We applied for B1 B2 visitor visa with our consular appointment at Delhi on 12th September.
We got our visa approved for 10yrs.
Points to note for those who have upcoming appointments..
In Biometric appointment; they allow the phone to be carried along but it needs to be switched off
In consular appointment; they have a locker facility at rs.50 for each mobile/ smart watch
It takes roughly half an hour in biometrics and about an hour in consular appointment

Experience 3: Regular Slot | B1 | NEW DELHI Consulate
Location : New Delhi
Date: 22nd September, 2023
OFC at Hyderabad, Appointment at 3 PM
They take people in at every 30 mins interval.
So chances are that you are taken in 30 mins before time.
No phones, smartwatches allowed.
Multiple lockers just outside the center at @INR 125.
They update the new DS160 if you have another submission.
Takes a max of 10-15 mins.
VAC at Delhi – 22 Sep, Appointment at 10 AM
Reached at 8.30 AM and was put in queue.
Phones, smartwatches not allowed.
There is a locker but there is a slightly long queue.
INR 50 for each device.
Questions asked
Why are you traveling to the US? – Business meeting
Visa approved. You will get it in 7 days.
End to end took 1 hour, 15 mins.
It was a B1 visa sponsored by my company.
People in front of me had quite a few questions – no rejections that I saw today.

Experience 6: Regular Slot | B1/B2 | CHENNAI Consulate

Hi, visa for my family was approved on 25th Sept in Chennai and got the passport delivered today (28th) through Blue dart. Sharing the details. Had applied for B2(Tourism) visa for my parents, wife and 6 yr old son. I had applied when the slots opened in Mar 2023. I had booked the appointment on the old portal and had got an ack mail. To be on the safer side,had created the account in the new portal and all details from the old portal was available in the new portal as well. So didn’t have any issues in the new portal. I had taken the appointment confirmation from the new portal as well.
I already had a business visa, so needed for my family. My cousin stays in US and I had got an invite letter from him.
Biometrics( 24th Sept, Sunday afternoon)
Was straightforward. They allow about 15-30 mins prior to the appointment. They verify the docs, take photo and biometrics. Took about 30 mins. No issues reported in the form.
Consular( 25th Sept 10 AM, Monday morning)
Went inside at 9:45 AM. We had taken kannada translator. One observation was that the queue for applicants with kannada translator was less compared to other languages.
Questions to my parents:

Who is there in US?
How long your relative(in this case it was my cousin) is there in US?
What is he doing?
Is he on green card?
Who is sponsoring your trip?
Do you have property here in India?
What is your source of income?

Questions to my wife

Where and what is your nature of the job?
Have you travelled to any other country before?
Is your husband travelling with you?
Does he have a visa?

They didn’t ask any docs. We had taken property docs, invite letter, my passport(in case they wanted to check which visa I hold), employment letter from my wife’s company, 6 months bank statement of mine and my father, my 3 months payslip and a letter that I had written with my visa details and requesting for visa to my family.
Lasted for 5 mins. Visa was approved. They went in around 9:45AM and came back around 10:20 AM.
One suggestion is to prepare the list of questions and keep the answer ready and be honest. Answer to the point and not elaborate unless asked by the consular officer. Sometimes we may know the answer but may get tensed. Preparing like this will help.

Experience 7: Regular Slot | B1/B2 | CHENNAI Consulate

I had been for Visa Councellor interview (B1/B2), Visa got approved. The process was quick.
You need to report before your stipulated time. And then you will have time till 12 o’clock to attend the interview inside. Once you report on time then even if you have other slots they will proceed with interviewing you.
Questions asked:
- Why are you going to US?
- Who is sponsoring your trip?
- Are you married?
- How many kids do you have?
- Whats your designation?
- Whats your monthly salary?
He asked to keep your 4 fingers on the biometric device, Then he said your Visa is approved. You will get it in 7 days.
Note: No phones allowed inside.
There are no lockers available to keep your phones. Local auto people will loot you asking 2000 Rupees to keep your phone. I became a victim of it and paid 2k. Please do not bring your phone to councellor interview.
Auto people also will loot you asking 500 Rupees for 1km. So it is what it is.
Experience 8: Regular Slot | B1/B2 | CHENNAI Consulate in Malayalam

Hi All..my parents visa got approved today at consulate.
They self sponsored their visa however nothing related to financial proof were asked.
Did not take more than 10 mins overall.
It was a moving queue and once inside the consulate building, the staff came asking for any malayalam speakers and took them to the booth as they were the only malayalam speaking candidates
Questions :

