Any person planning to travel to the US must undergo a visa interview process at the US embassy/consulate. As part of the visa interview process, the US Consular officer reviews all the submitted documents and information and decides whether to approve or reject the visa for that individual.
If the US Consular officer does not have clarity about a document or any aspect of your application and they are not convinced to approve the visa, they may issue a visa refusal form 221(g) and inform the applicant regarding the same and inform, if additional documents need to be submitted.
This article will review all the details around US visa refusal under section 221(g), what administrative processing is, what to expect, how long it can take, what the color of the 221g form indicates, and other common FAQs.
What is 221(g) in the context of US Visa Stamping?
When the US Consular officer determines that additional processing is required before deciding on your US visa issuance, they issue a letter that reads, “Your visa application has been refused under section 221(g) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act(INA)…“. This letter is called 221(g) Form or 221(g) Administrative Processing Form.
Depending on the US Consulate, this US Visa refusal 221(g) letter can be printed on different paper colors, such as yellow, green, pink, blue, or white. The US Visa refusal letter 221(g) form will have additional instructions on what the US Consular officer expects to do or expects the applicant to submit.
Below is an example of a US Visa Refusal Form 221(g) issued at Hyderabad for H1B Visa recently in December 2024

Why is a US Visa Refusal Form 221(g) issued? Common Reasons?
The US visa applicant may be issued a US Visa Refusal form 221(g) in a few scenarios. There is no comprehensive list of reasons for issuing 221(g). Below are some of the common reasons the visa applicants can get it:
- Background Check or Security Screening: If the US Visa applicant has a common Muslim name or is working in an industry like pharmaceutical, biotech, engineering, etc., that’s there on TAL (Technology Alert List) or has a name that matches with any security lists that US Department of State has, they may be issued a 221(g) form.
- Employment Check: If the applicant is applying for a US work visa, they want to ensure their employment is genuine. Usually, in scenarios where the visa applicant is working for a consulting company and the officer wants to ensure that the submitted client/project information is correct or wants to check if the submitted details about the employer are accurate, the US consular officer may issue the 221(g) administrative Processing form.
- Dropbox Applicants (Visa Renewals): If an applicant is applying for US Visa renewal using the Dropbox option, they may be issued a US Visa Refusal 221(g) form indicating that they need to attend the in-person appointment. In this case, the consular officer wants to talk to the applicant. Sometimes, it is also given for submitting additional documents.
- Petitioner Information Management Service(PIMS) Not updated: The Consular officer can also issue the 221(g) form if their systems are not updated for whatever reason and they need to verify the same. The Consular Officers use a PIMS system to get all the work visa-related petition information from USCIS for various visa types. The Consular officer puts the visa processing on hold until the data is updated for them to verify.
- Consular Officer Needs Time to Understand: They may issue a 221(g) if the consular officer needs time to understand more about the applicant or the area of expertise of the visa applicant and what they are seeking a visa for. For instance, if the applicant is a researcher in nuclear physics and the visa officer has limited knowledge in that area, the visa officer may issue 221(g) to understand more about the applicant and their purpose before issuing the visa.
- Past US Visa History: If the visa officer finds any inconsistencies with the information presented by you and it does not match with past visa history of the applicant either approvals or refusals, then the applicant may get 221g.
- General Administrative Processing: Sometimes, there may be cases where the Consular officer believes some additional details have to be verified or checked with their internal systems, then they may issue the 221(g) for general administrative processing. Usually, if they expect something from the applicant, they will ask the applicant and indicate it in the form or email them. If not, then it is something internal, and they do not give specific details.
Sometimes, the visa officer can issue 221(g) for the applicant, even if the reason is not directly related to the applicant. It could be for a simple reason, such as the Visa Officer’s computer suddenly crashed and cannot be used while you are at the interview. Instead of letting you wait, the office can choose to issue a 221(g). There can be any reason, the officer most of the times will let the applicant know or email the applicant, if something is needed from them.
Received 221(g) form, Passport Returned Without Stamping?
When you get a 221g form for administrative processing, your passport will be returned without visa stamping. It is a standard process and nothing to be concerned about.
Your passport was returned to you without the visa stamping because the US Consular officer could not verify all the facts or documents, and it needs additional processing on your case. After you submit the documents or they do additional processing on your case, you will be asked to submit your passport if the consular officer believes they can issue you the US Visa.
US Visa Renewal or Dropbox Stamping: 221g with passport returned.
If you received the 221g form during Dropbox submission for US visa renewal, your passport would have been returned without stamping. In this case as well, there is nothing to be worried about. It is a standard process for them to return the passport without stamping and suggest the applicant’s next steps, such as attending a personal interview, giving biometrics, or submitting more documents or proofs.
Below is the screenshot of a 221g form issued for the Dropbox visa stamping. If you look at it closely, it suggests the applicant attend an in-person interview and carry additional documents such as a “copy of the current petition/visa.”

Next Steps after you get a US Visa Refusal 221(g) Form?
Once your US visa stamping case is put under administrative processing and you are issued a form 221g, below are the next steps that you can expect to happen:
Step 1: Issuance of 221g Form on a White or a Different Color Sheet: The visa applicant is given a white or different colored sheet of paper by the US Consulate officer which reads “”Your visa application has been refused under section 221(g) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act(INA)…“. Different color slips are issued for various reasons by different consulates. There is no standardized color code all the consulates follow. The 221(g) slip or sheet of paper will have your case number, usually the Consular Officer would write it.
Step 2: Submit Documents, mentioned in 221g Slip: If the consular officer wants certain documents or information for processing, they will ask you to submit the documents in person or via email. These can be submitted electronically or through the dropbox. The issued slip will have information about the required documents and how to submit them. The processing will not start until all the documents have been submitted.
Step 3: Processing Time, Waiting time: After you submit the documents, if they were requested by the consular officer in the 221g form or via email, you need to wait for them to process your case. There is nothing you need to do, you need to wait. There is no estimated time or Service Level Agreement(SLA) time for 221(g) cases.
Step 4: Submit Passport or Visa issuance Decision: Once the processing is complete on your case, and the visa officer determines that you are eligible for the US visa, then you will be asked to submit the passport(if they have not collected it during the interview). After you submit the passport, they would issue your US Visa and glue it in the passport. If, for some reason, the visa officer believes you are not eligible, then they will return the documents and give the applicant a denial letter. Check out Sample 221g US Visa Denial Letter.
You can add your case at community based tracker at 221g Tracker
How long does 221(g) Administrative Processing Take?
There is no set timeline or an SLA for 221g administrative processing. It depends on the case complexity and the reason for getting a 221(g) refusal letter. It can take as little as a week or as long as several months.
Usually, if the consular officer asks for a simple documents or needs to do any minor verifications in their systems, it can be resolved quickly. But, if they need to verify your info across security databases, or contact other agencies or companies, it can take much longer.
The official guidance from the US Consulates/ Embassy, as it appears on the USTravelDocs.com India website – 221g page, is that each case is different and processing time depends on that particular case. They say most of the cases in 221g administrative processing should be resolved within 180 days from the date of the interview.
See the below screenshot from their website.

When can you follow up with the US Consulate/Embassy on your 221g Case?
As per the US Dept of State, unless it is a travel emergency due to a serious illness or injury, death of a family member, or something critical, you should not contact them regarding administrative processing before 180 Days. If you have submitted documents after the issuance of 221(g), then you need to wait 180 days from that submission date before you can contact the US Consulate/Embassy.
Below is the screenshot of the actual guidance on the USTracelDocs Website as per US Consulates/Embassy

How to Check the Status of 221(g) Case on the CEAC Website?
You can check the status of your 221(g) case on the Consular Electronic Application Center(CEAC) website. While this may not be updated every day or every week, this is the only avenue for applicants to check the status of their case before they hit the 180 days mark to contact the consulate.
- Visit the CEAC Web page
- Click on the Application Status section, depending on the type of your application, either immigrant or non-immigrant. See the below screenshot.
- If you applied for F1, H1B, H4, L1, L2, you fall under Non-immigrant.

3. Enter the details of the location, application id or case number, passport number, and first 5 letters of your surname/family name and enter the captcha. Below is the screenshot of what all fields you must complete.

4. You will get the status of your 221(g) case at the end. Depending on the processing, it can show as refused, approved, or issued. See the below screenshot on how the status would look like for refused case of 221(g), when they are processing the case.

How to follow up on your 221(g) Case with US Consulate?
As per the US Dept. of State guidance, you cannot contact the US Consulate or Embassy before 180 days regarding your 221(g) administrative processing from the day of issuance of the 221g form. But, many applicants do follow-up on their case before they reach 180 days in a very professional tone. While you may or may not get a response, it is worth a shot to try after a few weeks from the date of issuance of your 221(g) form.
The process of contacting the US Consulate is different in each country. In some countries, they provide an email on the Consulate/Embassy website, in some countries, you must go through the US Visa Globals Support Services Provider such as CGI.
For instance, in India, they have completely removed the ability to contact the US Consulate/ Embassy directly using email for 221(g) cases. They have introduced the concept of completing a form for your need. You are asked to email the US Visa Globals Support Services Provider contact email support-india@usvisascheduling.com.
You must check the US Embassy/ Consulate website in your country and see, if there is a direct option to contact the consulate. If not, you should email the relevant outsourced services provider such as CGI to their standard support email address and request for support indicating your emergency or if you have completed the 180 days and still have not heard back from the Consulate. You can also try to call the US Embassy/Consulate for more info.
Also, if you are working in US, then you can email your Senator and ask them for help. However, this should be done only if it has been pending for 180 days or more. Again, there is no guarantee.

Can I expedite 221g Administrative Processing? Premium Processing?
