Change of mother's name in Passport : living in US

I noticed that I have wrong mother’s name in passport. I get my birth certificate reissued with correct mother’s name. I am currently in US. Can anyone tell me the procedure to get mothers name corrected in passport. I checked BLS and indian consulate website as well. Below is the thing written on indian consulate website

"Birth Certificates issued by the relevant authorities in India would be acceptable only when these are attested by the General Administration Department of the State concerned and of Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. [http://www.mea.gov.in/legalization-of-documents.htm](http://www.mea.gov.in/legalization-of-documents.htm)"

Does that mean I need to get my birth certificate attested from MEA,delhi. Have any one faced this issue.

I need to get the mothers name corrected in my passport for following things:

1) To invite her in US so that my passport particulars should match with her particulars

2) For GC processing as there mother's name on birth certificate is not matching with my passport.

>> Update 1: Okay. So here is the update. Today I called BLS and they told me "everything is on website" for all the questions. I checked and figured out that I need to get a notarized copy of BC and affadavit to change mothers name. Can anyone provide the detailed procedure who has done this in recent past.

Name corrections are tedious. It is a good idea to get ‘one and the same person’ affidavit prepared for your mother which can be used wherever the name difference is questioned. Include all names that appear across all documents in this affidavit stating that they are referring to same person. Thus with just one document, all records become valid. Also, US Department of State does not have interest in a foreign passport and the names that are used in it. However, a document that establishes you as her son (live birth record) will be useful for her travel visa and for when you sponsor her green card.

All the best
