Changing DS-160 after confirmed appointment?

Hello,

I have my B1/B2 visa appointment in a couple of weeks. I was not employed at the time of my application but I now have a job. Is it possible to edit my application now and not lose my appointment slot?

If so, how do I do it?

Thanks!

You can complete another DS form and carry both DS forms for interview. At the first window inside the consulate let them know about the changes and they should be able to swap the old DS# with the new one.

You can also call the consulate and confirm about it.

Thank you. Searching your solution online I find that it is possible to do that and also get a new appointment confirmation page printout using the new DS-160 #. Which website should I go to to do that? Thanks!

You have to complete another DS-160 form like you did for the first one. So you have to go to the same website.

I understand. But what I meant is, how/where do I associate this new DS-160 confirmation number to my current appointment so I can print out a new appointment confirmation with the new DS-160 number?

Do you want to schedule another appointment or go for this appointment only?

  1. If you want to go for another appointment, then cancel the current one and schedule a new one using the new DS form.
  2. If you want to use the same appointment, then complete the new DS form and go to interview on current date/time w/ both DS forms. Then inside at the counter show them the 2 forms and ask them if they can update the appointment w/ the new form.
  3. I recently read on a lawyer’s website that one is now allowed to change DS forms online for certain visa categories. You can see if B-1/2 is also covered under this and allows you to edit current DS form. If not, then go w/ (1) or (2)

@dutta What did you finally do in this situation? A response would really help.

Just wanted to update folks out there with the latest infomation, i did the same thing , took the visa interview confirmation with old ds 160 and i could not retrive it, so i called the helpdesk to update my information but they couldnt. I think its a bug in there system which doesnt let you update as well. The good news is that when you go for finger printing and photo they scan the ds 160 confirmation you carry and update it in your profile, you really need not carry any other ds 160( i couldnt even retrive the old one which was originally in the visa appointment) …Its a seamless process, the helpdesk doesnt do a good job of giving out the correct info. Do not worry carry the latest ds 160 to the finger printing and they will set you correctly the actual visa interview without you saying a word(all scans from there system), Even my online profile is correctly updated now. Hope this helps.

Hi Akki. Its a blessing to find this comment right now as i too have a submitted DS-160 but forgot to print out the confirmation page for my appointment. Although the appointment confirmation e-mail has the DS-160 confirmation number, i believe the confirmation page is still required at the interview, which for some reason i have been unable to access for the past 6 days due to that error.
I too called the call centre and they said that one can fill in a new DS-160 and carry this for the appointment. The only thing i’m confused about is, the appointment confirmation e-mail already has the old DS-160 confirmation number. Will they update it with the new DS-160 form i am about to fill out?

That’s right as you go for finger printing they will scan the ds 160 confirmation you give them (the new one in your case)and that’s it … it will be updated in the system …also will be updated in your online profile. . Do not worry … good luck

but will they not associate my appointment with the old DS-160 which i filled out but couldn’t get the confirmation page for?

Hi akkiboy99
Your comment was indeed helpful. Mine was a similar case. I wanted to make some last minute changes in DS 160 for B1/B2 visa and was not sure if i technically i can.
For B1/b2 visa and i also think for other catergories of visa even if u make changes at last moment after taking a confirm date the finger printing guys will scan your reference number mentioned on the updated confirmation page. They dont questions as to what changes were made. Once they scan the control number DS 160 gets updated in the system. They even did not ask for Old DS 160. Just provide them updated DS 160 thats it…Mine was recent february 2015 case.

Thanks

plz help… if u noe anything… recently filled a ds 160 form, where I mentioned that I am applying for some interview in US but by mistake I clicked on B1/B2 option… which in actual should be B1 only… will that make a difference in getting my visa(will that have an issue) or I need to update my form…secondly will I be charged extra .

Hi coolsonam

I am not really clear from your post what exactly is your query. I understand you have selected wrong visa category probably. U need not pay fees again that is sure and u can also make changes in the filled up form by retrieving the application from your log in. I did this in February. Don’t know the system now. You can make changes to DS 160 even after u have taken confirm appointment but will have to inform at embassy before the personal interview that changes are done. That’s it. They can also see that through system on there screen. They do not take objection to that.

Thanks.

How to inform embassy about the change Rohan? I am in a similar situation. I applied for B2. Now, my manager is saying since you are going to US for weeks, you can attend few conferences happening there for work. Now I want to change the visa category to B1/B2, but use same interview appointment. Is that possible? What should I do to make it successful?

Hi Rohan,
Thanks alot for your info…I have query ,do we need to take old DS 160 for visa interview. Please suggest me asap as my visa interview is on Thursday 8th oct.

Hi Nicky

There is no necessity to take the Old DS 160. They do not ask for it. The data base automatically gets updated in their data base so they have the updated DS 160 on screen. Neither do they ask for old DS 160 for comparison purpose. They might ask you if changes have been done in the DS 160 just to confirm that you yourself have made the changes and are aware about it from security point of view. Best luck for the appointment and get print on your passport.

Cheers

Hi

I have mistake in company name Instead of HCL USA Inc, i just mentioned HCL Inc in DS-160, Do i need to take another appointment?

Thanks,

But Can I fill new form after I have done Fingerprint Scanning ?
I was supposed to travel immediately for an event next week but got the VISA interview dates are not available and cannot be expedited. So I took the appointments. Actually, my finger print scanning (OFC) is done and my VISA interview date is 3 weeks later. So now i am planning to attend next event after six months. Since my current DS160 form has details regarding this event which would have been past by the time I appear for Interview, I was thinking of updating the information with new event and even the sponsor of my trip. This is for B1/B2 visa. Please help.