The US Department of State does not have an option to expedite the processing of your 221(g) case. There is nothing you can do before 180 days. If there is an emergency travel need, you must submit the requet by attaching all the relevant proof and email the consulate or the global support services provider such as CGI requesting to expedite. It is up to the discretion of the US Consulate/ Embassy to process the same.
Unlike USCIS premium processing, there is no premium processing option for 221(g) cases with US Department of State. You just need to wait. The wait can be long, but it is what it is…
Very long delay with 221(g): Can I sue the US Govt. and file Writ of Mandamus?
If the delay in the processing of your 221(g) administrative processing is unreasonable, then you can file a Writ of Mandamus. Basically, what you are doing is suing the US Govt. saying that they have not done their work properly on time and it has impacted your life. Unreasonable delay is very subjective and you may consider anything around 6 to 8 months unreasonable. The longer the delay, the more unresonable.
Filing a Writ of Mandamus Lawsuit will help you get a decision on your 221(g) case, but it does not increaes your chances of approval or gurantee the approval of your case. It can take anywhere from 3 months to 4 months to get this Mandmanus Lawsuit to have some effect on your case.
Depending on your case, attorneys can charge a lot of money. They can charge anywhere from $3000 to $10,000 based on your case.
221(g) Final Decision – Visa Denied
Depending on the type of US Visa you applied for, the US Consular officer will make a decision on your case and communicate the decision to the applicant. A letter or email will be sent to the applicant stating that the Consular officer cannot issue the visa to the applicant as they do not meet the requirements for the visa as per the Immigration and Nationality Act(INA).
In some 221(g) cases for visa types like H1B, the petition related to the H1B and a memorandum explaining the decision is sent to USCIS for further review and revocation as applicable. Below is the screenshot of a sample final refusal/ denial letter and an email sent to the applicant after the initial 221(g) refusal form.

Below is the sequence of events that usually happen after the denial decision is made for an H1B Visa.
- Consulate will send the H1B petition back to USCIS for reconsideration along along with their comments with a memorandum explaining their decision.
- All the original documents will be returned to applicant, except for I-797, which will be sent to USCIS
- Once USCIS receives the petition, they will send a notice of receipt to the petitioner.
- USCIS will review the petition (this could take 2-3 months or more) and either issue a NOIR (Notice of Intent to Revoke) or NOID (Notice of Intent to Deny). The petitioner will be given certain days (30-60 days; actual days given are mentioned in the NOIR/NOID) to respond.
- Based on the petitioner’s response, USCIS will finally reinstate the petition or deny it.
- If the petition is reinstated, then USCIS will send the document to the concerned US consulate, which in turn will get in touch with you to appear at the consulate. This overall process can take many months and not much can be done.
Common FAQs
Not necessarily. Unfortunately, 221g administrative processing takes time, and one needs to remain hopeful. If one has been asked to submit the passport after submission of documents or after the interview, then that’s definitely a positive sign.
Sometimes, the US Visa officer may want to verify something on their end and may not need any information from you. This is very common and nothing to be worried. Every case is different and the processing time totally varies by case and cannot say.
Also, you can check out our 221(g) tracker that has anonymous data with users like you, who added the details for community benefit. Waiting for the 221(g) response from US Consulate can be very painful. To help everyone be informed on average processing time and other similar cases, we have built an easy way to track for users their 221(g) status and let the community have an idea on the timeline as well. It is fully anonymous. Please add your case to the 221(g) Tracker.

I was refused under the section 221g on 24th dec 2015 after two months my case got updated and on 11 feb my status was refused. I was refused because they didn’t know anything about my 12th board as i did from internation board. Later on i come to know about they haven’t verified anything from anywhere about my board and after some day i collected my passport with all the docs and 214b i applied to non-ranked university without toefl i even don’t know whether it’s blacklisted or not(dixie state university) so can i apply again and in good university with toefl score or now it’s doesn’t matter as i am afraid that now they will not approve my visa because i never heard 221g f1 rejection got visa in next interview please help me out
Hello sir
i applied for R1 on 16th march 16
VO collect my ppt with approved 797B n told me you will receive a msg in two- three days and he not given me any type of letter like blue pink or any
Now its passed more than 95 days i checkrd with ustraveldocs
They ask me for e mail i was did it that told me “your case is under 221g Administrative process” please tell me what can I do now?
Thanks n regards
Sir the site shows “no status”
Saurabh,
It’s been 115days since I got the blue card 221g, for H1B visa
My case has been updated twice
1. 31 March 2016
2. 12 April 2016
Recently my employer had communicated with the authority
The response was
‘Thank you for writing to the U.S. Visa Service Desk.
We understand that you have a query regarding your case status.
In response to your question, a case with the case number “Case” has already been escalated and is still in the process of being reviewed. We will contact you as soon as we receive a response.
We hope this information is helpful to you. ‘
I don’t understand my case status was updated twice in 12 days and nothing after that for two months
Please advise
What I can do
What my petitioner can do
HPG,
There are not many options available. As it has been 60 days since 221g was issued, your attorney can contact State Department in US, but don’t expect very helpful replies. It will still remain a black box in terms of updates and timelines.
Hello Saurabh,
After 130 days after my H1B interview my case is sent back to USCIS, here is what they sent an email reply
‘This is in response to your inquiry.
The consulate is returning your petition to USCIS for further review. Upon completion of the review, USCIS will contact your petitioner.
Sincerely,
Consular Information Unit
US Consulate General :: Chennai ‘
Does this means THE END?
What I can do.
What the employer should do.
HPG,
USCIS will now review the petition and would either reinstate it or issue NOIR. If reinstated, then you can reappear for stamping. If NOIR issued, your employer would be contacted and given a chance to respond before it is denied or reinstated.
You can still find another employer and ask them to file cap-exempt petition for you.
Comment updated: However, once USCIS revokes the petition, it cannot be used as a reference for cap-exempt petition filing.
Saurabh,
I am in the same boat.
Should I ask my employer to hold back on replying to queries raised by USCIS and ask another employer to file cap exempt visa as you said that if USCIS denies previous one, I cannot file a cap exempt petition again.
Before two years I was granted one year B1/B2 visa at the interview, everything was smooth, the purpose was attending a conference.
This time, the situation was completely opposite when applying for the same visa category, I was giving the yellow paper 221g with not justification, and taken my passport.
After two days, I got the passport with the same paper, but at this time, a “tick” on “submit your CV”! OK, I sent it.
More than one month gone, and nothing happened.
I already submitted my paid tickets, bank statement, supporting docs from college that funded my travel with no objection to travel, my salary statement, conference accepted paper plus their invitation.
Thank you
Ahmed,
You have a common Muslim name, and it may be stuck in background check. There is no SLA and it could take days, weeks or months.
Hello Saurabh,
On 11 July I got email reply from ustraveldocs that ‘The consulate is returning your petition to USCIS for further review. Upon completion of the review, USCIS will contact your petitioner.’
My company has hired an attorney from antone, A member American Immigration Lawyers Association.
They are constantly in communication with Madras consulate, but they’re not cooperating.
I sent email to ustraveldocs requesting update, the reply I got was ‘Your case is still pending administrative processing.’
I really don’t understand it’s been 6 months and still under processing.
Being a consulate they are so irresponsible, the worst currupt bureaucrat would have worked on the case if weekly once communicated, I’ve been doing that twice a week.
At Least they should solve the issue by rejecting, so that based on the point of rejection I could’ve applied on the same day,
Moreover my petition validity is till November 2016.
And my company is planning for UK visa for long duration, processing is started though.
Saurabh. Please suggest what are the options I have.
HPG,
Based upon their July 11th reply, looks like the case is no longer handled by the consulate but is back w/ USCIS. Was there any change w/ your online USCIS status? As the current petition is about to end, maybe file another cap-exempt petition through same/different employer and reappear for stamping later.
Hello Saurabh,
Thank you for the suggestion, I need more information on ‘ file another cap-exempt petition through same/different employer’
1. I got new reply from UStraveldocs on Monday ‘
As informed in our earlier email, your case is pending administrative processing. On completion of the process, we will update you’
As they mentioned ‘The consulate is returning your petition to USCIS for further review’ on 11 July, why am I getting the reply that it’s still in administrative processing?
2. Consulate is not giving any information to me and the attorney, I have called several times.
3. There is no change in the USCIS status, still shows April 12 status.
4. If the file is still in AP, can I approach other company, few other companies are showing interest on my profile.
5. What will be the procedure for cap exempt.
6. Should I still believe in clearance from administrative processing, and get visa stamped …!
HPG,
Find another employer and ask them to file H-1 transfer or cap-exempt petition for you. Once approved, reappear for stamping. The new employer would need copy of previous approval notice for this. Rest of the documents would be similar to what you needed for your initial H-1 petition.
It is tough to say what the current AP status is as they have given contradictory responses.
Hello Saurabh,
Thank you for usual cooperation & suggestions,
In your previous suggestion mentioned on ‘ find other employer’
I could find a couple trustable employers through my friends.
One of them is asking me to withdraw
Do I have the authority to withdraw or make it useable for other employers.
All original documents are with me.
And with same same employer what could be the possible ways.
Please suggest
I’m hoping the best
HPG,
You can write a letter to consulate asking to withdraw your visa application. However, they may send the petition back to USCIS for reconsideration as part of withdrawal. Talk to this employer’s attorney and proceed with withdrawal only if the attorney is also onboard with this.
Hello Saurabh,
It seems the hopes are diminishing,
I sacrificed so much, lost heaps of money, the pathetic condition ever.
Over that my personal life also effected.
the companies which said, will process further, are now saying different things
1. If you were in USA before/currently on other Visa.
2. If I have a valid H1B Visa.
3. If the case is not in AP.
I think I should let go, and find a job elsewhere, anyway my petition is valid till 11 November,
I made a mistake, I quit job at No.1 OEM in the world, jobless from 203 days.
