What is the H1B Visa 2019 season start date ?
Update : USCIS will start accepting H1B Petitions starting from April 2nd, 2018 as per their official update on their website. In general, USCIS starts accepting applications for the next fiscal year exactly 6 months before the start of the next fiscal year. USCIS fiscal year for 2019 starts from 1st October 2018, which means they should accept applications for FY 2019 from April 1st, 2018. As April 1st is a Sunday, USCIS should accept applications for H1B 2019 season from April 2nd, 2019.

What is H1B visa 2019 Quota for Regular and Masters filings ?
As of the date of writing of article, the H1B quota is as below. This is also called the H1B Visa Cap. You can read more at What is H1B Cap ? Regular vs Masters quota ?

  • H1B Regular Quota : 65,000 visas
  • H1B Master’s Quota : 20,000 visas. ( only US Masters eligible)

Also, of the overall 85,000 visa cap, every year 6,800 visas are set aside for the citizens of Singapore and Chile as part of the Free Trade Agreement with them. There were few bills part of Comprehensive Immigration Reform that are not active in Senate that were proposed from Obama administration days to change the cap count to 110,000 and Masters to 25,000, including potential to make H1B cap extend up to 180,000. But nothing has moved and all are dormant. Nothing new has been proposed by the new Trump Administration regarding changing cap count. Will there be Lottery for H1B 2019 season ? Lottery Predictions ? Filing Numbers ?
Update : USCIS had lottery for FY 2019 quota and received 190,098 petitions.
Looking at the historical trend of H1B filings, cap reach dates, it is quite possible that we would have lottery for FY 2019 quota.  We have written a detail article looking at historical data, Trump administration new policies like ‘Buy American, Hire American’, students on OPT, H4 EAD removal rule, etc. factors. To know the prediction numbers and details, read the article:  H1B Visa 2019 Lottery Predictions – Analysis, Graphs .

When is H1B Visa 2019 Lottery Date ?
Update : USCIS Conducted Lottery for FY 2019 on April 11, 2018.
There are two things, one is when the H1B petitions are accepted for the lottery and second is when the actual lottery is done. H1B visa petitions for next fiscal year would be accepted by USCIS from April 2nd, 2018 for 5 working days until April 6th, 2018 to be part of the lottery. Now, the actual lottery date depends on various factors depending the volume of petitions and USCIS load. It can be anywhere in second week of April. For FY 2018, the actual H1B Lottery was done on April 11th, 2017 . We can expect anywhere around the same date like April 11th or April 13th.

How to find H1B visa 2019 Sponsors ?
It can be very hard to find a good employer and convince them to sponsor H1B to work in US with major unknown like H1B Visa lottery. Anyways, you would be in one of the three scenarios, if you are seeking a H1B Sponsor.

  • F1 Student in US : You can find an internship or co-op at an employer who can sponsor H1B visa and ask them to sponsor your H1B. You can continue to work on OPT once you graduate as well. You find the list of H1B Sponsoring companies using the tool
  • International Professionals  : If you are outside of US, it can be tricky with all the latest rules by Trump administration. Your best bet is to find an multi-national company ( MNC) and work through them to sponsor H1B visa. You may have hurdles inside the company with all the internal process, many waiting, etc. But, it is up to you to negotiate and ask them to take a chance. Many try the IT body shop route, where they ask them to file H1B. Rules have changed in the last few years and it is very risky move and can jeopardize your US hopes. Read comments on this H1B Companies Reviews article  to get an idea and  beware of such consulting companies to avoid fraud.
  • Important Note : We, as RedBu2US, DO NOT Provide any H1B sponsorship or guide anyone using professional services or fee. If anyone approaches you by saying our name, it is pure FRAUD…beware !

Why can’t USCIS post who won the lottery or at least let us seach by the name and birthday? Why does everyone suffer for many weeks. So bad

  4. Hi Guys,
Today (04.26.18) my employer told me that my check was deposited. This was my 2nd year but 3rd attempt of trying my luck for H1B. My petition was filed under Master’s quota. Last year, my H1B cap exempt was denied from same employer (I work for a consultancy but there is no vendor). Reason for denial was that they did not recognized Client as cap exempt eligible organization. Do you think if I will get any trouble for previous denial? I am working for the same client for a over an year now.
My other question is- do they process picked petitions based on Last name or First name? Is there any this kind of criteria at all?
    Thank you in advance!

    • It does suck!! I’m non-AD too, no news here, and in my circle no one has heard anything yet either (all people I know who are applying are working for different startups in California, so I guess that is processing center for all of us). I guess the fact no one has said much about non-ADs yet is good, there’s still hope. 🙂
Maybe today is the day, or tomorrow, or next week… haha.

Last year I got my rejection in June… but by mid May I was kinda hopeless already. There’s still time.
But yeah, we’re all going a bit crazy with the waiting… xD

Can I change to day 1 cpt during my 60 day grace period? My cap gap expires on 01 june and university has a start date of july 13. Plz advise.

    • Bro if you already know that your petiton is picked stay away from CPT because cpt has always faced added scrutiny.

If you are non AD you still have a fair chance of getting selected in the lottery. Its totally your decision and What you said is right. You can always go for july 13th with 1st day CPT. Your call brother, just choose wisely.

After all its a bloody manual process in this 21st century…

Given that it’s a lottery there is a probability that your receipt is being sent in the very very last batch….

Its a game of poker… stay in the game till the last card opens….

    Best luck everyone!!

