Got an offer from h1b sponsorer consultancy - how to find it is fake or not

Hi Saurabh,

I am an SAP ABAP technical devloper with 6 years and working with a big 5 consulting firm with good salary in India. I recently got this offer from one desi consultancy (1-50 employees). One of my friend is in this company for the last 5 years & told that he found no problem working there. but i still have my doubt about the Job security & my personal security as i am a lady. I could not find much info on the firm as it is a very small firm and in a lot of dilemma. I can not find a way to determine if it is for real or some rogue consultancy to cheat. How can i find that ??

- They would give me offer letter & file my petition but expense have to be borne by me.

- They would find me a project within 2-3 weeks of coming to US, till then basic accomodation & Food.

- there would be a bond of 2 years. & payment would be 70-30%. no payment during bench period.

Would really appreciate your prompt response.

Legally speaking, the company has to bear the costs of your visa ( even though most consultants do make you pay) and I believe signing a bond for 2 years is not advisable. You should never go unpaid during your H1 period.

What they are offering is no different from other consulting companies. Like ramanan mentioned, they are supposed to bear the filing cost and pay salary even on the bench.

Even though they say they can find a project in 2-3 weeks, it may always be the case. There are people who do not get projects for several months and may have to take up a project for which they are over-qualified.

Also, there is no bonded labor allowed in US. Most of the states deem it as illegal.

It’s good that your friend didn’t face any problems in that company, but it is still risky. You will have to evaluate whether to take that risk or not.

Can you please let me know the consultancy name please, at kalyankumarpmp@gmail.com

 • They would give me offer letter & file my petition but expense have to be borne by me. - The employer should bear all the costs.

 • They would find me a project within 2-3 weeks of coming to US, till then basic accomodation & Food. - This is risky as other users mentioned.

 • there would be a bond of 2 years. & payment would be 70-30%. no payment during bench period. - It is completely illegal to do so. Please do not sign any such bond.

Furthermore, try to lookup the compay on myvisajobs, glassdoor, linkedin, etc. it should give you a good idea about the company.