HPG,
I can understand the frustration. I am not in the job market currently, so don’t know how easy or difficult it is to find one. However, having previously approved H-1 petition should be an added bonus to your profile. Lot of companies are not able to get H-1s selected in the lottery, and so getting a new employee who has H-1 should be seen as an advantage.
Saurabh,
Thank you keeping me encouraged.
All the companies whom i have approached till now are pretty much interested in having me on-board, at the same time their attorneys giving different reasons.
My petition is valid only a month and half from now, is it possible to have an extension after that also ?
I have checked in all possible blogs/websites, it seems percentage of approvals during AP seems very less, most of the petitions are been approved within 60 days, remaining are dumped ..
my case was updated twice within 45 days, nothing after that its been 203 days now.
HPG,
Cap-exempt petition can be filed even after the current petition has expired.
Hello Saurabh,
Thank you for kind reply.
I spoke to one of my friend who was under AP,I got few points from him, could you guide me.
–If you have applied in Chennai and were issued a 221(g) letter and asked to come back when you are prepared with all the required documents, please do not make an appointment. You may appear at the Consulate on any working Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday in the morning (between 10:00 and 12:00). –If your visa was not issued under section 221(g), you are required to fill out a new application form when you reapply.
–If your interview in Chennai is for the same visa and is within one year of the 221g refusal, you will not be required to pay another application fee. However, you are required to fill out a new application form.
–If you have applied at one of the embassies or consulates outside of India, and have been refused under section 221(g) and you are instructed to reapply in Chennai, please make an appointment on the website – www.vfs-usa.co.in to come in for your next interview. You will be required to pay the application fee and to fill out a new application form.
–If your visa was denied under section 221(g) at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, or the Consulates General in Mumbai or Kolkatta, and you are instructed to reapply in Chennai, you must complete the following steps to be seen for an interview in Chennai.
meanwhile i have sent emails to check my PIMS status too, which i did not do before going to thhe interview
HPG,
The information looks ok, but I can’t confirm with certainty as I don’t know where it has been taken from. One of the points mentioned is about vfs, but they no longer handle visa processing.
Surabh,
few minutes back i got the email form the consulates, mentioned below.
This is to inform you, that your H1b case has been suspended under Section 221 (g) of the United States Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) pending further administrative processing. The petition will be soon returned to United States Citizenship and Immigration Service for review.
attached document says
221g prohibits the issuance of visa to anyone failed to present the documents required in connection with the visa application, or who failed to submit sufficient credible evidence to support the claimed petitionable relationship
9FAM 41.53 N 2-3 section 212(a)(6)(C)(i) (or other appropriate section )
VO did not ask for any documents.
IS THIS THE END ?
HPG,
You should move to another company ASAP. USCIS will review the petition and may decide to reinstate or revoke it. If former, then you can go for stamping again (which should be a formality). If latter, that’s the end of the road.
Saurabh,
i have not changed the company or moved my petition yet.
i am still in the same company who have filed my petition.
i have told the people who are managing H1B at Us that.
The immigration lawyer need to be informed about the soon to be received notice of intent to revoke by USCIS as a direct consequence of the consular visa denial and kick back of the petition approved by USCIS with the recommendation to revoke, most likely due to fraud. Employer will be given 30 days to respond to the NOID.
should i get it transferred to other company?
HPG,
It may not be a bad idea to start looking at other employers as a back-up plan.
Saurabh,
Thank you for usual cooperation.
On my issue the attorney is mentioning that it’s difficult to get the visa approved once it has reached USCIS, till now he was mentioning under AP nothing can be done, if it is sent to USCIS we’ll have chance to prove.
I frustrated with this kind of comments,
What are the rolls of me/sponsor/attorney
once file reaches USCIS
Hi HPG,
Did u file a cap exempt visa and got it stamped, finally?
Hi ,
15/06/2016 i attended the Visa stamping interview ,VO asked me about general information about me and project and company ,I have provided the same info as i had..
VO didn’t ask me any documents and provided the 221g white slip
What was it mean?
Did i hope for visa approval?
My company was small and more than 40+ members has got approved since last 5years.
VO asked me below documents
1)Tax returns of employer for 3years
2)Petition
3)Project documentaion(inhouse)
Request you to please help asap..I am feeling more tense
Kartheek,
Talk to your employer and collect those documents. BTW, is the in-house project real or a sham (in lieu of client project)?
Thank you Saurabh for your reply.
My employer is Gold partner which can resell the product so project is related to “Oracle EBS customization and development project”
My employer maintains (Tax returns) everything clear.
Can i hope for visa now?
Thank you,
Kartheek.
Kartheek,
In that case it should get approved. However, no one knows the timelines for 221g processing.
I had an interview 6 june 2016. on interview they told me interview was very good. they want to give me my passport back after 10 days. when i checked my status on 10th june it showed me “visa issued on 8 june”. But 14th june they gave me new status “administrative processing”. can any one tell me why its happened. 1st show me issued then few days later its showing me administrative processing. i am in f2a. and they do not want any type of additional document from me. i contact with them, they told me its in sole discretion. Anybody have any idea how long will it take in sole discretion. and ad after issued why they again put me in administrative processing?
Atik,
If they have not asked for any additional documents, there is no way to know for sure what the reason is. It is possible, they are checking w/ the school about F-1 holder’s enrollment, or something else. Also, there is no set processing time and could take days, weeks or months.
saurabh,
who is f-1 holders? i dont understand.
thank you for your reply
Dear Saurabh,
i called them. they told me its under sole discretion of embassy.
Hi Saurabh,
i attended visa interview on Dec 2015 and it is almost 6 months. only one time CEAC status date updated and can i hope for successful stamping?
AGB,
Delay doesn’t mean denial. So it may still get approved. However, there is no SLA and so it could days, weeks or months.
I got 221g and i am waiting from 7.5 months. i heard from my employer that USCIS in person visited my employer office and verified few documents. My employer saying it is positive. How much they will take to respond as it is completed 3 weeks already after verification.
Hi AGB,
What happened, have you got response back from USCIS after they visited. Please respond.
Thanks.
Applied for B1 visa renewal under interview waiver program but got green 221g letter asking me to submit details related to B2 type visa like sponsoring organization letter and like. In reply, stated that I was going for visiting daughter, gave the details related to B1 such as invitation letter from daughter and son-in-law and I-134 form from son-in-law. Also informed that I Was retired for 15 years and having no job or business after that. But they are asking same details again.
Hi, My name is.Mohammed Ather. I have applied for F1bvisa and have attended visa interview. The VO gave a green paper of 221g and said to mail other documents. I have got an admission in USA for Phd in Aeronautical engineering. I have mailed the documents but didnt receive any submission reply. How can i know whether my mail was received by consulate.
You can email them, requesting for acknowledgment or check, if they have received documents.
Can i apply for another f1 visa for another University. And if i do that will the first one the pending one will be available or cancelled. Should i.pay for another Sevis fee if i am applying for another f1 Visa.
Well, I would wait for the first one to be resolved before going for the second University stamping. It can be frustrating, but try to hang in there…You can email the embassy you situation after a month or so and see their advice.
I already had my paid tickets, bank statement, supporting docs from college that funded my travel with no objection to travel, my salary statement, conference accepted paper plus their invitation.
Knowing that there was a huge difference between the first interview and the second one, in term of the questions as well as the experience ( the age) of the interviewing person.
Thank you
Hi Saurabh,
In case of PIMS update issue on How many days the consulate returns back with query ? We are suspecting change of location
Amendment in petition could be reason for admin processing. We filled out DS160 in March 2016 when our location was NY. Then it changed to New Jersey and amendment was submitted by company in April. But we appeared for Dropbox (May 9th 2016) with ds160 filled as NY. Still waiting for an update .. Now in the 4th week since document submission.
Aishukou,
Although there is no set processing time, in my experience PIMS should get resolved within a month. Still, there is no SLA and so it may also take longer. Is the amendment petition approved or still pending? Maybe it is pending amendment petition approval.
Hi Saurabh,
Is there any way to enquire in Uscis regarding the worksite ammendment?
Aishukou,
Your employer can try but there is a good chance that they won’t provide any meaningful information.
Hey,
I had my VISA interview today. VO took my passport along with my loan document for verification. But he didn’t give me any kind of slip. I am unable to figure out about this situation. Please help..!!!
I will start my residency in Internal from June 20, 2016. My H 1b petition was approved by USCIS in time. When I appeared for visa interview at Islamabad embassy Pakistan, the visa officer told me that he is approving my visa but a gave me a general white 221 g slip .Online visa application tracking on ceac.state.gov still shows “Administrative processing” and it has not been updated since the day of my interview. My employer is a big hospital in US and they sponsor many H1b every year. I was not asked to submit any document on the day of my interview. I have traveled to US before on B1/B2 and never had similar problem. I am very worried about all this as my joining date is in two weeks.
Zamrak,
You have a common Muslim name, and it **may** be stuck in security check. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do here. If it has been 60 days since the interview date, the attorney can write to State Department about your case but they may or may not provide any meaningful update.
Hi Saurabh,
I am in 221g since 140 days.Is consular officer rejects the visa if my client or employer website is not looking great. They do not look like professional websites but employer doing good business and 8mn revenue. IS consular officer took the decision solely on website they have?
AGB,
I don’t think they will make the decision solely based on websites. They usually go for site visits in order to make the final decision.
Hi,
I had my F1 visa interview on 12th April 2016. I didn’t apply for any loan and instead provided proof of my bank statement showing necessary bank balance. VO said they will have to verify it with the bank before they could approve the visa. Unfortunately it was a bank holiday and they gave me a 221g slip and said I don’t have to come to the consulate anymore and that they will notify me where to drop my passport for stamping after the verification process. My college starts on May 15th 2015 and my visa status is still in administrative processing. They haven’t reached out to the bank as well. I am not sure of how I should handle this. Please share your thoughts on this. Thank you !
