H1B approved. Can i transfer my H1B before OCT 1st

Question

My H1B approved for 2013 quota. I am planning to change to FT before going to India for stamping. Can i transfr my H1B even before it will become active on OCT 1st. Is there any risk in doing so. Also will it be a problem when i go for stamping.

Also what all the steps i need to take care of for smooth tranfer. Do i need any documents from my present employer.
