experience for my Mom’s B2 visa on sep 12.

Sep 9 : Biometrics went fine and smoothly. My mom knows only telugu and in chennai biometric there are few people who knows telugu and they helped her.

Sep 12:
Reached at 7:15 am and slot was at 8 am.
They sent inside at 7:30 am.

Mom : Good morning sir!
VO: good morning, passport please.
VO: who is sunil kumar and what is the relation?( gave sponsor as my name in ds160)
Mom: mom understand my name and replied Sunil is my son.
VO: asked something in english
Mom: I don’t know English, telugu translator please( have taught this to my mom and sent)
Translator in telugu : Why are you going US?
Mom: Answered
Translator : How many children do you have?
Mom : Answered
Translator : Do your son has any children?
Mom : Answered
Tr: Do you have any properties here in india?
Mom : Answered
VO; visa approved

Passport delivered today( 14th sep) to chennai address.

Experience 22: Regular Slot | B2 | Hyderabad Consulate

Interview experience for B2 visa for my mom

Status – Approved

Biometrics – 09/11 and it went well

Documents asked – appointment letter, Ds160 confirmation, passport

No photos and other documents needed.

Consulate interview – 15th Sept 8.45 am at Hyderabad

She checked for Malayalam translator before getting into the counter and they told translator is not available for Malayalam. So she went for English.

Once she reached the counter she requested for Malayalam translator to VO and the VO was really helpful in arranging one for her.

Questions asked

  1. Who is sponsoring your trip ?
  2. Which state you are going?
  3. How many days you’re planning to stay?
  4. How many children do you have?
  5. Your daughter is in which visa?

No documents were checked (Although had all documents like proof of funds from bank, letter to consulate, invitation letter etc)

Thanks to everyone in this group. Without your help it would have been a difficult task even to get the appointment.


Experience 23: Regular Slot | B2 | Mumbai Consulate

Biometrics on 14th September 2022.
Scheduled at 11.30AM. Reached at 11.11AM and was allowed inside right away. Because of a small mistake I needed to fill my DS-160 again. Allowed to go out and come back by 1.00PM. Was done with new form submission by 11.55. Went in at 12.00. Done with photo and biometrics and was out by 12.10.
Interview at Mumbai Consulate scheduled for today at 8.00 Am. Allowed to go in at 7.30AM. Done with frisking and security check and all. Language opted English. Even telgu translators were available at Mumbai. Went in front of the officer at 8.35 AM.

Where she is staying?? (Name of the city)

Who is sponsoring?? “My dad”

Entrance from back side of the mentioned building
Allowed to enter according to timeslot
Any electronic item not allowed if u have locker system is available but at a cost of 500..
Individual process for each member of family
Each should have passport and DS 160 confirmation out with them and one appointment confirmation is enough
After passport and DS 160 verification token was given and asked to wait in Queue
When the token number gets displayed, visit the counter

Full name and Birthdate for verification
Photo clicked
Fingure prints taken
One sticker pasted at back of passport
Asked to visit 15-20 minutes before the scheduled interview time
(For my mother – Asked the language comfortable in she said Hindi)

Process for the day completed

US Consultant Family interview

Asked to wait until the time slot was announced
After our timeslot was announced had to wait in Queue
One member of the family to keep passports of all family members
After verification wait in next Queue to enter embassy
Just at the entry we have a counter to submit electronic item at a cost of 50
After submitting we entered the embassy
On entering scanning of documents and belongings
Next verification of passport in a counter all family members together in one counter together
Asked for preferred language – We said Hindi
Next there were different queues for English and Language (any other language other than english)
We waited in the Language Queue
Once our turn came
My parents and me visited the counter
Hindi translator was present

Questions Asked to Father-

  1. Purpose of Visit ?
  2. What type of employment you have? – Replied Business
    Business of what ?
  3. What does your daughter do in US ?
  4. Where does she live in US ?
  5. How long will be your stay ?
  6. Do you own any house in India ?

  1. What is your age ?
  2. What is the type of employment ?
  3. I replied job , then asked what type of company it is – I replied IT company
  4. So you are going to visit ur Sister haan ? – I said yes

Questions asked to Mother –

  1. What kind of employment if any ? – she replied (No Housewife)

Experience 25: Regular Slot | B2 | Hyderabad Consulate

My mother’s B2 Visa Interview Experience –

OFC – Sep 2nd
CA – Sep 15th

Initial appointment booked in English. At consulate my mother asked for Telugu translator and they redirected her to Translator queue.At Consulate everyone was very helpful and friendly.

Questions:

  1. What’s the purpose of visiting US?
  2. Where is ur son staying?
  3. which Visa your son holding?
  4. How many kids you have?
  5. Where is ur daughter?
  6. Do have any assets in India?
  7. Have you visited Singapore 5-6 times? (My mom visited Singapore for couple of times when we were in Singapore)

  2. Photos
  3. Appointment confirmation letter
  4. DS-160 confirmation letter
  5. My brothers I797 and I94

Below are supporting documents:

  1. His recent payslips
  2. His W2 forms for 2 yrs

Visa Approved!

I am very grateful to this group as I was able to get slot for my mother in May when the bulk slots were opened. We were waiting since 2020..