Hi Saurabh,
I applied for F-1 student visa on March 17th 2016 in Chennai consulate ,VO asked me all the required documents ,I showed everything to her , after some time she gave me a yellow slip and asked me to wait till she calls me .after some time she called me and said we are issuing 221(g) form stating that we need further administrative processing ,tats what they ticked in the check box . My classes starts on 9th May 2016 ,its been more than 48 days after the interview still my status shows Admin Process ,I asked them in phone ,I mailed them ,even through Skype I contacted them ,the reply was “You have to wait Sir” we cant comment about that , But yesterday on 2nd May 2016 the status shows “REFUSED” I was totally collapsed with this status .I emailed them asking why they have refused my application, and I even called them they said you will receive a email regarding status and in that email all the necessary informations will be enclosed “like this they said to me , My classes starts next week , All my documents are with them ,I don’t know what to do next ,please do reply for this enquiry .
Dinesh,
Unfortunately, you don’t have many options here. If the visa is refused, you cannot attend the school at the moment. See if you can defer enrollment and try for F-1 again later. If you know what the rejection reasons are, then try to address them before next visa stamping.
Hi Saurabh
Thanks for the reply , But one of my friend suggested an idea ,that If Im able to get an extension from the university for 10 days , by that time Is it possible for applying an new appointment at Embassy with all the required documents ,Including an Extension letter ,will that be a good idea, please suggest me some good idea Saurabh, Im totally drained out with this result ,I was thinking 100% sure that I will get the visa ,because all the docs were with them ,Nearly 48 days from 17th March 2016 to 2nd May 2016 ,but the result was quite opposite . please suggest me some good idea with this issue . thanks
Dinesh,
There is no additional downside of this. You can ask school for extension, and then reappear for stamping. However, there is a possibility that new stamping would meet similar fate as earlier one.
Do you have any guesses why it was rejected? Was is your school, or your lack of social-financial ties to India; or something else?
What documents did they take from you? and what questions did they ask you?. I am in a similar situation, It’s been nearly 72 days. I appeared for the interview at Riyadh Consulate in Saudi Arabia. He only took my xerox of i20 and degree. I tried contacting they keep saying AP AP
Hi Nimisha
Im Dinesh from chennai ,I’m also facing the same problem as you faced ,My classes start on next week .Even I don’t know what to do ,for more details if you want to contact me my Ph no : 9789638232 my e-mail Id : dine.jan27@gmail.com .thanks
Saurabh
Again thanks for replying. No I don’t have any idea for what reason they have rejected me,would I get any Official mail from the Consulate regarding my Refusal, On 2nd May 2016 I received the refusal in online ,after that I din’t get any mail from anyone , then I sent a mail to Support Team stating whats the reason behind the refusal ,they revert me back with this e-mail
“Dear Mr. Markandan:
This is in response to your inquiry. Consular records show that you applied for a student visa but failed to qualify under Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Under the INA, all applicants for nonimmigrant visas are initially presumed to be intending immigrants. During the visa interview, the burden of proof is on the applicant to demonstrate that he/she intends to return to a residence abroad following a temporary stay in the United States. If the applicant’s visa interview does not reveal sufficient evidence to overcome the statutory presumption of intending immigration, the Consular Officer must refuse the application under Section 214(b).
Student applicants must demonstrate that they are seriously pursuing a specific academic goal and that they have a credible plan for utilizing their U.S. education when they depart the United States. They must provide sufficient evidence of finances to cover the costs of the education. They should show evidence that the funds are immediately available to pay their first year of tuition and living expenses as well as a credible funding plan for subsequent years of their education at the time of the interview. They must also convince the officer that they intend to depart from the United States at the completion of their studies.
Thanks
Consular Information Unit
US Consulate General :: Chennai
If this is the reason will I get all my original documents which I submitted at the time of Interview ,Please reply me .Thanks
Dinesh,
Looks like they found you potential immigration (214b). So the officer determined that you would not return to home country after completing your education. Were you asked about family in India or financial ties to India?
Saurabh.
My H1B visa interview was on 1 March, tha VO handed blue card ‘ administrative processing ‘ block checked
My case has been updated twice
31 March 2016
12 April 2016
Ustraveldocs mentioned in a mail reply .
Case Reason:
Hold case/221 G & Refusals/214B
But the VO, asked only a few questions on the company name to me and marriage date to my spouse
Did not ask questions on 214b related
How these kind of inappropriate and undefined way of questioning and mentioning the reason as 214B
I had my joining date on March 14th, the client waited till April 22. But they still want me onboard for different position
There should be a set target for administrative processing
HPG,
For H-1B, 214b is not applicable as H-1 is dual intent visa. So its primarily 221g (the status may be generic to cover both scenarios).
Did they keep any documents? They may be verifying the docs w/ employer and client. Unfortunately, 221g is not time-boxed and can take several months also.
Sourabh,
VO didn’t take any document, he asked me on my job profile, I explained and was even mentioned in the parant and client letter
He gave me the employee rights at USA booklet, and told me not to take appointment again air even not to come to consulate but can be dropped all the documents along with passport at Dropbox in Bengaluru
Hi Saurabh,
It’s been 96 days on my H1B, 221g blue card
I have been contacting UStraveldocs once a week no information is being shared
Appointment date : 01 March 2016 at madras
My case has been updated twice
1. 31 March 2016
2. 12 April 2016
VO did not ask for any document to be submitted, he asked me only on my job profile which was mentioned briefly on the client letter
He handed me the employees rights at the USA, and asked me not take appointment but drop documents in drop box in Bengaluru
Is there anything the employer can do , ie. Discuss with attorney or legal people
Yes she asked me the basic questions regarding my ties in India ,I said very well that I have a family here and I am the only son to take care of my parents, and my aim is to learn the advanced technology involved in my field and I want to implement those Technics in my country ,so I din’t find any wrong in the Interview ,then they asked me the Financial documents I gave my bank loan letter , FD deposits ,and the Evaluation of my assets , then she gave me a yellow slip and said wait for some time till the staff calls me to counter ,I waited nearly 3 hrs and she called me with a smile and gave me 221(g) form stating that my application needs more Administrative processing. after 48 days of Interview my status shows Refused . If Im a potential Immigrant they would have rejected me on board itself ,why they put me in Admin Process ,jus before a week of my start date my status shows Refused. Ok anyways will I get all my original documents to my home address or I need to go Consulate to collect them ..Please reply me …thanks.
Dinesh,
I am not sure if it will be mailed to your home or you will have to collect it from one of their centers. You can call them and ask.
HPG,
Unfortunately, you don’t have many easy options here.
1. Get a cap-exempt petition from same/different employer and reappear for visa stamping. Hopefully that would be approved.
2. Ask attorney to follow-up w/ state department in US as the case has been pending for more than 90 days now.
3. Continue to wait
Hi Saurabh,
Unlike Dinesh they haven’t taken any of my original documents. I was told that they have taken copies of my bank statement, I-20 and passport for the verification process. The interview also went very well. I am not sure of the reason for the delay. I tried reaching the Consulate and was told to wait for 60 days. In that case I am going to miss my 2 months’ classes. Will that not create any problems during immigration or should I apply for the next admission cycle after the visa approval ?
Please address my query. Thanks you !
Hi Nimisha ,
My status was updated on 2nd May 2016 as refused ,I was totally shocked wen I saw my status after 48 days of my Interview ,where my classes are about to start by 9th May , This is totally ridiculous they got all my original docs with them ,If they rejected me at the time of the interview ,I will be having some time to reapply but those Idiots they updated the status in last moment. Now I don’t know what to do ,Im totally drained out and confused that what should I do next . probably I have to defer my admission to next intake that is Fall 2016. Anyways your case is still in Pending right ,so hopefully you will get the visa at any moment ,no worries .
Nimisha,
If you can delay your admission, then you should do that. There is no SLA for the processing time they can take. So wait for few more weeks and then talk to school about possibility of delaying the admission.
hi
i just applied for my E2 visa in us consulate.they gave me a white latter 221g.i checked my status online it says “administrative processing.in one weak my case status updates 2 times.i mean case status update ;date chenged two times.can any one tell me that what is the meaning of case update ‘date changed means?
thanks
Hi , I am in USA for more than 4 months on h1b. My wife and kid went for H4 visa stamping to Mumbai consulate. The consulate start grilling on project to my spouce. Since She know basic about the project she provided basic information about project. They give her 221 g white slip and asked to send all documents via email. i.e. client, project details, location, original petition etc. My employer emailed to mumbai consulate all the documents. Now my question is how much time it will take for h4 stamping, for complete the process? Does it affect my h1b anyway?
Brijesh K. P.,
It is not common for them to question H4 candidate about H-1 holder; although they can do that at their discretion.
It doesn’t impact your H-1. There is no set processing time and can take few weeks to several months.
I had H1B Visa from company B which expired in Feb 2016. I left US in Sep 2014 before expiry of this Visa and have been in India since then. Recently my previous company A (Company B is their client now) gave me a job offer and got my I-797 (H1B) petition approved. Earlier when I was working with Company A, Company B was their client then also.
I went online to schedule Visa interview appointment and upon filing the form I was informed that I qualify for “Drop box” Interview waiver program. I emailed consulate to reconfirm and they confirmed that I will have to go through dropbox process if website says so. I submitted the documents to local dropbox center (for Delhi embassy). After 5 working days online Visa status is “Administrative Processing” and I got my passport back with NO Visa but a 221(g) blue slip attached saying:
“We are unable to process your visa application at this time, as we require your presence at the Embassy. Your case has been suspended under section 221(g) until the below indicated process is completed.:
__ Fingerprints
X Interview
_ Other ____________
Please bring this letter and your passport at the Embassy on any business day before 10:00 am. Please DO NOT make a new appointment.”
