I know many of you have been waiting for the update on the H1B Visa 2016 petitions awaiting receipt numbers and the lottery results. It has been painful wait as always for many of you waiting… Earlier today USCIS released a news alert indicating that the Data Entry is completed for all the H1B petitions selected in lottery for the fiscal year 2016. Below is the quick summary and analysis.
Summary : H1B Petitions Data Entry Complete
- USCIS announced that they completed data entry for all the H1B petitions that were selected in the lottery.
- USCIS will start to return all the petitions that were not selected in lottery and mail out all the rejection notices.
- USCIS does NOT promise any time frame for returning the packages not selected in lottery due to the high volume and they ask employers/ petitioners not to inquire USCIS regarding their petition until they receive a receipt or return package.
What can we take away from this news alert from USCIS ?
In the past USCIS did not release any news alert like today regarding the data entry of applications. Many websites have been speculating that data entry is complete and spreading some rumors…I believe, USCIS has released this alert just to confirm everyone that the data entry is complete from their end and have all the stake holders on the same page…
It seems like the DHS Note to All SEVIS users released last week, has been generating quite a bit of inquiries regarding the filed H1B petitions to USCIS…this alert is to clarify to everyone that they should not reach out to USCIS regarding their petition until they get some information from USCIS.
What is missing from this news alert for all the petitioners is that they have not given a time frame on when the employers/ petitioners can expect to receive the rejected petitions that were not selected in the H1B 2016 Lottery . This could be very frustrating for everyone waiting for their petitions.
When to expect H1B case Receipts ? Rejection Notices or Return Packages ?
If your petition was premium and selected in lottery this year, you should have already got something in email as the 15 days SLA for those petitions’ is May 11th, either for a decision or any action like RFE, etc.. If your petition was filed under regular processing, what I guess is that, if your petition was selected in lottery and receipted, if you have not received anything yet, you should expect your H1B case receipt notice in mail in the next couple of weeks….If you do not hear anything in the next 15 days or so, you probably need to think about your other options…
Having said that, you cannot be really sure if your petition was not selected until you get a rejection notice or return of your original package. Last year, USCIS mailed out rejection notices for petitions not selected in lottery until late June. What USCIS mentioned today is that they will release an alert indicating if they have mailed out all the rejection notices. Well, lets hope they mail out those notices soon so that it cuts down the wait for many waiting anxiously…We wrote an article last year around your options, you can read the Options, if NOT selected in H1B Lottery so that you can be prepared… Also, I request you to update your petition’s details in our H1B Case Tracker, so that others can get some high level info. The information is fully anonymous as it does not show any personal details.
As I always say, if you are lucky, you would probably get H1B receipt number, if NOT…don’t worry, it has nothing to do with your talent or education…it is an external factor and you should not lose your confidence on yourself…it is not the only destiny and end of your life’s dream…Just take your setback as an opportunity to explore options to work in other parts of the world…We will try to write articles on other parts of the world.

If you and your friends’s H1 is filed on same day, there is no necessity that both of you to get a receipt on the same day. There are multiple factors for this. And also its quiet possible that your petition is not picked. Not to disappoint you, but the chances now are very less.
Mindtree has declared its first slot of H1B selected cases…
Dont know how many more slots. But few falks are saying that if your name is not there in first slot then chances are less now…

This may not be easy to digest but by May 11th all the PP cases should have been processed. So no hopes unless you know for sure your case was selected.
Wondering if there are quotas for different fields. As in Engineering/Design/Software/Hardware. Or is it all drawn from one pool irrespective of field of work.

All are in the same pool. The only difference is there’s a quota for advanced degree of 20,000. How it works is..if you have an advanced degree you will be initially placed in the 20K quota and if you are not selected then you are moved to the regular quota of 65K

The lottery results have started coming in from the USCIS; this comes as individual cases and not in batches; thus as of now it is being consolidated and the list is with the attorneys. Once all the information is available to GX Team, this would be shared with the onshore managers by the first week of June. GX Team would request to wait till then. However, if you do not hear anything by end of first week please reach out to GX Team

Look guys, there is this theory in finance where it says that the market will be where it’s supposed to be…hmm, so lets apply that principle on ourselves..we will be where we are supposed to be..it’s great if we get the h1 but if we don’t then that opens our doors to other opportunities..you never know. I myself am going for a masters in finance at washington univ in st louis..I am sure the opportunity there will open more doors for me than the one that is about to close. so dont worry, things will be fine after all and you will end up where you deserve to be. good lucksssss!
Have rcvd an email from my consultant saying my case was’nt picked up in the lottery. [basis to confim , cheque was not cleared ] i right away called them and spoke. They said they havent heard anything from the usics yet but its too late by now if they have to receive a receipt, with that said now that they have’nt heard anything from uscis and the cheque relating to my case was not cleared hence it is 99.99% that the case was not picked up. All hopes ended 🙁