  11. Can these TCS and CTS or wipro or wheatever guys stop commenting – First of all your question are repetitive , second of all your portals insync or zoom or whatever that is, it works totally different from people in US. The kind of question you ask and increase the crowd with stupid question makes me feel like you will die if you guys don’t get H1b.

This is not about deserving or not, its just plain stupid. Instead of positing things you should just review 3-4 pages of comment on this forum.

Common guys you know how things in India work. You guys are also well aware of the fact that Indian companies don’t even apply for half of these candidates and they just say they did. That money is showed up in their business transaction to they management but in the end all the money gets pocketed by middle persons who are involved in the filling procedure.

    Wake up, Its about time.

          • ignore that sadist fu$#…i got my sevis update to 9/30 on 16th and my receipt on 23rd. So bottomline, if you are on cap gap and your sevis is updated to 9/30, it means you are picked up in lottery

          • I would agree with SEVIS updated to 9/30, that if you got the date extended you are most probably picked up in the lottery.

        • Cap gap extension gets extended to June 1st for all Candidates whose OPT is expiring between April 1st to September 30th. It applies to all candidates irrespective of First OPT or extension. They say June 1st because that is when the data entry is almost over. If they get picked in the lottery then the cap gap extends to Sep 30th. if not, it reverts to previous expiry date.

Ofcourse I can stay in US transferring to H4 and ask my employer to file again (4th time) for me, but would they do it as I wont be employed to them anymore…?

    • Depends on who you work with. Very difficult if it is a big brand/reputed firm. Very easy if it is a desi consultancy. It would also depend on some other factos including has your team already filled your position with another hire while you are out of work on H4.

      • Makes sense, thanks! My OPT ends in 2020 Feb, so I can work until then and there would be a small window of 2 months after which H1Bs will be filed…anyway who knows. This is assuming my H1 hasn’t got picked this time and next time the fate might repeat. But its better to think about the worst thats what they say.

        • You will be out of status in Feb. so you will have to wait till October 1st in that case before you start working again. you will get Cap Gap ONLY IF you are on OPT/STEM and your case is filed and pending.

          • You are right, I am aware of that. I dont mind not working until October 1st but it’d be great if at least someone files my H1B although I am on H4.

  21. For all the people who have got the SEVP updates I have good news. So somehow I managed to get my DSO to print me a new I-20 and it clearly shows the H1B pending status and Receipt number. I got my SEVP update on 04/13/2018 and I just now got my I-20. So if you have the update on SEVP, I am 100% sure you have got picked up in the lottery. So far I don’t any update from the lawyer regarding the receipt. Also upon checking my receipt number, I can see the status of the case as received. Have been waiting for this for three years. Too close to packing my bags. At least one step done!

  22. Hello everyone,

My attorney filed for my change of status to H1B under the Masters Cap. I am an Advanced (AD) degree holder, working in the US on my OPT, which is due to expire on June 30. Neither my attorney nor have I (I work for a start-up) received an update on the application. My application is filed at the Vermont Service Center. I am concerned with the future of my career in the United States, as this process of the lottery is apparently out of my control. I have three questions for people who can speculate for me.

    1) How hopeful should I still be about expecting a SEVP update/ receipt for my H1b application?
    2) Is the Vermont Service Center sending out receipts, or is it only the CA one? Also, what about updates for Non-AD applicants?
    3) (This is a tough question to answer) By when would one recommend, that I plan to leave the US (the idea is to minimize costs of moving, flights, selling furniture, etc.), without knowing the status of my application?

    Sincerely

    • Tough situation.

      1) No one really knows, but once the “data entry has been completed” notice goes out (usually 1st week of May), SEVP should be updated.
      2) Both are, check immigration girl for updates. Non-AD receipts are few and far between at this point though, but that could change today/tmrw
      3) If you have no SEVP update or notice by 2nd week of May, I would think seriously about relocating – my opinion, i’m sure others will differ.

      Reply
    • 1. very possible. it is still early for receipt notice. so hang in there.
      2. Both service centers have started issuing notices.
      3. tough Q, but keep hopes till mid to end of may.

I tried calling Caldwell hall but didn’t get any update on my case. you can try your luck. they get to know receipt no if your case is selected.
      All the best! GoBigRed!!

    • Hey there.. this process sucks and my good wishes are with every deserving candidate going through the process in ethical fashion.

      To answer your question –
      1. SEVP updates are in process and frankly USCIS has been very proactive about updating status of those on OPT ending before 1st Oct 18, since they launched the portal this year. I think based on that chances are already slim and by end of the next week it will almost be certain for OPT cases which way they are going.

      2. Its both. It always is both.

      3. People while waiting for the result can extend their OPT until June 1st even if they havent heard anything on the lottery result. Unfortunately since your OPT is already until June 30th, you may not be able to get this benefit. Consider your biggest financial constraint (rent, lease term, or other contracts such as phone, tablets, internet, cable etc) for making the decision. You can always sell your stuff within 15 days or so and find a decently priced flight. You will also have around 60 days to leave the country after OPT expiration – so there is no rush to sell your stuff or buy flight tickets as of now.
So my advise – wait until mid may for sure and then start making plans for your next step.

  23. Some data about the progress of case processing:

This year, I submitted 25 petitions, out of which 5 has been picked. Assuming USCIS takes 15k buffer (10k for reg, 5k for AD), this means they should have processed ~30% of cases at this time.

There’s still hope and don’t give up yet!