I have few questions regarding this 221(g) blue slip and the process involved:
1. What documents should I carry with me?
2. What questions will be asked in this case?
3. Anything else I need to take care of?
4. Since it seems to be a walkin interview, will there be a long line at embassy just like for the scheduled interview?
I am planning to appear for the interview by end of this week. I will really appreciate all your help in this regards.
Thank you!
Divya,
1. Carry 797, W2 and payslips for the time you were inside US, current H-1 documents like I-129, LCA copy, employer’s letter to USCIS, contract/project details
2. You may be asked about your client, project, how you found job etc.
3. Not that I know of
4. Take a print out of this letter and go to the consulate. They may ask you to just go in or may ask you to join the scheduled interview line for that time slot.
Saurabh, thank you very much for the quick response.
I have been busy with travelling for Visa and related stuff. Finally got a chance to respond and share my experience. I traveled a day before from another city 5-6 hr away from Delhi consulate. As soon as I reached Delhi, I went to embassy area to inquire what time should I reach embassy and if there is any line formation etc. Surprisingly, no one seemed to know about the walk-in interviews.
Next day I left hotel early to avoid any traffic delays hoping I can get my interview done in first round. But I reached fast, before 7 AM. There were many people already at embassy. I reached out to the guard and ask when can I take the interview. He didn’t knew about walk-in interviews. I showed the slip, he seemed confused and said, come to me at 8 AM. Lines started forming for scheduled interviews at 7:30 AM. I went to guard at 8 AM, he asked me to come see him at 8:45 AM. I was worried and explained to him that I am from another city and I can’t miss the interview today. He assured that he will send me in at 8:45 AM without standing in line. I was sent in as promised. Regular scanning was done and I was sent to the interview area without any delay.
In the interview area, there was a very big line just like at airport. After standing for 45 minutes, my turn came.
Me: Good morning Sir, How are you doing?
Interviewer: Good morning.
Me: Gave him the passport with the blue slip attached.
Interviewer: Took some time to review the slip and passport and searched his system for some details, it seemed. Once done, he asked few questions like where are you going, why are you going, what your company do, what will you do for them, how long you have been in India, what will be your salary, what location you will be working at.
In the end he said, your visa is granted, have a good day. I thanked him and wish him the same.
So, basically, no other document was asked besides the passport and blue slip. Hope this helps someone sailing in the same boat.
Thanks and good luck!
Divya,
Congrats on successful interview, and thanks for sharing the experience
Hello Saurabh, I was issued 221(g) white slip and said to email the documents – I797, I129, master service agreements, LCA & USCIS letter. I’m not sure what is USCIS lettter? I have the copy of the whole petition and I see letter from my Employer to USCIS describing the contents like about the company, beneficiary(me) and all the exhibits that the petition has in it. Is this what they are asking for? I’m little confused, as I have the remaining documents.
Please advise. Thank you.
Bob87,
Yes, the letter which your employer sent to USCIS is the USCIS letter they are referring to.
Hey bob I am also in same boat.
Today i had a interview at hyderabad consulate and VO given white slip 221g and asked me to submit all the document which you have mentioned(I797, I129, master service agreements, LCA & USCIS ).Please let me know your status.
Hi Ashwini@veeday.com,
Did you get any update from the consulate as I also got 221g on April 26th from Hyd Consulate and my case is not updated since then
Hi
I went for an interview on 24th Feb following an ESTA refusing due to me having a spent conviction for receiving stolen goods over 30 years ago, the rest of my family were accepted no problem. We had originally booked to go to New York in December 2015 but we had to pay to have the trip postponed until today because of not even getting the visa interview until Feb. Further to that we have now had to postpone until October this year as the visa is still in administrative processing. At the end of my interview the Consular Officer said as far as he is concerned the visa is approved but it will need to go ‘upstairs’ to get signed off. I wasn’t given a 221(g) letter or anything else for that matter, I was just told if there was any further info needed they would be in contact with me and it should be ‘a couple of weeks’. I have no way of tracking the process apart from the CEAC website that just shows ‘Administrative Processing’. I have no idea how far the process has gone or how long its got to go before I get an answer but why wasn’t I given a form? I also need my passport back to book our summer holiday flights or that will end up being another disaster because the US Immigration service still has it. Is there anyway I can contact them to see if I should actually have a 221(g) form or do I just need to sit and wait on them? I’m only in their country for 5 days if I get the visa, we just want to show the kids New York before they are too old to want to go away with their parents again.
Dave Ryder,
Unfortunately, there are only couple of ways you can contact consulate, either email them or call them for status. You have no other option other than waiting. It can be very frustrating waiting, but there is no option left…just hope for the best.
Many thanks for the reply Kumar, I tried calling and was told that department doesn’t take phone calls so I guess I’m stuck with emailing them and just having to wait.
Regards
Dave
Dave,
I guess, no option left…Just wait ! It can be very frustrating, but there is no solution…Good Luck !
I have 221(g) white slip by mumbai consulate for my application. N consultant mailing me for second interview in 10:30 on any business days. So i am confused why calling me second time interview in my case.
Plzzz reply me my visa category is f1 visa. I am so confused.
Krupal patel,
Who is this consultant? Did you mean consulate?
Hi, applied for B1/B2 visa on the 4th March 2016 US London Embassy , my partner has booked a holiday to Florida in Mid April 2016 with our 2 kids, both my partner and kids are british, i have lived in UK over 20 years, i was issued US visa back in 2004 with no issues.
unfortunately this time I am stuck in 221g admin processing, the officer at the time of the interview confirmed i qualified for the VISA and handed back my passport and white 221g saying it will take 3 weeks to resolve. on the 7th of March i have received further email from the embassy requesting further background information which was provided to them. I heard nothing since. corcerned about my holiday now, kids and partner will be devastated if i can’t go. I work for big financial institution and have my own property with clear background. is this delay really necessary for a Tourist
Mems,
Do you have a common Muslim name? If so, then your petition may be stuck in security background check.
Hi,
I, along with spouse & kid attended the procedure on 29th February and March 1st
The interviewer asked few basic questions and then asked for client letter I did show him, he asked me that there is no mentions on my job description ( there was one line mentioned though) I did try to explain and showed my parent company offer letter at USA
He asked me to wait with yellow slip
Nearly after 2hours called me and gave blue card and told me I need not have to come for the interview again and handed me the booklet on know your rights
In the 221g he has checked on only administrative processing & he didn’t even mention weather i need to submit any document
March 14th was my joining date at client place though they have told me that they can wait, but I’ve asked them to wait till 28th March
Please suggest
Hi, I got 221g 3 months back and status still showing admin processing. No documents were asked and so far no communication from consulate. Can i file a cap exempt petition through another employer? if so what are the chances it ends up with another 221g?
Kris,
Another employer can file a cap-exempt petition for you. You may run into 221g with new employer as well irrespective of whether your current visa stamping is stuck in 221g or not.
HPG,
Unfortunately there is no SLA for 221g processing time. It can take weeks or months. Nothing you can do at this moment, except to wait for their processing to be completed.
Sourabh,
My parant company is planning for B1 for different client for a month or two
By then my administrative processing be approved
Please suggest
HPG,
It cannot be said with surety if the admin processing will be resolved by that time. If you have the passport w/ you, then you can appear for B-1 stamping while H-1B is under admin process.
Saurabh,
Thanks for the inputs
I spoke to few of my friends who are admins at various MNCs handling onsite business administration, told me that it’s not good idea to Travel on B1 when H1 Is at administrative processing, may get black listed
As it’s getting long for me I wonder, should I apply for the petition again ?
I quit my current job at OEM, had too much confidence that I’ll get my visa
I have the Indian offer also with me from the same company which had submitted my petition last year, should I join or wait
Please suggest
HPG,
When you say apply for petition again, do you mean by a different employer? Yes, another employer can file a cap-exempt H-1 petition for you. You can then appear for stamping using that new petition.
As for joining the petitioner in their India office, it’s a call you have to make. I don’t know all the details related to employer/offer/salary etc to give a meaningful suggestion.
Hello Saurabh,
I had garnet a query to the Ustraveldocs, asking on the administrative processing status and shared my old and new schedule C on which job profile mentioned in detail, on which the VO had concerns on
The reply I got was
‘ Case Reason: Hold case/221 G & Refusals/214B
Public Response: Dear Applicant
Consular records show that your case is pending administrative processing. On completion of the process, we will contact you’
I don’t understand this, the VO did not ask any questions on my duration of stay or the questions which may fall in the 214B criteria
HPG,
It is possible that it is a standard public response to cover both 221g and 214b scenario.
Hi Saurabh,
My administrative processing 221G,214B is been updated twice
interview on 1st March 2016
First update. 31 March
Second update. 12 April
If communicated to Ustraveldocs , it says login check the status, where to check the status
Please advice
HPG,
The only ways to know the status online is on ustraveldocs and ceac site. You can use passport number of DS160# to track it.
Saurabh,
The CEAC does not give any information, it shows only the status.
The status been updated twice
Interview on 1st March
Update 1 on March 31
Update 2 on April 12
Still how many updates will be required
Is there any way to check what are the updates on?
HPG,
Those are the only places where I know you can look at current status. I don’t think there is anyplace to track updates. They just provide what the current status is.
mehmet is a common Turkish name, however I would imagine one would use common sense given above info, is the 221g computer generated or is it consular officer who puts the case on 221g ??
Mems,
It is issued by the officer who receives some input from computer and some based on his interpretation. I am just speculating here but there is lot happening in Europe these days, and it could be an effect of the same.
can we appear for stamping again if our case is pending in 221g?
puneet,
You can appear again, but they may refuse the visa again saying that you have a pending 221g and you should deal with it. I assume you will be appearing for same visa category and w/ same petitioner.
My wife appeared for h4 visa on March 9th 2016 at hyderabad consulate. After interview Visa officer told congratulations your visa has been approved.