2 . How long is ur daughter in the us? - Is this ur elder or younger daughter?
4.how many children u have ? - Is ur younger daughter with u ?
- When did ur daughter get married.
Translator informed Visa approved n u will be recieveing it in a week times.
Experience 9: Regular Slot | B1/B2 | MUMBAI Consulate
Location : Chennai
Date: 15th February, 2023
Biometric interview – 13th Feb, 12 pm
So there are two different companies managing stuff at the centre. VFS manages the biometrics inside, but some private company named “Next Destination” manages everything outside like lockers for keeping cellphone or smartphone, or taking printouts etc of any of the forms.
Everything was chaotic outside the biometric hall, as the staff didn’t have clear instructions. Guards outside keep asking people to fall in line. That’s about it!! If you ask them why isn’t the line moving, they would say- we don’t know. If you tell them, I am coming back after some correction in form, they would say, you can’t go inside directly, even when the VFS staff inside might have asked to come inside directly. Nobody wears id cards, so you can’t tell the guards outside that so and so person had asked to come inside directly. VFS staff won’t tell you clearly what all shortcomings are there and everytime you have to follow the line of 20-30 people
“Next destination” charges Rs 400 for keeping mobile phone/smartwatch for 1-2 hours. I found it quite abhorrent, provided that the place where they keep the phones/smartwatch is just like shoe racks we find outside temples.
My DS160 had expired as it had a validity of 1 year. Ideally it was the responsibility of VFS to inform, but I didn’t get any intimation. On 13th Feb 2023, my DS160 application had crossed 1 year by 3 days. So, I had to fill it up again. The same private company Next destination, has a provision of editing and creating a new DS160. But the catch here is that they would ask Rs 3000 for creating this new application. The amount is just insane and is nothing short of loot! I asked them if they can give a printout, that is, if I fill up the DS160 application again myself on my phone They said they can give a printout, but at Rs 400 per page. World’s costliest printout!!
Plus the staff from VFS inside was highly unprofessional, worse than SBI. They randomly left the counter for “lunch”. This lunch spanned for anything from 1-2 hours, due to which the lines didn’t move much from 12.30 to 1.45. Though if you ask them, they would say that lunch is for 30 mins, but the staff would just hide somewhere inside and chit chat. By the time I had reached the counter for fingerprint at 2 pm, I was totally exhausted!! If somebody would ask them why there was no one at the counter for more than an hour or why just 1 counter was functional for the last 1 hour when hundreds are waiting in queue outside, they would talk rudely and say “jo karna hain kar lo”. Clearly, goons/ mafia from VFS are managing this and it looks like US embassy/consulate is unaware of this whole fiasco.
Consulate interview, 15th Feb, 1 pm
At the consulate, things were highly organised and crowd management was really good. At a time they were managing crowds upto 5000 people but it was being very nicely done. I didn’t carry the phone this time, so didn’t have to submit it at the locker, but they were charging Rs 50 only, which is very genuine I feel.
Once you enter the hall, they cross check your fingerprints once again to ensure you are the same person who went for the biometric.
They will next ask you about the language of interview and assign you to a line. Mine was English so there were more counters to serve it. In the interview, the following questions were asked –
- Why do you want to go to the US?
- How many family members of yours are currently in the US?
- For how long do you plan to visit the US?
- Have you travelled to any other country before?
- What do you do in India ? Your designation?
- What’s your monthly income?
- Do you plan to settle down in the US in future?

Hello All,
My parents visa got approved today at Hyderabad consulate. Their interview is at 8:00 AM. Requested for Telugu translator while they were in the queue.

Experience 11: Regular Slot | B1/B2 | MUMBAI Consulate
Our visa got approved today at Mumbai consulate. The interview was at 10:50 AM.
Questions asked to Me:
1) what’s your purpose of the visit?
2) what does your sister do?what company is she working for?
3) where does she stay in the US
4) what do you do?
5) do you own any stakes in the company you work?(since my designation is product owner at work)
6) where have you travelled outside India as a couple

The officer informed us that the visa has been approved. It took us approximately 2 hours for the entire process.
Experience 12: Regular Slot | B1/B2 | MUMBAI Consulate
Location : Mumbai
Date: 20th October, 2023
Sharing my and parents interview experience.
Appointment time was 10:40am. We reached at 9:45 am, we didn’t take our phone, but there is locker facility of 50rs per mobile. Entered embassy around 9:45 am and were already out by 11:00am.I highly recommend getting yourself/parents prepared for all questions and ready answers.

Experience 13: Regular Slot | B2 | CHENNAI Consulate in Telugu
Location : Chennai
Date: 11th October, 2023
Appointment was at 10 am.
Went inside around 8:45 am.
Came out around 10:45 am. Telugu translator. Telugu line was a lot of wait in chennai today. Have seen english folks coming out within 20 mins. Other languages were faster as well.
Questions asked:
Where are you going to in usa?
How many sons do you have?
What properties do you have in india?
Did not ask for any docs.
I was there and my mom did not carry anything inside. So did not use any lockers. I did not see any locker facility. But saw people leaving stuff with autowalas. Saw them not allowing phones. Saw lady asking people to remove watches and put them in their folder.
Stayed in Ibis hotel.

Experience 14: Regular Slot | B2 | CHENNAI Consulate in English

Hello, Happy to say our visa got approved at consulate today.
Appointment was at 9 am ,allowed inside at 8.45 am and came out at 9.15 am.
Long queues,but the English one was moving faster.

What is our occupation…I am a government medical officer.
That’s it, said visa approved. Took fingerprints of left hand for both of us. No documents asked, lasted for about 2 min .

