- New 800 Cap eligible H1B visa petitions were filed under regular Quota.
- New 300 cap eligible H1B petitions under Advanced degree cap.
December 3rd, 2010 USCIS official H1B cap count update:
| Regular H1B Cap H1B filings | 51,200 of total 65,000 |
| Advanced degree cap filing count | 18,700 of total 20,000 |
| Total H1B visa petitions received | 69,900 of total 85,000 |
H1B filings down with Thanksgiving break, Analysis of Economy
H1B filings this week slowed down significantly in comparison with last week, November 30th, H1B Cap Count update… The regular cap petitions were down by over 600 from 1,423 to 800 and the advanced degree cap filings were down 264 from 564 to 300. Overall, the petitions filed this week were down by around 900 petitions from almost 2000 to 1,100…it is around 45% drop in the filings. I guess the drop in filings can be attributed to the Thanksgiving break and the short work week last week. The pace is very likely to pick up next week…As mentioned last week, if you are on OPT and it is expiring within a year, you should file your H1B as soon as you can, to be counted towards advanced degree cap.
From unemployment standpoint, Labor department reported that job openings in October rose to 2.5% from 2.3% in September…these are old numbers, but they set the expectations for consumers and analysts as it is better than before month …On the other hand, the extension of Bush-era tax cuts and unemployment benefits deal currently in progress in congress is catching attention of economists…If it passes, then the GDP growth forecast will be up… What it means to H1B holders or in general job seeks is that, consumers are likely to spend more and corporations are most likely to hire more people, which is good for economy…some fear that this deal will impact the government deficit significantly and will impact corporations in future…we will have to see what happens….

Hi, I just want to ask when is the final release of those 65000 whose H1B are approved. I am filed last November 22, 2011 and I didn’t know if I actually made it to the 65000. Hence, I am eager to know if I can use my H1B VISA before January 30, 2012. Thank you for your kind consideration.
Most of the people have already been notified about making through the quota. If you haven’t heard anything yet, then get in touch w/ your lawyer/employer and ask them about it. If they also don’t have any updates, then they should call USCIS and get one.