Since then till today (16th March 2016)status is showing administrative processing. She was not given any 221g slip by the visa officer at the time of interview.
Dont know what to do next. please advise
Biswakesan Patro,
They can put the processing in administrative processing even w/o issuing formal 221g notice. Wait for few more days and see what happens. There is no set timeline/SLA for this.
HI Saurabh,
Thanks for Reply.
Is there any chance I will be getting a 221g from the embassy t submit further documents.
What they basically do in administrative processing.
Is there any chance of rejection ?
Dont worry, this is the state when they do printing of VISA etc. This happened for me as well but changed after day 3. This should change after 7 days at the max I think.
Biswakesan Patro,
Wait for them to contact you and then you will know for sure if it is 221g or not and if so, then what additional docs are required. There is always a chance of rejection, but if you have all docs lined-up, then don’t worry.
Hi Saurabh,
I attended interview on 5th march in Hyderabad…
Iam not having client letter nor Inhouse project. It’s new employment,he’s having some reputed clients.
I was not left with any option than to attend the interview without client and Project details.
Ontime at the interview..and the VO asked me the client details and client letter.
He asked about my company and how i know the company all these details..I explained him briefly..
He said I will not issue visa now..we need to assess your case.
On the whiteslip he checked others category and wrote hydfpu at state dot gov …. All employment documents
and asked me to send the docs gave my passport and all documents back.
Mine employer said he’ll repond to the mail.
I am really tensed now….I have doubts,
1)Is there chance of getting visa as Vo asked me to send mail to hydfpu at state dot gov (fraud prevention unit).
2)If my employer fails to submit the docs, what happen to my petetion.
3)Can I apply through another employer if it’s in admin processing under capexempt.
Thanks
Prakash,
1. It all comes down what your employer provides as response. Looks like consulate is not sure whether the employer has a real job for you or not, or if they have the funds to pay you the salary.
2. They will send the petition back to USCIS for reconsideration. USCIS will either reinstate it, or withdraw it (which is end of road for this petition).
3. Yes, another employer can file cap-exempt petition for you.
What information did your employer submit to USCIS as part of employment docs?
Thanks very much Saurabh…..for your Reply.
I don’t know what information my employer send to USCIS about employment Docs.
They said they will respond to the mail and send docs.
You’ve given answer for my 2nd question as…….
2. They will send the petition back to USCIS for reconsideration. USCIS will either reinstate it, or withdraw it (which is end of road for this petition).
I have one doubt….
1)If my petition is withdrawn or revoked (which is end of road for this petition), Then also i’ll come under cap-exempt for another employer…
2) How many years will I come under cap-exempt
Prakash,
1. If USCIS revokes the petition based on consulate’s input, then that’s the end of road for that petition. It cannot be used as basis for cap-exempt filing in future. When revoking the petition USCIS in a way is admitting that approval should never have been granted and it should have been denied earlier.
2. Under normal scenarios, you are cap-exempted for 6 years from original petition approval date. Some other folks say it is 6 years from original petition expiration date.
Hi,
I had a B1/B2 visa interview on March 01, 2016 where I was asked to furnish additional documents under section 221(g). I had sent the mail to mumbaitech@state.gov id but didn’t get any acknowledgement. Again, I sent a mail to ustraveldocs.com and got the reply where they stated ” We have received your documents and application remains pending under administrative process and department of State is continuously working to expedite visas. Please be assured that we will contact you as soon as your case is processed to conclusion.” I already have booked my tickets. I went for group interview along with my students and they all have qualified for Visa. Can someone tell me what is the probability to get the visa on time in my case?
somya,
What documents did they ask to submit?
They asked me to submit invitation letter of US organisation, resume, research detail as I m PhD in biological science, itinerary, purpose of visit and sponsorship detail.
Somya,
Looks like TAL (technology alert list) based on your education and/or current job. In the past, such 221g were resolved in 3-4 weeks. I don’t know what the current timeline is (a friend who got stuck w/ similar 221g in December go approval in late Jan).
Hi Saurabh,
Got the reply today. They stated that “the administrative processing is complete for the application” and asked to submit my passport along with the printout of docs mentioned in the 221g slip. But my visa status is still the same. Please let me know, is the sign of visa approval or pending?
somya,
It is hard to say, but it is a positive sign. They usually ask for passport when they are about to issue the visa stamp.
Hi Saurabh,
I am stuck with the same 221 G queries, Invite letter, purpose, research etc.. Can you please share the response template please
My f1 visa interview(for masters) was on 23rd feb 2016, i didn’t carry my father’s bank statement and VO told me to submit my dad’s bank statement and checked box which says others and he written on the 221g white form that father’s financial documentation. I submitted all the require documents and waiting. Is there any possibility that i can reapply F1 visa again when it is undrr 221g?
Please help me
Avinash,
Technically you can, but consulate can say that you already have a pending visa stamping process and may refuse to accept your interview.
Hi Sourabh,
I got a 221g blue slip for my H1B on Friday 19th Feb @ Chennai consulate.
It’s only marked
“Your application requires additional administrative process ing before final decision could be made”.
VO asked only few simple questions.
First he wanted contract doc between vendor and the client (EVC model) which I didn’t have. When I gave him the MSA and the old client letter he didn’t want this doc and checked only this check box.
prior to that he wanted me to reappear for interview after mailing him the contract doc.
Now my boubt is no PP taken, no documents requested. But he gave me the white booklet for ” Rights of a non immigrant worker” when he travels to US. This is usually given once visa is approved .
Do you see any positive sign.
It would help if you can shed some light on this.
Thanks,
Raj3
Hi Raj,
I am 221g white slip holder. usually “Rights of a non immigrant worker” should be given after visa approved. But for H1B they issued prior only. Because most of the H1B’s are positive. Please dont worry about 221g blue slip. Be patience, because for blue slip you can’t even track the status of the processing.
In my case I got 221g white slip on 21Jan 2016 with check box on Aditional administrative proccessing. It might take few months. But god is great. I got stamping on 16feb2016. So please keep hope on this.
All the best
Thanks Suni for responding. Congrats that your stamping is done..
Raj3,
Unfortunately, I don’t think giving that booklet is a positive sign. Taking passport is the positive sign.
Will be able to get the vendor-client contract?
Thanks Sourabh for the response. I can get that contract copy but in the form they haven’t requested for any document though..
What do I do ? Do I need to mail them and ask if they require any additional documents
Regards,
Raj3
Raj3,
Sorry, I read your question wrong. If they haven’t asked for any documents, then there is nothing for you to do at this point. Maybe they will contact client and vendor offline to do the verification of contract b/w them.
Thanks Sourabh. Looks like that is there intension.
Hi Saurabh,
Today, I got a mail from US Travel docs saying ”
Your document(s) have been collected from the US Embassy/Consulate
The passport number being returned is XXXXX
You have chosen to have your documents delivered to the following location”
But, they had not collected my passport while Visa Interview & the status still shows as “Administrative Processing” .
Could you please let me know why do mean by sending this mail ?
Thanks a lot for all your help and support.
Regards,
Raj3
Raj3,
Although they didn’t mention clearly whether it is approved or not, I think it means approval. Else, they would have updated the status to something like your petition is being sent back to USCIS for reconsideration and possible revocation. Still, one can’t be 100% sure until you receive your passport.
Sorry to bother you again and again Saurabh. It’s not a very good news …I went to vfc and got the docs returned by consulate.
:
Another blue slip but nothing new ticked.
Only check box ticked is your application needs additional administrative processing before final decision can be made.
They have returned all the photocopies taken during interview like MSA , client letter, vendor letter.
Application status still shows âdmin processing.
Passport is with me only..was not taken at the time of interview.
Why do think photo copies returned.
Regards,
Raj3
Raj3,
Oh that is unfortunate. Maybe they have made copies for themselves and have returned everything to you (just a guess). Now you have to just wait it out.
Hi Sourabh
In my 221g blue slip case for h1b they contacted the mid vendor company (EVC) with set of questions asking them to confirm on the MSA document submitted at the time of visa interview.. Like confirmation of signature ect… And vendor was given one week respond( by 18th march).
Vendor had responded by 16th March and my case is showing last updated date as 21st March..still as admin processing..
Any idea what could be there next step ?
Thanks a lot for your value inputs.
Raj3,
They would evaluate the responses submitted by middle vendor and then complete their processing. No idea how long it would take.
Hi Saurabh ,
I have 221g blue slip for h1 and contacted vendor for verification and it was promptly provided. However I had submitted the end client letter which is 6 months old. Now the consulate has contacted the end client for verification..the problem is they have hiring freeze and don’t have any openings..
They would reply no positions available now..
1) In this case what are my options ?
2) will they refuse the visa ?
3) what wil happen to my 797 petition Approval ?
4) can I appear for interview s for another client (with same employer and vendor ) and if I get a offer ..do I need wthdraw this ds-160 ? And reapply for visa again ?
Sorry about do many questions..
It would be kind of you if can answer them.
Thanks and regards
Raj3
Raj3,
1) In this case what are my options ?
>> Find another project. Then file new LCA and H-1 amendment and reappear for stamping. Or you can move to another employer
2) will they refuse the visa ?
>> Possibly if the client answers in negative
3) what wil happen to my 797 petition Approval ?
>> They may send the 797 back to USCIS for reconsideration, who would then issue NOID to employer
4) can I appear for interview s for another client (with same employer and vendor ) and if I get a offer ..do I need wthdraw this ds-160 ? And reapply for visa again ?
>> Yes. See (1)
Hi Saurabh,
Thanks a lot for your quick response for my today’s queries..
May God Bless you..
Hi Saurabh,
Today I received a mail from “Channai H&L” to submit my passport along with the attached 221g form [only Submit Passport is ticked in the form], to the nearest Visa Application Center.
Please let me know if this a good sign ?
