USCIS updated the latest H1B cap count numbers today. As of August 27th , 2010.  The updated cap numbers since last time are:

  • New 400 cap eligible H1B petitions for Advanced degree cap.

August 27th, 2010 USCIS official Total H1B cap count update :

Regular H1B Cap H1B filings 34,900    of total 65,000
Advanced degree cap filing count 13,000    of total 20,000
Total H1B visa petitions received 47,900 of total 85,000

Analysis – H1B filings back to Normal  Job Market

Well, if we look at the cap count updates this week, we are back to normal. In comparison with the H1B filings of last week, i.e. August 24th, 2010 H1B cap Count, the filings decreased by from 4,200 to 1,000 for regular quota, while the advanced cap numbers still hovering around 300 mark, with 400 filed this week.

As USCIS updated H1B Fee increase effective from Aug 14th , employers now know that there is no reason to rush…this is probably the obvious reason for H1B filings to go down this week to normal pace. From economy perspective, there is so much news everyday blowing the same horn….The consumer confidence and home prices edged up slightly. Last Friday the Fed chief was saying “the pace of recovery has slowed but it is reasonable and expected to pick up in 2011 and subsequent years”…this is highly anticipated and it sets a tone for recovery, which is slow recovery.  Also, the GDP rose only 1.6% in second quarter, which is much less than expected 2.4%. Overall, the outlook looks slow recovery…It means the H1B quota will last for long time as the hiring will be based on economic recovery.

Any thoughts on Economy recovery ?

Dear Kumar,

I made a spelling mistake in DS-160; slipped one of the alphabet in surname. At the time of document submission at VFS, they made a note as spelling error. Will this be a problem? Does anyone come across such situation?