Normal checkup carried on different stages basically the slip pasted by the biometric staff at VFS
No electronic gadgets allowed at the beginning the staff advised to leave
For the VO interview the security staff asked to choose your language of interview
We reached in front of the interview window at
where staff suggested to keep the copy of passport and visa of the person whom you are going to visit along with your passport and handover to the VO
Our turn came at 08.05am
Routine and simple questions asked by the vo:
Where are you going
Where is your son working
Duration of stay
I am a retired person, so asked when did you retired
He ascertained the genuinity of the person by checking the biometrics
That’s all and he said your visa is approved
No documents asked and even not checked copies of my son’s pp and visa
In general no rejections seen, there were more than 10 widows opened
No cloak room and no arrangement to keep the valuables
No waiting room facility, applicants have to wait on the way

My suggestion is don’t stress your self and if not heaven will not fall

Sharing my parents interview experience.
Appointment time was 11:10am. They reached at 10am, put their phone in the locker(more like a shelf area behind a counter) and paid 50rs per phone. Entered embassy aprund 10:10am and were already out by 10:45am. There were not a lot of people there compared to what they have experienced in mumbai in 2018 when they first applied. Which makes me thing that they are definitely not running at full capacity yet and that is why the long delays for slots.
They had applied in 2018 but it got rejected because of some miscommunication because of the translator. I had not prepared them for the interview questions that time. This time i took their mock interview multiple times so they don’t have to think about their answers and have all pre decided answers ready at the tip of their tounge. I highly recommend getting yourself/parents prepared for all questions and ready answers.

They did not ask anything to my mom.
This time he did not take translator and said Visa officer did not have American accent so ot was really easy to understand him. There were other visa offers who could themselves speak in hindi.
Experience 19: Regular Slot |B1/B2| NEW DELHI Consulate
Location : New Delhi
Date: 2nd November, 2023
My Parents Biometric interview experience:
1)allowed to stand in queue according to time slot for verification of passport ds 160 and confirmation of appointment
2)while in queue five to six people were comming to candidiates for checking and requesting to proceed further
3)at entrance one more person check and asked to proceed for biometic. There were about 12 counters to do biometrics
4) Biometrics and Photo taken
5) they check passport and put sticker with ds 160 and return all papers
Consular Appointment :
1) told to deposit mobile etc charges ₹50 per phone 20 minutes.
2) Security check ladies and gents separate queue.
3) directed both to go for passport verification and finger print only one hand took 15 minutes approx

Experience 20: Regular Slot |B1/B2| KOLKATA Consulate
Location : Kolkata
Date: 9th November, 2023
Visa experience of myself, parents and sister:
We stayed at homestay Hazra, 2.5 km from biometric and consulate office (10 minutes by Ola)
Biometric : 8th Nov, 9:30 AM, try to reach by 30 minutes prior to schedule.
Locker available next to office by paying 50/-
Just biometric and done.
Document: form DS160, passport appointment confirmation from new portal (if old please consider migration, some people stuck because of no migration done in new portal, mine was migrated so process was very smooth and done in no time). 9:30 AM was schedule and 9:45 we were done with everything.
Visa Interview: 9th November, 9:15 AM, try to reach by 1 hr prior to schedule,
Locker available just opposite to consulate by paying 100/-
We all 4 went together for interview (I’ve used one login for all 4, me as main applicant and my 3 dependents as my mom, dad and sister), as I was there they told us translator not required.
Documents: form DS160, passport appointment confirmation from new portal That’s it (but we kept all the required documents, though they haven’t asked a single documents but it’s safe to kept all the required ones, as they were asking to show to some people randomly)

It was very light interview, kept all 4 passports and Then he told with smile your visa will be ready soon. I’ve opted for prime delivery, hope it will be reach to my mentioned address soon.
No single questions from my parents. Only one question from my sister and rest of the questions I’ve answered on behalf of them.
Interview time duration: 3-5 minutes. 9:15 was schedule and 9:30 we were done with everything.
Experience 21: Regular Slot |B1/B2| KOLKATA Consulate

Mother-in-law B1/B2 consular interview experience:
My Mother-in-law knows only Telugu language.
Emergency visa. Approved.
No Telugu translator. They allowed a companion as a translator after filling out an application.
It seems that there would be a South Indian language interpreter every day. But, on the day of our interview, only Tamil interpreter was available. Telugu interpreter would be available

Experience 24: Regular Slot |B1/B2| NEW DELHI Consulate
Location : New Delhi

No Lockers in Delhi US Embassy…but the opportunity for keeping your phones have been taken by a guard and a soft-drink Thela-wala…Rs 100/- per phone. No receipt, but yes you do get your phone back.
After 2 hours wait and several security checks interview lasted all of 2 mins.

- Why are you wanting Visa now (told them that we want to meet my son)
- What does he do there: PhD. (Another follow up question..in what etc).
- So you are a key account director and you are a librarian (looking wifey). And Yes.
- Okay, your Visas are approved..

It took me more time to type out the matter here.
Experience 25: Regular Slot |B1/B2| NEW DELHI Consulate