Thanks a lot to you for all your support.
Raj3,
Yes, this is a positive sign. Typically they ask for passport only when they are ready to issue visa stamp. Keep fingers crossed.
Hello,
I’ve been dealing with a K-1 Visa issue for my wife since 2012.
I’m a US citizen, my wife is Cambodian, we got married back in Dec, 2012.
Our case was approved by the USCIS, DHS, DOJ, DOS, and the NVC.
However, after my wife’s interview at the US Consulate in Phnom Penh, the consulate officer handed her a form 221(g) and stated that she is ineligible for a visa.
He did not ask for her passport and stated that he needed additional advise from Washington D.C.
Our case has now been placed under “Administrative Processing” and her documents have been sent to Washington.
I’m a bit worried now, as we’ve also had a daughter in 2013, we filed a (CRBA, or Form FS-240) and the embassy in Cambodia did issue a passport for our daughter and she is considered a US Citizen.
I’ve talked to an immigration attorney and this office stated that my that my wife is most likely going to be denied immigrant status. And he recommended that we start planning living arrangements for our daughter.
My question is, is it legal that the consulate can accept our daughter as a US citizen, and then denied my wife’s visa, although multiple US departments already approved her status?
Hi saurabh,
I am working in MNC in India. I got an offer from US company for client project.
Got petition approved in 1st Dec 2015. Attended for visa stamping on 21jan2016. Interviewer told to wait in lobby.
After 1 hour again called me and asked me to show all my documents.
I have shown all documents related to my employement and client letter.
They took my passport and copy of I797 and issued 221g white paper with tick mark on ADMINISTATOR PROCESISNG and said “it will take 7 working days to
process, you can your case status in online by trakcking ID”.
I gave resignation in India hoping that H1B as I have to serve 90days notice period. Now I am serving notice period which is only 30 days left from today.
I dont no what to do..I understood from some forums that there is SLA for 221g, it might take 1 month to 2 years.
I spoke to my employer they are telling to wait for some time. Consulate didn’t ask any supporting document till now.
Is there any way to followup the application.
H1b_221gWhite_21jan2016_sunil,
Unfortunately, like you read online, there is no SLA and no good way to track it. As it has passed 60 day mark, your attorney can follow-up w/ DHS in US, but they may or may not provide any meaningful information.
Do you know if they did a verification w/ the client?
Hi Saurabh
Thanks for your reply. Till now I didn’t get any details from my client/employer regarding verification. Really don’t know what to do..This kills so much. Till now all was good from starting to final approval. I thought of flying as some people said H1B visa stamping is easy to get .
Hi Saurabh,
For me consular issued 221g which is having check mark on Additional administrative processing.
What is the difference between Administrative processing and Additional administrative processing ??
In ustraveldocs I read that Administrative processing will resolve in 60 days and Additional administrative processing will took more time it seems.
Please help on this.
H1b_221gWhite_21jan2016_sunil,
The difference is just semantics. Both are in Admin processing. Although they have mentioned 60 days, it is not an SLA and can take much longer than that.
Hi saurabh,
Thanks for your reply. I just checked status of 221g. Status showing issued. Is this mean visa stamped right? Or else any further pending…
Sunil,
Yes, it is approved. You should receive email/SMS confirmation soon.
Hi Saurabh,
Got mail from Ustraveldocs saying that “Your document(s) have been collected from the US Embassy/Consulate
The passport number being returned is A1234567
You have chosen to have your documents delivered to the following location”
Hello,
I have applied for my parents visitor visa in New Delhi consulate. And have some conerns about the interview.
1. In DS160 for my father’s previous employer I have mentioned Rubber Factory, which is no more operational since 1999 and he runs a business since then. Does Rubber Factory comes in TAL alert list? Is there any need to worry about this 15 year old work history?
2. What if they give him 221 slip in the interview ? Can he ask for his passport back at the consulate counter itself as he has plans of travelling to Germany next moth.
Priya,
1. It is not possible to know what industries fall under TAL, but I don’t think this does
2. Yes, he can request the passport back stating this reason. BTW, there is also a possibility that they say that visa is approved and then put it in administrative processing later.
Thanks for the response Saurabh.
Do you know the process to request to return passport in case consulate put it in administrative processing later?
Also in your opinion how frequent they put parents visitor’s visa case in administrative processing, when all the sponsor and supporting documents are up-to the mark and the applicant has strong ties with the home country.
Priya,
You will have to contact the consulate and ask them about it. Different consulates may follow different process, but most likely they will ask for a letter to be submitted.
If everything is in order, then it should be fine. Usually they put it in administrative processing b/c of security concerns, social ties and financial ties. Looks like you have everything covered.
My interview is completed on Dec 21 2015. Till today USCIS did not contact the client or employer . does it means it will take more time? still showing as admin process
AGB,
As there is no set SLA, they can decide to contact client later. You just need to wait it out.
Hi Saurabh,
90 days crossed after my interview which was held on dec 21 2015. till now neither employer nor client contacted. do you think it is bad sign. My employer visa rank is 569 and he is in good position and he is working out of california.
AGB,
At times it is delayed and delay doesn’t mean denial. So be patient and wait.
133 days completed. apr 11th ceac status date updated. not clilent and employer contacted so far. i do not know what is happening.
I was stranded for 4 months due to the 221g citing additional information was required despite working for a US based employer(not a consulting firm) and having all possible documentation that was requested. The only additional questions asked were my height and how many passports I held. The seemingly arbitrary nature of the issuance of 221g makes it even more difficult for some of us law abiding tax paying hard working individuals. Unfortunately the pink 221g form states do not contact us before 90 days have passed else it could result in additional delays. Due to the very nature of the H1 visa, few employers will tend to retain an employee who has no definite SLA on visa processing and cannot even give a ballpark estimate on when he/she would return to the US to work. Although the need for some such cases is required for security, the 8/10 cases where clearance is obtained and the visa issued, the life of the stranded person gets significantly altered in ways one can only imagine. One of the end results seen is that people shun leaving the US even if there is a death in the family fearing the possibility that they might not return due to a denied visa although they may have received approvals several times in the past. This Heisenberg’s unpredictability to visa processing must end and I hope someone heeds the plight of such law abiding wayfarers or considers a reformed process.
SR,
In my experience, pink slips are issued in case of TAL (Technology Alert List). Do you have a common muslim name or work in a specialized industry like pharma, biotech etc?
Mine took 3months n finally got my visa. But u should bother them always to enquire about ur administrative status. If they return ur passport, they may wait from u n see if ure serious about ur travel to the USA.
Thank you so much for ur response.
My wife went for interview in ghana on 30th November 2015 and thegive her white slip like she can not have visa
And they didn’t tell her any thing else when I check it it’s say administration process any ideas
Hello im in the states my husband is in his country (Ghana ). He had his interview in July 2015, which he was given a white paper with no instructions on what to do next. This is very frustrating and stressful. His country held on to our documents all this time, now its December they finally has sent them to the uscis for further investigation. Non sense to me. I was reading a blog and it stated that Ghana, Nigeria, China and a few other countries are on high alert to issue visa. My husband and i have been together for over 7 yrs and married for 2 in a half yrs. They refused him 3 times before i decided to go over and get married. I dont won’t to waste ur time but to encourage someone else to hold on and pray for directions and understanding cause for an american we dont understand why. If you wanted to do wrong then they would give you a visa but if you do things the right then they send you thru hell but we know who has the last say so. Alex i want you to tell your wife everyday you love her and here waiting for her arrival. Stay encourage.
Thanks for your advice and encouragement because we’re so stranded, we love our self, we like to have our kids I can’t let my to pregnant and stay alone in ghana where I’m in America please s
Alex3,
Looks like that she has been issued 221g. There is nothing you can do except to wait. Call the US consulate in your country to get an update, or see if they allow tracking status online on the consulate website.
Hi 221G.
Did you receive any response?
My interview was on Dec 21 and no client verification completed so far?
No response ;-( .called US travel docs. No update ;-(
Hi 221g,
is your client or employer contacted till date?
is any progress did you see on your case?
did you call NVC?
hi did you get any response
My petition is sent back t o USCIS
Saurabh,
Is there any chance for it to get approved again?
My husband’s interview was on 27 jan 2015 they gave him a white paper with no box check i mean no objection but they asked for new i864 after that we didnt proceed and my case was revoked on 3 jun 2015.and i didnt received any mail or i797 and right now i am in my home country.tell me if any body know some thing…
Can i still reopen my case or i have to file new one
Mahi,
Was this the only H-1 petition your husband ever had, or did he have another petition through same/different employer?
i filed I130 the spouse visa
221g,
USCIS will either reinstate the petition or issue NOID. If they issue NOID and revoke the petition, that is the end of the road for that petition.
Does any one have idea on whether document request in221g would take more time or if generic additional admin processing would require more time . ?
221g,
It is not possible to give a definite answer, but in my experience generic 221g get resolved quickly. So the fastest would be trivial ones like PIMS update, followed by TAL, followed by employer/client/project related, followed by namesecurity check.
Hi
My interview was on Dec 18, and mine is an in-house project. VO asked me basic questions and then he asked for my employer tax documents which I didnt have.Later he issued 221g and marked it as additional administrative processing required and returned my passport. If any of you had similar experience or any idea on when there is a chance to receive response from them.
Hi,
For me also they have raised the blue slip 221g in chennai consulate.
They took i797 original and several project documents and LCA and petition as well. Please update here your status once status changed.
When did your interview happen ?
21 dec 2015
Ok. Looks like it will take a long time ;(
Min 2 weeks it will take. we can not say how much it will take it is pure luck.
hello 221g.
did you get any update for your case?
I didn’t get any.
Hi 221g,
for your case any client verification or any moment happened as both of our cases completed 30 days after interview.
