Officer was "unable to make a decision" when renewing F-1 visa while on OPT

Hello,

The immigration officer at my school made sure I had everything I needed to renew my visa. My grandmother was sick so I returned and I had to renew my visa as well.

I went to the interview and the officer seemed confused about what I was doing there, what OPT was, and why I was trying to renew a visa. I had to tell her to open my I-20 so she could see my employment and OPT stuff. Then I was asked to give her my EAD card and the receipt of my STEM extension (I still have 2 and a half months on my initial OPT).

Then she spent ten minutes reading something on the computer. Told me she was unable to make a decision and that she needs to check the regulations. i saw she grabbed a yellow sheet but she didn’t give it to me. She only gave me a card with the email address of the consulate and she returned all my documents back to me, including the passport. I was told I would hear back in a couple of days.

It has been a couple of days, and my DS160 status says it is under “administrative processing”. Has anyone had this happen?

Did your F-1 stamp on the passport expire? Was that the reason you went to the embassy?

I got the F1 visa issued on OPT. I did a COS from h4-f1 and got it stamped successfully at HYD counsulate…
