Is there any Educational Qualifications to get H1B Visa?

Dear All,

I am not a graduate but i have 8 years experience in Programming. Based on that i got a Job in USA.
Is my experience enough to stamping the visa?

You must be a higher degree professional, a 4-year degree is the norm, a mix and match is doable but work experience is not generally preferred as a substitution; too many questions are asked. In recent years the officers have been strict about this unless you fill a very unusual skill area that cannot be met by other professionals. Your sponsor has to be very good at explaining why you must be granted an exemption from education criteria.

Best wishes

This USCIS document explains the process that employers in the US need to go through to sponsor an employee for a Green Card http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Resources/E2en.pdf. The detail shows that you need to be an exceptionally qualified or skilled person (I am paraphrasing – check out the document to see the official wording) to be sponsored by a US employer. Normally this means a higher degree or some special skill or training that makes you different from a US citizen – the employer needs to prove that they couldn’t find anyone in the US to do your particular job.