Nothing at all . its still the same. My employer was not contacted. What about u
Same to my wife after the interview nothing happened
Hi saurab,
Thanx a lot for ur reply…but already for b1 i had administrative process n waited for several months..almost a year…so will that help me now to speed up my process as i went through same process before itself…plz help
Taqiyya,
Old B-1 was 7 years ago. I can’t say for sure, but I think they would still go through the usual timeframe. As this may be a security check, no one knows for sure what their process and policy is. One can only guess and remain helpful.
Hi,
I had my h1b intrview in chennai consulate on 9th dec 2015..my intrview went well bt finally gt blue slip for additional administrative process..during my b1 visa intrview also i got administrative process on 2008 for that they took 1 yr to complete the process with my old passport…will it speed up my current administrative process??..plz give your expert suggestions…
Taqiyya,
If it is security check due to a common Muslim name, then it can take some time. There is no set SLA.
Hi All,
Need your help. I came for my marriage. Today went along with my wife to get H1 and H4 stamping. Interview went well, interviewer asked my petition. Gave my petition to him. He told from my side everything is ok. But he could not find the petition in system. Finally he gave a 221 G blue slip saying need some more administrative processing time.
How much time will it take for them to respond? How are my chances of visa getting approved ?
Appreciate someone help and guidance.
Thanks !
Krishna
Krishna,
They look for petition in PIMS. If its not there, 221g is issued while it gets updated in PIMS. Follow-up w/ attorney if they know that petition was updated in PIMS.
Hi,
I attended VISA interview for H1 b. After answering all questions, he asked my CV and passport. Then he gave 221(g) blue color slip, mentioning “further administrative process”. VO retained my CV and passport. Its been a week and the status is same “Administrative processing”.
Don’t know, what will happen. Anybody with the similar case ?
Regards,
Rajeev
This July when I went for my interview it was a similar experience. It took 3 weeks. what helps is calling the Dept. of State phone number in Washington DC which might speed things up or may not. I am a Chemical Engineer working in the Biotechnology industry, so I was in the Technology alert List (TAL). The worst part is they wont let you know. What could also help (I have heard, but not sure if it works) if your employer could call the DOS and followup with them regarding the status.
There are only a certain few steps we can do, other than waiting patiently for things to work out. Good Luck!!
I got H1B approval in MAY 2014 and i went to visa stamping in OCT 2014 to NEWDELHI….they dint give any slips just they asked to send some documents along with the passport (for 221g) i sent all the documents with the passport in Hyderabd on DEC 2014.
From then it is showing as Administarative processing….now it is OCT 2015(coming within hrs) still it is showing as AP….its been 9 months…..called to customer care many times….no use…and they told that they can escalate the case only once a month….wat to do….this waiting period really hurts…..got approval but still pending….and my passport is also with them only….
Any suggestions please …..what to do just to wait? does this happen to anyone?
This is really scary 🙁
Don’t worry Rajesh. One of my friend got approval after 1 year 2 months. For him also same they kept passport 1 year 2 months.
Thank you so much….rocky for ur reply….this is reallly a soothing answer to me…this shouldnt happen to anyone……its already 10 months am stilll waiting for my passport….this AP processs is very frustrating….
Hi Friends,
I had applied for B1/B2 visa at chennai consulate. Officer asked couple of questions which i answered in confidence. He asked about my purpose of visit, place that i would go, what i would do their, my work nature, return date, educational qualifications and i answered all of them. He checked my invite letter as well. Later he said there is no confusion from my side but still my passport will go into further administration process and then the will issue the visa and they took the passport. They asked me to mail the invite letter and resume which i did very same day. Its been 3 week now and status has not been changed at all. When i mailed the they replied me saying it is still under process. I am now worried about my next steps.
CEAC shows Case creation date: 25 Aug 2015
Case updated date : 26 Aug 2015.
Hey Shruthi,
Its the same case with me too. I have applied for B1/B2 at Montreal and its been 3 weeks as of today. How long did the whole process take ? and when did you see the first status update in CEAC?
got 221g resolution in 3 days. Approved.
Hi Pawan
I have applied for B1/ B2 visa. They have asked me to submit resume and other documents. Can you just tell me the way of attaching documents and send to their mail.
At the time of interview i was told that i will be issued visa and was surprised when i was returned the passport with a white slip later at visa collection centre after 4 days where it said that my visa was refused under 221g. I was supposed to attend the conference in a month. They have asked the same docs that i had with me at the time of interview. I have deposited all docs in a e mailas asked by them, should i deposit the passport at the centre or should i wait till i hear from them
Don’t ask anything just submit what they want but review it carefully, don’t submit your passport unit it is advised by the US consulate
Hello Sharma Ji,
Did you get your VISA stamped?
Madras consulate on July 2 for H1B stamping (first time-non profit Univ.) and received blue slip 221g-other-admin processing. As of July 17 (night-IST), it still shows admin processing. VO asked for few questions regarding nature of work and educational qualifications and then requested for resume and offer letter and kept the passport with him. I asked him how long will the processing take and he said dont know, and dont make any travels plans. Also mentioned “look at the bright side, Iam still keeping your passport”. I said Thank You and have a good Day.
Problem is my new PI has indicated they want me by Aug 3rd otherwise I can kiss the job’s arse goodbye!! I have left behind my car and belongings in storage and have been burning cash for the same.
Background Info:
I have already worked for another non-profit on H1B for 3 years as Lab Manager. 2nd position title is Assistant Research Scientist. (Non-IT, Chemical Engineering/Biomedical Nanotechnology field)
Travelled to the India in 2010 as F-1 student for stamping in Madras and admin processing during my Doctorate. took around 4 weeks to get my passport back with the VISA.
In 2010 my SEVIS ID was untraceable and University sent me the new I-20 in less than 2 days and after submitting to Consulate took close to 4 weeks!!
Any idea what might be happening?
im in the same boat ..i did my under graduation in biotechnology and gng to persue masters in bioinformatics..v dont have any option except ‘wait’
Hi,
Were you renewing your H1B visa? Did you opt for the drop box? Also, when reserving a date at the consulate, did you answer the questions “Were you denied a visa before?” – Yes or No.
Thanks,
Sowmya
Hello,
I had applied of 2014 h1b cap and attended interview in dubai consulate in May2015 in which I got yellow paper. After 1month of interview got email asking for additional documents but my employer is not able to provide the client documents as the process took so long due to which clients rejects to provide additional document. Asking me to withdraw 221G and to attend interview taking another client documents and says my h1b application would be 6 years valid to apply with any client or employer without going for lottery system. My question is , does my h1b 221g withdraw ed application valid for 6 years to re apply with another client without attending lottery system.
Kindly some one please clarify me.
Thanks,
Ajay
I am not sure if it’s open for 6 yrs but Yes, I know that d following year U can apply for H1B with a different employer n not go thru d lottery system. U can fix up n go for a Visa interview with d required docs.
I had my f1 visa interview last week and Vo said visa is approved, but after 1 week also the status is”administrative process” and at the interview i was not given any slip or insruction, they just took my passport. can any one help me on this

i called customer care and sent few mails.
I received it couple of days back.

I don’t have received 221G letter; they have took my passport and 10 days past of my interview. still my status show Administrative processing. What does this means?
My spouse along with my 4 year old son went for stamping(H4) in Chennai, India a week ago. The interview was short and they informed her that she will get a message to collect the passport in 3 days, but when I checked the status, it is showing as administrative processing. She was also not given any 221 g slip. Not sure whats going on? Please help.

The status changed as Issued in exactly 2 weeks and the passport is also stamped by God’s grace.
Hey congrats
When u had visa interview? How many days it took? Did u follow any procedure or report this problem anywhere?
Thanks.
hello!i had an b1/b2 visa interview on 2 june at delhi.Vo asked me to submit my passport at a counter and asked to submit additional documents..they took my passport and given me 221g.
can anybody tell me collecting passport is possitive sign?I tried check on us website it is showing your visa application is currently under processing.
I was given 221g in 2011 and I have submitted all the requested docs and never heard back from consulate. Does this mean its rejected. If I go to VISA now, should I say my visa was rejected once earlier while filling ds 160.
I have attended H1B interview in London along with my wife and kid on 29th Apr 2015. Given 221g white slip with out asking any extra document. The VO told me that there is an issue with my employer and cant provide the visa. I checked the site but still my batch number not appearing, will it take time to update there?.

Hello experts,
I attended H1b Visa Interview 13th feb 2015 @ chennai office along with my wife and 8 month old daughter. VO asked me few general Questions like “Company details, Client name, project description, salary and he asked to mywife ” How long have you been married and her education details.
After all he asked me to submit all documents. I submitted LCA, I797 , i129 , Client letter, counsilate letter, offer letter , company and client contract details, agrement etc. After all he has returned all doc’s and kept all 3 passport with Him and issued sblue slip (221g) marked in check box “your application required additional admin process before a final decision can be made”.
I asked him do i need to submit any documents. But he told me not required ,the process wont take much time. but will take few weeks and passport will deliver to your drop address.
Now after 3 hrs, when i check my status online it says under admin process..
Can some one help me to know. how long this will take and what process it require to complete.
appreciate your response
thanks in advance
Arun
Took 55 days for me to get it. Can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. Not to scare you. That’s the reality.
Hi kannan, may I ask what is the problem of your papers. I petitioned my mom after her interview 2 days later they send us a letter and we got this section 221(g)and they asking for more proof of relationship and my mom old nbi clearance. Thank you
I got 221g on Nov 28th 2015… and it got approve Feb 18th 2014.. They the document to USCIS… and then they send it back to local US consulates.. Based on Queue it delay. Normally USCIS will complete the process in couple week.. Only local consulate will take more time.. Chennai and kolkata has more number application in 221g -admin process… No worries mostly it will cleared after client response to USCIS… only problem i had is secure the job and other thing like apartment…