Don’t get panic, have patience. Either you should get receipt number or rejection letter. I mean yes or no. Until then we have no choice but to wait. I know the agony of waiting. I heard Accenture will release result in 4 lots. 3 lots are still pending and result will be announced in a gap of 7 to 10 days… and finally the pending ones will turn into rejection at June End. Is this True ?

I got the receipt number on May 1st, but after 20 days, I still getting the “My Case Status does not recognize the receipt number entered.” on the USCIS website.
I have the correct number, once I got the copy of the notice. However this feels so unsettling not being able to be sure if I will go thru the process or not.
Lawyer says this is normal: don’t worry about it. Some posts says “USCIS website is crap, nevermind”.
But after being rejected last year, I can’t feel better until be sure my receipt number is not just a mistake. You know, lots of folks sad for not getting the receipt yet (more than twice those got the receipt) – I know exactly how they feel like. :/

I have called USCIS, they said “having problem at website does not necessarily mean something is wrong, but if you want to change that, then your lawyer should call, not you”, which essentially does not mean anything. Lawyer says it is ok. Anyone had experience with this problem?

Every Thursday or Wednesday they are sharing excel regarding selection. Till now two sheets has been sent.
There are total two sheets shared yet. Specific to Manufacturing ISU almost 50-60 candidates got selected out of 430 (If I am not wrong).

My Employer had clearly informed that the result will be disclosed no later than first week of June 2015. looking at others comments, I feel this is best way of disclosing results as no bothering knowing the final result of all filled cases will be disclosed on same day to each and everyone. Till than no perceptions 🙂

I got to know that final list of candidates will be sent on Thursday 28th , status updates and emails will be sent out until Friday 29th.
GIMS is saying different things to different people , Yesterday i again called GIMS, now they are saying they are sending emails to only selected guys . GIMS is assuming that by till may end they will receive the notification from usics . so now chances are going reduce day by day but still there are chances till may end .

I would suggest not to go by numbers , GIMS offshore guys are just guessing and confusing people. Hope for the best.

I was able to see the receipt number till yesterday in I-Aura, but there was no update in the workflow neither any email from ISG.
today the next step “ISG to Update USCIS Receipt Number” got updated in the work flow and reveived an email from ISG saying

I got the info from the WPC SPOC ..that the receipt numbers were not supposed to be shared as per the company policy…but the vendor did that by mistake.
But, the receipt numbers showing till yesterday were correct, and you can keep tracking it in USCIS website.
They will never update the number in I-aura for the H1B Cap applicants not in US. It will will be revealed only at the time of Visa stamping interview.

If the response in the USCIS site is”Case Was Received and A Receipt Notice Was Emailed” then it’s PP else if the response is “Case Was Received ” then it’s RP…same with Approval cases..if the response is “Case Was Approved And My Decision Was Emailed” then it’s PP else if the response is “Case Was Approved ” then it’s RP…..

if you hate the process, ask your HRs, PMs, Managers and your colleagues in your company not to apply 1000’s of applications. Then USCIS will not conduct a lottery. You are in India and you have a job. what’s your frustration here? and what is there to hate here when they get 233k applications? if you hate this process and get frustrated, what about the people who are in US and packing their stuff to return back? Just imagine if you were in that situation. this hate is much more better than that. so stay positive and don’t try to hate anything. It’s their country and their process. They choose this becoz companies like where you are working are applying and screwing up the whole system.
Come one man, you are speaking about people who already traveled to us where many people here dreaming about first journey.
But man you should think about them. They are already in debt with education loan and all….at least you are not in that situation. Its a horrible dream for them to come back india without a job with a huge amount of loan.
I thought there’s a way to extend stay in the US for the desperate ones by extending course duration voluntarily. One should be able to earn sufficient amount in that period so as to clear the debt if they have actually learnt something in the US under respective AD program. Quit bitching , this was always a possibility and should have been planned in advance. No long term plan should be dependent upon H1B.

I understand your frustration and I think it is very unfair for USCIS to conduct the lottery, but H1B is specialized skill visa and has nothing to do with the country. I agree companies like Wipro, TCS etc. have started abusing the system and this is affecting all of us
